What's wrong with the Server? (in General)

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2010 4:54 PM EST

Load average for past 1/5/15 minutes is 1.11/1.10/1.09

Been like that for at least 14 hours.

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] December 27 2010 4:55 PM EST

I don't know but it is so bad I can't even get through my entire fight list xD.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2010 4:59 PM EST

Yeah, I'm about to quit the tournament. I can't look for new opponents when it takes 20 seconds to load the inspect pages...

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] December 27 2010 5:05 PM EST

Why would you quit? Everyone else has to deal with it too..

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2010 5:06 PM EST

B/c I have stuff to do. And yeah, I don't think it's unfair, it's just a hassle.

Newlin [SeeD] December 27 2010 5:08 PM EST

That explains why I keep getting the warning telling me not to fight more than once at a time.

Demigod December 27 2010 5:26 PM EST

Aaaaarggghhh!!!

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2010 5:28 PM EST

Load average for past 1/5/15 minutes is 0.24/0.32/0.69

All hail Fex!

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2010 5:29 PM EST

Actually, according to Fex,
[17:28] <Verifex> I actually didn't fix it.. believe it or not
[17:28] <Verifex> Jon did :)

The great one has returned!

Demigod December 27 2010 6:38 PM EST

0.24/0.32/0.69

What exactly do these numbers mean?

BluBBen December 27 2010 6:41 PM EST

"Load average for past 1/5/15 minutes"

Sickone December 27 2010 6:41 PM EST

Equivalent server load // CPU usage or something to that extent.
Above 1.00 is bad.

Demigod December 27 2010 6:43 PM EST

lol, I know that it's a "load average" and that higher is worse, but what exactly is that? This "1" isn't just an arbitrary 100% mark.

DoS December 27 2010 6:51 PM EST

1 second load time per page?

Lochnivar December 27 2010 7:04 PM EST

All hail Fex!

Titan stars in 'Waiting to Fex-Hail' the stirring portrayal on one man's relationship with his online gaming admin.

Demigod December 27 2010 7:04 PM EST

So is the 1 a rated 100% maximum load without apparent lag?

moskel [187ELiTE] December 27 2010 7:06 PM EST

Explanation of how load average is calculated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_(computing)

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 27 2010 7:59 PM EST

It's still extremely laggy for me.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2010 8:03 PM EST

Me too, it has improved though. I think it might take a flush to help free up memory or something, I'm not sure. But, yeah, I agree it still is laggy.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] December 27 2010 8:55 PM EST

I have a feeling Jon never really went anywhere, I wouldn"t be surprised if he checks the forums regularly without logging into his cb account.

AdminShade December 28 2010 11:35 AM EST

Is it me or is the server slow again?

BluBBen December 28 2010 11:52 AM EST

It's really really slow. But only like every second minute :-s

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] December 28 2010 1:28 PM EST

Slow here also!

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] December 28 2010 2:02 PM EST

Connection timeout is pretty much all I get now...

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] December 28 2010 3:36 PM EST

It's working fine for me right now..

Unappreciated Misnomer December 28 2010 9:58 PM EST

its slow. makes it not worth login in to burn ba

Eliteofdelete [Battle Royale] December 28 2010 9:59 PM EST

Slow is a mild way of putting it ;)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 28 2010 10:00 PM EST

talking with Jon about it now

AdminNightStrike December 29 2010 12:24 AM EST

It seems to come and go. If you can try to figure out the interval at which it occurs, maybe that'll point to a scheduled task that is running afoul.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] December 29 2010 12:25 AM EST

It might have to do with inspecting opponents. At the least when that happens a whole lot is when it seems to be worse.

AdminNightStrike December 29 2010 12:28 AM EST

That could be. Does the current tournament encourage a lot of that? We could be hitting the db hard on an inspect.

AdminNightStrike December 29 2010 12:29 AM EST

FYI, there is a lockout for people hitting that too often for just this reason. It's set to 400 per cache flush.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] December 29 2010 12:31 AM EST

Not the battle log though that might be it too the inspect opponent page. And putting a cap on that would not be a good idea.

