shakes, fidgets and bloodmoons...oh my! (in Off-topic)
we still have some room available in s&f, if you ever wanted to try or have returned.
also, playa games has now opened, as of yesterday, their new game bloodmoon. the games seems pretty similar to s&f, but darker. your classes are vampire, werewolf or hunter.
if others are interested in trying it:
s1.bloodmoon.com
we can get a jabberwocky going there as well if enough are interested.
I signed up, I'll give it a try for a few days. I went with vampire but now I'm feeling like I wish I went hunter.. I'm not really sure the exact differences between the characters.
nor am i, i went werewolf and had thought seriously about hunter as well!
it does seem that in the new game all of the stats help the character instead of only certain primary ones.
Yeah from what I can tell there is a ranged attack, a melee attack, dodge rate, hp, and influence (for guilds apparently) and they act the same with every character. So it ends up being how you'd like to build it more then anything which is kind of cool. I'm not a fan of the art style at all, but I'll deal with it, they could've done a much better job with it though tbh.
Anyway get Jabberywocky up!
I'm curious to whether or not influence is only for guild leaders or if it is useful for all guild members.
not sure, but i do need 25 charisma to start the pack. i will get that once i get off of gravedigger duty if i make enough and start the pack.
Yeah I see the same Xeno, I started a Wolf myself when you get the Pack up let me know dudemus
i am a wolf as well, not an emo modern wolf but more of the american werewolf in london wolf!
I'm hoping the guild system isn't separated by the races, because it seems for vamps they are called clans, wolfs packs, and hunters orders. Which has me thinking the factions are separate and if we all choose different races we wont be able to join each other. I haven't really been able to tell if this is the case or not yet.
i am hoping the same thing. if it is then that would suck like vamps!
If it is we're all going to have to decide if we want to be the same race and what race to be. Its still early on so we can delete and restart accounts if need be. Though hopefully we can get the 15 blood stones for confirming your email again >_> that would be nice seeing as I've already done that.
I'm level 5 already but I seem to be the odd man out so far by taking vamp, so if this ends up being the case I don't have any real issue with changing.

if we have to remake to all be the same, i am thinking a group of hunters might be best, opinions?
Yep, guilds are absolutely separated by class.. looks like I'm restarting since everyone seems to have went WW. Unless everyone wants to choose something else that is.
I'm down with hunters or vamps personally. There seems to be a lot of WW packs and a solid amount of vamps to, so maybe going hunters would be for the best? Plus we'd all have to start over putting us on even ground to start with.
2 votes for hunters, anyone else have an opinion?

Yeah we have to all be the same class unfortunately, we decided to go with hunters. I explained how to easily reset your account above. I'm currently sending out invites so either post your name here or PM me real quick and I'll send it right out
Well, don't know how long I play this, but you can always kick me. ;)
Hunter called Ascalon.
ok, figured it out. button at the bottom on options.

if it is like s&f, the first members in will likely have to donate all of their gold to buy more member slots so save gold until we know for sure everyone!
Sending out invites as I'm getting peoples names, Phrede whats your name over there?
OK remade as a hunter named ResistanZ. Invite? :D
we aren't sure what the guild limit is nor how to grow it if possible, so if you really want in it would be a good idea to create a hunter and post here quickly!

ffrankly, every mission from me suddenly goes into 21 hours left.. my guild chat shows just part of the chat.. is it me or the game? ._.
OK, as the chat there currently sucks, I'll post my thoughts here. ;)
Willpower and Dexterity seem the most important stats to me.
Willpower
Seems to power your races 'special' attack, which (at least for Hunters, probably the same for all others) is an attack that goes first and can deal a large amount of damage.
Only one of these goes off, so if you opponent has more Willpower than you, you will be unlikely to get your off but suffer theirs instead.
I've killed Quest mobs in a single hit with this, before they can do anything in return.
Dexterity
Is the to-hit mechanic. When you attack, if you have more Dex, you're more likely to hit. When you're attacked, if you have more dex, you're less likely to be hit.
So, get more. ;) You'll hit and do damage, and you won't be hit in return.
The others.
Strength only seems to increase the damage you land. With low dex, you won't hit anyway. Constitution increases your 'hit points'. If you can't be hit, and your opponent can land their 'special' who cares how much HP you have. ;)
Influence lowers vendor prices, and is your daily dump to your guild. /meh.
I was lucky enough to have a speed potion drop in the lab for me. 5 Bloodstones and some gold for 50% quest time reduction for 7 days. Win.
Always hit p a smaller opponent than you in the Arena every 15 minutes, it's an easy way to gain extra Endurance.
thanks for the synopsis, i am not even upgrading stats yet, throwing all gold to guild for the treasure and xp updates for now until i start losing quest fights.
The text form the Arena button is missing. Be sure to mouse over it to see how much time you have left before fighting, as you can (as I did) use a Bloodstone to attack before the timer had run out.
:(
Dude, I've put 10 into each stat, s that was cheap as chips! ;)
Apart form that, I've been prioritising Dex/Wil gear from quests. ;)
Level 10, just faced a level 11 Rat. i've got 66 Wil, he had 60 Wil. My 'Purity' went of, for 6 damage. ;)
yeah,i will likely throw some gold to the cheaper level upgrades before the day is over. 3% bonus on gold earned for the guild now though! ; )

