Ideas on CB and how to make the economy better (in General)

Catdog November 27 2010 2:08 PM EST

First of all please know that in no way am i bashing CB in anyway i really enjoy this game and i enjoy the community here a great deal. With that stated since i've been playing i have seen people talk about the issues they see in the game and i have some suggestions that i think are maybe not perfect but hopefully good enough to get the ball rolling on some fleshed out ideas.

Auctioneer oh how i hate you... Seriously i hate this thing and here is why. This game has a random drop system but it is extremely infrequent judging by the threads i've read on it. The Auctioneer spawns items for sale at 1 dollar and lets the people determine the market which is awesome right? No and i'll give you an example why: imagine if there was 1 gas station in the world and they let people decide how much the gas was worth? after awhile there would be no gas station at all because people would pay lower than production cost.
Eventually people will drive the market down to pathetic levels crushing the economic balance. After that long winded explanation here is my suggestion. All items spawn to players based on BA trigger be it forging or fighting. Since CB must record data similar to this anyway it should not be to hard to implement. Here is an example CB says a MH is supposed to spawn at exactly 3:07 EST the next person to fire off a BA will get the MH.

The blacksmith oh how i hate you... This one is so much easier to explain. we have a forge where players can upgrade items at the cost of BA that is brilliant and yet very few use it because it is not profitable and to many players prefer the instant upgrade of the Blacksmith. Here is my suggestion. Complete removal of the blacksmith i know what your thinking Sienna you have lost your ever loving mind right? Hear me out for a second. If there were no blacksmith players need forgers and will pay the going rate to have they're item upgraded. Doing this will also indirectly have a huge impact on rentals as an example i can't fight without my ELB so if i have a forger on it i need a replacement. If this ie done it will remove the feeling of needing USD to start an NCB as you can just forge until you feel like your purse is fat enough.

This is the first in a series of posts i'll be making next will be how to handle the NUB and NCB

AdminTal Destra November 27 2010 3:03 PM EST

cant completely remove blacksmith... elven items and NSC are non forgeable

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] November 27 2010 3:06 PM EST

What if you are running an NCB and you grow quickly, how can you upgrade your weapon if you are using it and you need to upgrade it quickly. Also, how can you use forgers if you are in a tourney. I'll get to the auctioneer one later.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 27 2010 3:09 PM EST

Really if you are running a competitive ncb you will have already prepared your items. Your money should really being going towards BA during EXP times.

I'm sure it'd be simple enough to make these items forgeable again.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 3:12 PM EST

titan's ncb point would still be valid in regards to nubs.

Catdog November 27 2010 3:21 PM EST

tourny chars can keep the BS you brought up a good point. i'll think on that and improve

Lord Bob November 27 2010 3:25 PM EST

On the issue of items being undervalued, and economic balance getting flushed right down the toilet, I agree. Auction item spawns should be severely throttled, maybe even shut down completely for a while.

On removing the blacksmith, a whole world of no. I understand forging needs a boost, but forcing fighters to part with their weapon for several days while someone forges it - and at inflated costs - is a bad, bad idea. And the alternative, wasting BA by using the forge yourself, sounds like one of those "hey, let's have Superman fly through rings" kind of ideas.

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] November 27 2010 3:25 PM EST

The vast minority of this game have the funding to run a competitive NCB. I started my NCB with base items and have relied heavily on the blacksmith.

Why do we have the Tournament store, and why does it sell everything?

On the Forging Why not just have a Forging Char on every account that is separate? Think about it if you needed to forge that badly and did have the money for a forger and the BS were too expensive or not there any more this would make total sense. Just a thought.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 27 2010 3:59 PM EST

I beg to differ. You'd be really surprised how far you can get with small items, and a smaller investment into BA, with the right strategy.

I was reset in May or there about? And I am already up to 810 million net worth, of which 500 million is mine, No USD's used at all. Sure my current character will most likely never be a top 10, but I am farming some of the top names in the game, and each week I am in the top 10 for weekly clan points. I would consider that as "competitive".

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 4:11 PM EST

of which 500 million is mine

i don't have any reason to doubt what you say, but how the hell did you do that? i have been playing solid since day one and only have a little over 400m nw.

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 27 2010 4:17 PM EST

He's a truly active Player dudemus. Not that you and a lot of others are not but he is like myself in the fact that he keeps moving to better and better deals. No Complacency, just movement get in and out of debt. While in Debt looks for another deal and when finished with current debt moves to the next deal with a good credit history this shouldn't be a problem at all to do for any player. I am willing to bet you that when I become active again I will be able to do the same :-)

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] November 27 2010 4:21 PM EST

A smart NCB tank plays with a base weapon when they begin, and which they up slowly on the x, for which it is a necessity to have the BS.

I agree wholeheartedly with the fact that the auctions need to be slowed down immensely. I also believe that the BM should be done away with, at least for now. But, what can I say, I'm optimistic.

Unappreciated Misnomer November 27 2010 4:27 PM EST

done remove the BS, if you do next thing we now we will paying 110% to get something forged. and do not remove the BM, rather alter it to have the votes grant wishes for whats to spawn in auctions. then the whole auction system is the BM.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 4:32 PM EST

i guess we have different definitions of active zen. i regularly get more clan points than you so am fighting more ba. perhaps you meant that he is a better trader, i can accept that as he must be to have that gotten 500m net worth in less than a year.

i was actually wondering though if maybe he got some help getting back on his feet or something to that effect though or some other generosity that maybe he wasn't mentioning as i just really do not see how anyone could get 500m in a few months worth of ba, even with ncb ba.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] November 27 2010 4:36 PM EST

800M NW - 300M NW tat = 510M NW = ~300M actual CBD. With right trades and appropriate playing/spending it's obtainable in a year. I'm also sure he had help getting back on his feet, even the tiniest amount of help helps in the beginning. But, I try to help every new player I can find, so I think the playing ground is fair :).