Demigod December 29 2010 12:31 AM EST

there is a lockout for people hitting that too often for just this reason
Foiled again. I was just about to suggest we run a quick little DDoS by slamming the inspect page. ::evil grin::

AdminNightStrike December 29 2010 12:33 AM EST

Ah, right, that was the recent battles page...

Unappreciated Misnomer December 29 2010 6:16 AM EST

i was also locked out from updating the stats while i was inspecting opponents.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 29 2010 9:16 AM EST

that's normal... it only allows it every so often

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 2:30 PM EST

interval check, the server is slowing down some as of this post.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 29 2010 2:32 PM EST

Yes indeed, good catch dude.

AdminShade December 29 2010 2:32 PM EST

I agree

BluBBen December 29 2010 2:56 PM EST

Increadibly slow now. (third try to post this without getting connection timeout)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 29 2010 3:01 PM EST

timing out for me after a couple fights

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 3:08 PM EST

interval update, 30 minutes at least...still sluggish.

Unappreciated Misnomer December 29 2010 3:24 PM EST

are we under attack?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 3:49 PM EST

interval update, still having issues.

Catdog December 29 2010 3:53 PM EST

i can't do anything server timeouts on everything 2nd attempt at posting

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 4:21 PM EST

interval over: i think the current interval is over, things seem normal mostly as of this post.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 4:21 PM EST

that makes it about two hours between 2:30 & 4:30 pm server time today.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 29 2010 4:27 PM EST

reload if it still isn't working for you... hoping it's the change NS just reverted

AdminShade December 29 2010 4:29 PM EST

is it over? it's still slow as frozen hell here...

Demigod December 29 2010 4:31 PM EST

I'm back to good.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 4:32 PM EST

it was winding down, still some issues but mostly done i think.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 29 2010 4:34 PM EST

close your browser entirely

AdminShade December 29 2010 4:35 PM EST

Seems to work

BluBBen December 29 2010 4:39 PM EST

Running fine for me now! :)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 29 2010 4:47 PM EST

i am still having intermittent issues after a restart.

AdminShade December 29 2010 4:50 PM EST

Seems to work
Yet again, it fails to run smoothly for me.

close your browser entirely
Yes, tried this.

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] December 29 2010 4:52 PM EST

Has been running fine for me until today. I experienced the same problems in the same reported time frame. After the "all better" I got through 40ish BA but I am now back to "time out". 4:50 p.m. server time.

Lord Bob December 29 2010 5:07 PM EST

Not better for me. I clicked fight and it took forever - for...ev...er - to load, so I switched to another page. I came back several minutes later to a failed botcheck.

AdminLamuness December 29 2010 5:10 PM EST

A fix has now been made. For this fix to be seen, NS will have to update the site.

In the meantime a temporary solution has been put in place. If it is still feeling laggy, please reload the sidebar, or if that does not work, clean your browser cache and restart your browser.

Demigod December 29 2010 5:31 PM EST

I clicked fight and it took forever - for...ev...er - to load

You know, if a fight doesn't load in a few seconds, you're best bet is to click on forums and then on fight again. The latter command might actually get through. At least that works for me.

DrAcO5676 [The Knighthood III] December 29 2010 6:17 PM EST

So is anyone gonna enlighten us as to what it possibly is to be causing this issue?

AdminG Beee December 29 2010 6:31 PM EST

My internal server is running slow. Hic *
When is the next flush? I need help getting this brandy out of my system...

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 29 2010 6:35 PM EST

I've found the best solution to get it out of your system is to drink more!

Lord Bob December 29 2010 6:36 PM EST

I can't. I'm at work. *sad face*

AdminNightStrike December 29 2010 8:15 PM EST

Google for mutex and deadlock, with some race condition on the side.

I reverted a javascript change that exposed the race condition, but as I said to novice, browsers tend to hold on very tightly to their cached javascript. I have no idea why, but it's insanely hard to get a browser to download an updated version of a JS file. This is why sometimes we just change the filename entirely (you'll notice that the JS file for the sidebar is called sidebar.8.js for this reason.)

This is also why I use InPrivate / Incognito browser modes.
