Lets me play cb!
now i need to learn how to use a touchpad!
On a whim I decided to upgrade from a 'Sim only' 30 day thingy to a proper contract, and had no idea what to get, so left it in the hands of my provider.
For no extra cost, I landed a Samsung Galaxy Apollo I5801, that I have no idea how to use! lol!
But I think it uses the andriod OS.
My contract gives me 100 free minutes, unlimited texts and something like 500gb/mb (??) of internet useage a month.
The internet stuff is just icing as I only really use my phone for texting and emergency calls. ;)

I'm a week away from my next upgrade - HTC Desire.
Ah the joys of a free handset with your monthly contract.
I've seen a funny youtube clip about the iPhone versus HTC. But it's very un-pg. ;)
I've got no idea how to turn the internet off (or rather just exit the browser..) now. :/
God, when I was a kid, my friends and I said we'd never be like our parents, not getting this new fangled technologu like Walkmans or VCRs. We're growing up with all this!
Now days, I've no idea how to use most stuff kids do.
I fail. :(
Specs I'm seeing have it as a damn nice phone. I've got a whole list of stuff you should be playing with!
Seems like it doesn't have the full compliment of normal android buttons... but the back button will take you back to the desktop if you hit it enough.
I think I can get some sat nav maps, but apart form that, I've no idea about apps or what I should be doing with this! lol!
I've closed the CB window, and hit back a few times to get back to the 'idle' page. My Internet usage should only be used up if I actively do things like change pages or load stuff, shouldn't it?
correct... and 500 megs is enough to fight every fight for a month and still not get close to using it up...

I'm close to get the European HTC desire, the HTC google nexus one ownage over iPhoneys :p

:D
Trains o and form work, at the soft play with Emma, mooching atthe in laws.
No place is now safe from me spending BA! :D
(Claire isn't really happy! lol!)
And now i've realised i can connect to my wireless network at home!
The first thing I'd suggest GL is adding the control widget so you can turn off wifi and gps when you're not using them. It'll help a lot with battery life.
If Samsung haven't altered the interface too much you should be able to long press on an open section of the desktop and select widget. Then select power control.
I have the samsung galaxy i7500. there are many apps out there, most of them are for playing around. a couple i would suggest aknotepad, call meter ng, lookout and if you bank with tdcanadatrust get td.
the notepad allows you to password protect that app. lookout is antivirus/data back up tool. and call meter meters your useage broken down into calls, sms, and data. not sure how accurate it is as I have only had my phone for a few days. all of these are free. and if yours is the same setup, you have 3 buttons on the right, push the middle button to get back to start screen
just looked your model up and it is way different. but the apps should still work
Thanka all! on the train to work!
Anyone know if you can change the Text Message view away from threaded?

Got that to work by accident! lol.
I was looking at "Add to homepage" and chose Andriod Widgets - Power control.
But I already have it on one of the home page screens! Now, I can't seem to remove it form my frontpage. /sigh
I feel like such a noob...
Toch and hold the widget for some time, the phone should vibrate after some time and the menu icon changes to a recycle bin. Move it there. ;) This way you also can move widgets around on the home pages.
Awesome! Worked like a charm!

"Ah the joys of a free handset with your monthly contract. "
It's not free. You pay for it in the line rental lol. Nothing's free
I was already paying line rental, and I had to purchase my old phone on top. :(
So this one was free. ;)
(Well I upped my rental from ᆪ15 to ᆪ20, but I wanted the internet stuff! :P)
I've scoured the phones settings, but there doesn't seem to be any way to change the 'threaded' text messages view. :(
Just for reference, one fight is about 5KB. 576 BA per day is then about 3 MB. So yeah, you'll be way under.

As GL says, my next phone, which retails at around ᆪ400 comes free with the contract. You could look at it, that you're paying for the phone that way, but have you looked at BT's home phone charges lately, and that's without some nifty machine coming with it...

Awesome! Now that's just icing on the cake!
I have to say, I love the layout of CB on a mobile phone. ;)
Sorry, more phone help.
I added a G Mail address to my Goggle Account, to use the 'marketplace' to have a look at some apps.
I installed Lookout, Your Orange (to see how much of my plan I'm using) and installed and uninstalled a couple of SMS apps to see if any of them would change the Threaded View (they didn't. :( ).
I left Lookout running, and overnight my phone used about 50% of it's battery.
This morning, checking Battery Useage (I originally thought it would be leaving lookout running that would have cuased this, but it wasn't scanning), and Andriod Services is using 99% of my Battery. :/
I'm sure it never used to.
Also, under Applications, in addition to Lookout and Your Orange, I'm also showing Market (which won't let me Force Kill it. Which seems to be the only way I can find to turn running Apps off).
Any ideas?
Uninstall Lookout, it's not really needed and I've found a number of threads pointing towards AV as the reason "android system" drains a battery.
Lookout's gone. ;)
And I think the problem was that adding a gmail account added itself to my phone as an account, and was automatically auto-synced. I turned that off. ;)
Still hunting for a way to get rid of threaded sms, if anyone knows of one?
email sync won't drain a battery like that...
Crud. Android services are still using 99% battery.
are you sure it says services?
*whistle*
That should have been Android System...
5h 57m 34s since unplugged;
Android System 96%
Cell standby 3%
Phone Idle 2%
CPU usage for Android System is 9m 48s
CPU foreground is 53s
That all look normal? :/
Pull the battery and bring it back up, it may just be leftovers from Lookout
The old 'turn it off, turn it back on again'. ;) Seocnd only to hitting it with a hammer to fixing problems! :D
53 seconds since unplugged and Andriod System is 97% with Display at 2%. :/
Just for gigles, Included packages;
Service mode
Sync Feeds
Mobile Tracker
com.samsung.InputEventApp
Mobile Tracker (?? Twice)
BluetoothTest
RilErrorNotifier
Settings Storage
Preconfig
Account and Sync Settings
RilFactoryApp
Network Location
Checkin Service
Android System
Factory Test
Settings
VPN Services
Perso
com.sec.android.app.Lcdtest
BrcmBluetoothServices
WLanTest
Phew, seems like a load of them! :P
Ok I think I've got this figured out. Use the phone for a while and see if that percentage goes down.
8 BA on it later, and some WiFi use;
46m 28s since unplugged
Android System 95%
Cell standby 3%
Phone Idle 2%
The hope is that the percentage of battery will go down as time goes on... if that doesn't work I'd uninstall the apps you installed and see if that fixes.
It's going down, slowly.
I think the real test will be tonight. I'm not runing the AV, so if it doesn't use a half a battery sleeping, it should be all good!
Thanks for the help mate, I don't like being so out of my depth! lol!
