New phone, what to buy? (in Off-topic)

AdminShade April 26 2010 4:57 PM EDT

So my phone is still good, it's a Nokia 6300 silver edition but I might want to 'upgrade' to one which is a bit more smartphone.

My only real demands are that I can call with it, send text messages, make some pictures.

Video is optional but would be very nice, as well as internet.
Touch pad isn't required but I'm curious.

Few friends of mine have an iPod and I've tried it a few times, I did like the design of the new 'square' iPod.

My friend really... really... likes his HTC pro 2 Touch (I think that's what it is called) I tinkered with it briefly and it seems to be a solid choice. When you hold the phone it just feels solid, the touch screen was very very accurate (new obviously, dunno how long phones stay like that in general so *shrug*) Had everything you could want from the looks of things.

=)

Depends on the carrier. Unless you're going to get an unlocked phone that works on all carriers. Are you willing to switch carriers?

If you want "cool", then iPhone.

If you want better phone than an iPhone then stick with Nokia and get an N97. 5MPix camera, lots of storage and very good all round.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't phones being exclusive to carriers an American thing?

AdminLamuness April 26 2010 6:05 PM EDT

Ah, I forgot about that. I don't understand how phones work overseas. Are phones not bound by carriers?

iPhone did for a little while however even they've opened up now.

The droid is called the milestone outside the US.
It is indeed a fantastic phone... I love mine.
However I still suggest the iPhone most of the time when folks ask me.
If a physical keyboard isn't something you need there are a number of really nice android phones coming out.

The new iPhone looks fairly interesting...

If I were you, I'd wait for Iphone 4g (which should be announced by June 2010 ? or so )

or get Nexus one or the Sony Ericsson new mobile with android 2.1

if you want a simpler, cheaper one, probably just get Nokia E72.

they aren't real popular, but i still love my palm pre! ; )

Cube April 26 2010 10:20 PM EDT

Speaking of which, Gizmodo handled that incredibly unethically..

That and to second dudemus, I do love my Palm Pre. I really like the interface as well the contacts list etcetera. I expect the Palm Pre Plus would have solved the slowdown problems when you have too many apps open. That and the touchstone is awesome. Not to mention, I downloaded an unofficial app to use the Pre as a mobile hotspot, very cool. You get used to the small keyboard. I like the physical keyboard a lot better than the virtual ones, and it maintains screen area and a touch display unlike the old style blackberries. It's app store isn't extensive, but all I really need is the browser, camera, messaging, and phone. Speaking of which their instant messaging system is amazing.

Okay, I've rambled too much - I'd try it out if you get a chance though.

i enjoy my motorola cliq with moto blur ... if you grab one of those i would suggest the black one because the white one feels like cheap plastic ... im just saying. It has everything your looking for plus a little more and it has the android market to find what you may want extra .