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] November 27 2010 4:39 PM EST

Maybe html will help :)

The vast minority of this game have the funding to run a competitive NCB. I started my NCB with base items and have relied heavily on the blacksmith.

The 10 or so people that have done this I would consider the minority. Or are you disputing that point?

The BS is a very good part of this game, since it allows some one to slowly increase the NW of their gear. We would have to get rid of ENC if we got rid of the BS (which would indirectly make a NCB pretty hard)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 4:45 PM EST

300m nw in a few months is still a major feat. look at nwo and the lega, they are in similar shape as i. i am sure some of it would be because with ncb bonuses you do move into higher reward zones faster than us who have been playing the whole time, but you also get less ba so until you are done with the one year ncb that wouldn't help that much.

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] November 27 2010 4:48 PM EST

Back to the TS, the only way to improve the economy is to reduce supply or increase demand, which both act to raise the price of goods.

The easiest way to fix the CB economy is to increase the demand by increasing the player base. Reducing the supply would only support the negative trend we have now (people leaving which reduces demand) and then supply would have to be reduced further.

Another problem is that the supply is already high from items that already exist, so again, the best route would be to increase demand and the CB economy will adjust accordingly.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 27 2010 4:56 PM EST

The easiest way to fix the CB economy is to increase the demand by increasing the player base.

You beat me to it.

Although part of me really hopes that the economy is not saturated to the point where it would take an unrealistic amount of players to fix it.

Another option would be to close fs/wtb and all player to player transfers and have everything go through the auctions. And then to watch over that, have Mr. Chairman bid higher amounts for items.

I hope CB never has to resort to this.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 5:15 PM EST

in kef's transfers i see at least one 20m usd purchase and a 30m transfer from zen and those are just the largest transactions?

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 27 2010 5:22 PM EST

in kef's transfers i see at least one 20m usd purchase and a 30m transfer from zen and those are just the largest transactions?

You referring to this one?

Zenai (Z's Item Holder) 75.53.132.105 Kefeck (The Color Morale) $3000000 -- For the future Nov 23

This transfer was for cash to pay the clan join fees of Windwalker, Tal_Destra, and Xenogard. After that the rest of the cash is to go towards something that will benefit the clan.

I"m not sure if Zenai ever sent me 30 million. But I know that slayer sent me 30 million about a week ago for tattoo leveling.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 5:35 PM EST

that is right, slayer sent the 30, zen sent you 3m a few weeks ago as well. was most of this money then made from zen's tat leveling schemes?

i am just trying to understand how you got so much money and talk about it as if anyone could do it when obviously there are very few that have. is the tat you are wearing yours?

running an ncb for six months gets you nowhere near the 500m nw even without buying ba or everyone would be doing it! ; )

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 27 2010 5:51 PM EST

that is right, slayer sent the 30, zen sent you 3m a few weeks ago as well. was most of this money then made from zen's tat leveling schemes?

I wish I was large enough to level his tattoos. Zenai sent that cash solely for the clan nothing else. And the 30 million Slayer sent was for me to level his tattoo at a rate of 50%.

is the tat you are wearing yours?

No, the tattoo I am wearing is Sebidach's. I've been leveling his tattoo also. If your ever looking to make a quick buck NCB and level tat's throughout. I have made somewhere between 60-80 million in the last few months, just through selling and leveling tattoo's( And I'm expecting quite a bit more within the next couple months, this number will be somewhere between 80-120 million).

Also I've had multiple people forge for me, and I've used the age old principle buy for less sell for more. So forge a ton of networth on a bow and then turn around and sell it for 5-10% more net worth. It all adds up :)

Last but not least I've also been successful in the tournaments. I've made about 50 million in tournaments since my reset. It might even be a little bit more.

Also these are my tattoo's.

They might be inflating my net worth a little bit, but I have been competitive regardless and I am within reach for hopefully a top run within the year hopefully :), we'll see.

Pfeilinferno lvl 8,394,267 152,215,533
A Fire Familiar lvl 7,334,045 132,991,585

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 6:04 PM EST

well you are definitely one of the most successful reformed multis that i remember! ; )

all of those things can help and the 30m levelling (plus others) as well as the tournament wins of 50m definitely explain quite a bit to me.

are you able to buy any ba? i myself have encourage others to raise money by tat runs with the ncb system. i am not sure anyone has ever done it though so it is nice to see that it can work.

Ankou November 27 2010 6:04 PM EST

Wasn't there supposed to be some type of 'refer a friend' competition sometime in December? This could potentially be very good for the economy, if it works.

On a side note: When Vu-Vu rage quit, he sent lots of stuff to kefeck.

[22:08] <Vu-vu-zela> and giving kefeck most of my good stuff

Don't know how much stuff that was, but Vu-Vu was about 5 months in at the time.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 6:06 PM EST

titan is planning something, ankou.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] November 27 2010 6:10 PM EST

are you able to buy any ba?

Nope all my cash goes to debts.

On a side note: When Vu-Vu rage quit, he sent lots of stuff to kefeck.

He did send me quite a bit including the 8.3 million tattoo listed above.

But to combat that I would say when I was reset I was in debt 80 million. I'd say they cancel each other out ;p.

Currently still 29 million owed.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 27 2010 6:19 PM EST

i think then that we have to say you would need multiple runs to lead up to a final ncb run where you spend all money then on ba, especially at bonus xp times to really make a competitive run which is really nothing new.
