Taking bets on the 2012 election (in Contests)

QBRanger August 29 2011 3:47 PM EDT

Obama vs the Republican nominee.

1:1 odds.

Any amount.

Post in this thread, of course I take the R, you get Obama.

Any post will be binding. Any posts that does not want a bet, but rather is a commentary will frowned upon and I will ask the admins to fine such posts.

AdminTal Destra August 29 2011 3:51 PM EDT

Not going to bet on Obama... but if you want to, i'll take it

Reyth August 29 2011 4:26 PM EDT

I will offer 1M for (R) to win.

QBRanger August 29 2011 4:31 PM EDT

Ok,

Let us get this straight.

I am taking the Republican. The only replies that should be in this thread are people who want to put money down on Obama to win in '12.

Again, any other replies will be considered spamming this thread, and I will ask the admins to promptly deal with such replies.

Phoenix [The Forgehood] August 29 2011 4:52 PM EDT

Why do we have to take Obama? Certainly we don't necessarily have to want Obama to win? I.e. Independent, etc.

QBRanger August 29 2011 4:53 PM EDT

This is my thread. Only post if you want Obama and are willing to bet.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] August 29 2011 5:37 PM EDT

i think he made it pretty clear folks, he is betting on the republican candidate to beat our current president. if you want to join his contest play by his rules, if not then start your own contest please.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] August 29 2011 6:02 PM EDT

Let's get this started..

1 million on obama.

Duke August 29 2011 6:29 PM EDT

Ill bet 1M too

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] August 29 2011 6:31 PM EDT

I think a nice friendly wager of 1m is perfect. Count me in.

AdminNightStrike August 29 2011 7:30 PM EDT

When will you stop taking wagers, and/or change the odds?

AdminNightStrike August 29 2011 7:33 PM EDT

I'm asking because I was under the impression that the voting would take place about 15 months from now.. which seems like a really long time in the future to run a contest like this.

QBOddBird August 29 2011 7:39 PM EDT

I would like to know as well, so that I can know how long I have to raise as much money as possible.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] August 29 2011 7:40 PM EDT

Looking at all the people involved... I think I'll bet 1 mil for the non-republican.

QBRanger August 29 2011 7:46 PM EDT

How about I let this run for 1 month. I will take all bets, no other odds than 1:1.

QBRanger August 29 2011 7:47 PM EDT

So far:

Kefeck 1M
Nat 1M
Xeno 1M
Duke 1M

QBRanger August 30 2011 12:01 PM EDT

Come on people, put your money where your typing is.

CB is almost entirely liberal and I cannot believe we have so many people afraid of a small wager.

BTW: Do not let this scare you off:

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] August 30 2011 12:05 PM EDT

Yeah I am on the side of disapproval but I'll still vote for him over the other guys.

Duke August 30 2011 12:50 PM EDT

Dont worry if the tea party chick win the nomination for the GOP, ill increase my bet to 10M .

QBRanger August 30 2011 12:59 PM EDT

You have to make up your mind before 1 month from the threads origin.

Decide 1 or 10M, either way Obama will lose in 12.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] August 30 2011 1:04 PM EDT

You should give odds on bet based on the primary winner. That'd be pretty cool.

Like:

1:10 if Bachmann
1:2 if Perry
1:1 if Romney
2:1 if Paul

Something like that, it'd be exciting that way.

QBRanger August 30 2011 1:22 PM EDT

So far the only people willing to be on Obama are:

Kefeck 1M
Nat 1M
Xeno 1M
Duke 1M

The odds are 1:1 and will stay that way.

I am still waiting for all the heavy libs like LB to put his money where his typing is.

Lord Bob August 30 2011 1:37 PM EDT

I already gave you my very valid reason for not taking that bet. If you STILL haven't learned to read my posts yet, that's your fault.

QBRanger August 30 2011 1:49 PM EDT

IIRC, I remember you scared to be 100M like I wanted but stated you would bet a smaller amount. I remember 1M you stated would be possible.

If you are afraid to back your man Obama, that is understandable given the fact he will lose badly in 12 and you do not want to throw money away.

Is the thread I remember. Something about you not being here next November.

Lord Bob August 30 2011 1:54 PM EDT

And your poll is decieving.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/149114/Obama-Close-Race-Against-Romney-Perry-Bachmann-Paul.aspx

Only Romney beats Obama now among registered voters. But not among national adults. He's not down anywhere near as much as you think.

And I don't want to hear any "wah, this is my thread, you can't post that" nonsense. If you wanted to keep this thread to people taking the bet, you should not have called me out, and posted a poll.

Lord Bob August 30 2011 1:54 PM EDT

Yes.

QBRanger August 30 2011 4:12 PM EDT

And I don't want to hear any "wah, this is my thread, you can't post that" nonsense. If you wanted to keep this thread to people taking the bet, you should not have called me out, and posted a poll.

You certainly are 100% accurate.

No reason to post that nonsense.

But back to my bet.

I think most people realize, baring someone else like Christie or Ryan entering the race, it is a 2 man show between RomNey and Perry.

There are 5 debates in quick succession after Labor Day. If Perry comes out of these debates in good fashion, it is his nomination. If not, then it is RomNey.

Then it will be interesting to see who Perry picks for his VP. Some say Christie, others like Ryan or Rubio. Others Martinez (governor of NM).

Compared to Obama and especially Joe (1 child is fine with me) Biden, it will likely be a rout if the economy does not do a quick turnabout.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] August 30 2011 4:19 PM EDT

Do you think Obama will pick Biden as his running mate again? I mean I know it's not usually courteous do go with someone else, but this time I don't think anyone would blame him ...

I do not remember in my lifetime a VP being replaced. However, Hilary would be the only possible way Obama can try to regain his mojo. She may accept if asked only to try to win the presidency herself in 2016.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] August 30 2011 4:34 PM EDT

Not sure exactly how old you are, but Nixon had Agnew and then Ford. I just think getting rid of the idiot might be good for his image.

QBRanger August 30 2011 4:39 PM EDT

Not sure exactly how old you are, but Nixon had Agnew and then Ford.

I am old enough to remember that Agnew resigned the VP position after he was guilty of tax evasion. Ford then, as minority leader, took the VP slot and to this day is the only president not to have been elected VP or P to serve the top slot.

I think it is a 2 edged sword for Obama. To get rid of Biden forces him to admit his poor choice. To keep him would be to admit this idiot is a good choice. No real way to win.

Now to the OP, anyone else wish to take the bet?

AdminTal Destra August 30 2011 8:29 PM EDT

The car in front of me had a bumper sticker on it.
It read: "Pray for Obama. Psalm 109:8."
When I got home I opened my bible and laughed.
Psalm 109:8 - "Let his days be few and brief; And let others step forward to
replace him."
...At last - I can voice a Biblical prayer for our president!

AdminNightStrike September 1 2011 7:26 PM EDT

Ok, I have to give mad props to that bumper sticker... subtle humor is great.

AdminNightStrike November 6 2012 10:02 PM EST

Ping...

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] November 6 2012 10:57 PM EST

Was that a head-fake "Try now", like the PA push?

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] November 6 2012 11:22 PM EST

Thanks, NS!
