What's wrong with the Server? (in General)
Load average for past 1/5/15 minutes is 1.11/1.10/1.09
Been like that for at least 14 hours.
I don't know but it is so bad I can't even get through my entire fight list xD.
Yeah, I'm about to quit the tournament. I can't look for new opponents when it takes 20 seconds to load the inspect pages...
Why would you quit? Everyone else has to deal with it too..
B/c I have stuff to do. And yeah, I don't think it's unfair, it's just a hassle.

That explains why I keep getting the warning telling me not to fight more than once at a time.

Aaaaarggghhh!!!
Load average for past 1/5/15 minutes is 0.24/0.32/0.69
All hail Fex!
Actually, according to Fex,
[17:28] <Verifex> I actually didn't fix it.. believe it or not
[17:28] <Verifex> Jon did :)
The great one has returned!

Equivalent server load // CPU usage or something to that extent.
Above 1.00 is bad.

lol, I know that it's a "load average" and that higher is worse, but what exactly is that? This "1" isn't just an arbitrary 100% mark.

So is the 1 a rated 100% maximum load without apparent lag?
Explanation of how load average is calculated:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_(computing)
It's still extremely laggy for me.
Me too, it has improved though. I think it might take a flush to help free up memory or something, I'm not sure. But, yeah, I agree it still is laggy.
I have a feeling Jon never really went anywhere, I wouldn"t be surprised if he checks the forums regularly without logging into his cb account.

Is it me or is the server slow again?
BluBBen
December 28 2010 11:52 AM EST
It's really really slow. But only like every second minute :-s
Connection timeout is pretty much all I get now...
It's working fine for me right now..
its slow. makes it not worth login in to burn ba
Slow is a mild way of putting it ;)
talking with Jon about it now
It seems to come and go. If you can try to figure out the interval at which it occurs, maybe that'll point to a scheduled task that is running afoul.
It might have to do with inspecting opponents. At the least when that happens a whole lot is when it seems to be worse.
That could be. Does the current tournament encourage a lot of that? We could be hitting the db hard on an inspect.
FYI, there is a lockout for people hitting that too often for just this reason. It's set to 400 per cache flush.
Not the battle log though that might be it too the inspect opponent page. And putting a cap on that would not be a good idea.

Foiled again. I was just about to suggest we run a quick little DDoS by slamming the inspect page. ::evil grin::
Ah, right, that was the recent battles page...
i was also locked out from updating the stats while i was inspecting opponents.
that's normal... it only allows it every so often
interval check, the server is slowing down some as of this post.
Yes indeed, good catch dude.

Increadibly slow now. (third try to post this without getting connection timeout)
timing out for me after a couple fights
interval update, 30 minutes at least...still sluggish.
interval update, still having issues.

i can't do anything server timeouts on everything 2nd attempt at posting
interval over: i think the current interval is over, things seem normal mostly as of this post.
that makes it about two hours between 2:30 & 4:30 pm server time today.
reload if it still isn't working for you... hoping it's the change NS just reverted

Yes, tried this.
Has been running fine for me until today. I experienced the same problems in the same reported time frame. After the "all better" I got through 40ish BA but I am now back to "time out". 4:50 p.m. server time.

Not better for me. I clicked fight and it took forever - for...ev...er - to load, so I switched to another page. I came back several minutes later to a failed botcheck.

A fix has now been made. For this fix to be seen, NS will have to update the site.
In the meantime a temporary solution has been put in place. If it is still feeling laggy, please reload the sidebar, or if that does not work, clean your browser cache and restart your browser.

You know, if a fight doesn't load in a few seconds, you're best bet is to click on forums and then on fight again. The latter command might actually get through. At least that works for me.
So is anyone gonna enlighten us as to what it possibly is to be causing this issue?

Google for mutex and deadlock, with some race condition on the side.
I reverted a javascript change that exposed the race condition, but as I said to novice, browsers tend to hold on very tightly to their cached javascript. I have no idea why, but it's insanely hard to get a browser to download an updated version of a JS file. This is why sometimes we just change the filename entirely (you'll notice that the JS file for the sidebar is called sidebar.8.js for this reason.)
This is also why I use InPrivate / Incognito browser modes.