anyone else? even if you tried s&f and didn't like it, this game is different enough in many ways so that it may appeal to you.
i attacked another faction, we only have an hour to prep but i chose a small guild so it would be cheap just to learn so prep if you get on bloodmoon please!
we won our fight and are now like rank 5 or so in factions! ;)
We're going to have to figure out a schedule or something for doing guild fights over there since the window is only 1 hour to prep. I don't know why they didn't go the S&F route for this game.
i am hoping that was a holdover from beta where they were trying to test things quickly and they mean to change it.
from what i could tell though it starts us at 50% power and then adds a bit for each person prepping. i guess the other guilds are at the same disadvantage though.
Yeah I was assuming most of this stuff would change as the game progressed forwards. Wasn't yesterday the first day the game was even opened up anyway? So yeah I'm expecting lots of changes and tweaks in the near future.
i think it opened late friday. i saw it first thing yesterday morning and i believe the post said it had opened the night before.

We're going to have to figure out a schedule or something for doing guild fights over there since the window is only 1 hour to prep.
Okay, guys. Brainstorm on a time to initiate attacks, and let's use CB server time to keep it organized if at all possible. Since the window of opportunity is so small and most players seem to be from the U.S., how about evenings in the States? If we run it at 10pm EST, that gives those on the west coast a decent chance as well (and those in the UK are just screwed).
I'm all down for picking an hour and sticking with it. We also need more people donating as well so we can start to pack a punch sooner, if only for a little while. I've been donating as much as I can but I started losing quests so I had to focus on my char a little bit.
10pm is fine with me, input from everyone else would be great. I hope the implement a guild mailing system soon.

Not if you're awake at 3am. :) I expect the devs will get this issue straightened out fairly quickly, but we still have to get as many prepped per day in the meantime.
We could run 2 attacks, one around 10pm and another around 4-5am for those in different time zones. At least until the attack window gets larger, which I expect it might as the game gets more populated. Just shooting around ideas.

how do you leave a guild there?
i would assume you select your own name and then click the boot button below.
if we don't start getting more voluntary donations, we will need to set up some donation requirement. ; (

i was thinking that it was just easier the way i wrote it to figure in your head. let's say level 37. that is 37,000/2 which is 18,500.

I'll start donating more, I've just been donating what I had left at the end of the night.
yeah, that happened in s&f as well and there were some hard feelings because of it. that is one reason i am trying to head it off before that happens here.
maybe we can get a formula hammered out and something set soon...you will likely be ahead at that point at least! ; )
thanks for your generosity btw, i wish it were as easy as relying on that for everyone!
:) I'm finding all Q's easy atm. IIRC, I've only lost a single Q so far (not the boss ones, which are pot luck until you fight the first time to see their level/stats), so it's better for me to donate, to increase my Gold/XP rewards.
It's a shame others don't share the same mentality. :(
Can you give me an explanation of what kind of game bloodmoon is? And maybe why you like it, or what you think about it?
It's simple. There's no real thought to it. I'll probably get bored soon, but the good thing it has going for it is you can start a Quest off then go do whatever else your's doing on your PC while the time counts down.
But if you star getting to the point you're only playing it, to burn off your 'BA', then it get quite boring.
So tab it and let it run in the background, but don't focus on it. ;)
So, it's pretty similar to S&F you just play different types of chars?
Basically. I never really played S&F. This has a more 'adult' themed graphics to S&F, and instead of a Rock-Paper-Scissor class system, all three 'races' are mechanically identical.
They just force the type of Guild you can join. The races stick together.
Mechanically, it tries to be diverse with 5 stats. But one is /meh, and two are vastly more important than the other two.
6.5K Gold so far this session, not half way through yet.
Not sure if I want to donate it.
there are some other differences as well. it has more of a rolling endurance (thirst) pool that regens throughout the day. it seems that bloodstones (mushrooms) seem to be easier to come by without buying. instead of mounts you have speed potions. the guilds are smaller (we are capped already) which should make them easier to keep full and likely more competitive.
you get some free refreshes on the stores also, intstead of automatic once per day. some of these things i think will make it more casual friendly but at the same time reward those who can check in often more. i do think that there may be less difference between cash spenders and those who choose not to. the verdict is still out on these issues though.
i am donating on my formula above, i was ahead so i am bumping my char mostly today. ; )
GL, although you may not be losing quests while donating that does not mean it holds true for everyone. Possibly you're just trained more intelligently. Or maybe your item/store rewards have just been better. I waited until I started to get good items to donate and as soon as I donated 2500 I failed 2 quest. It could be purely luck or your part of bad luck on mine. Who knows?
For the record, I'm not saying people shouldn't be donating at all. Just that its not as clear as "well its working for me, must work for others too"
I've donated nearly everything I've made so far >_> I'm doing fine. The reason its beneficial to everyone is that the higher the guild bonuses get the more you make/the easier it is for you to grow. If everyone pitches in an equal amount to get us really moving we'll all be skyrocketing in no time.
it matters little actually. even if donating temporarily sets back individuals, there will be a break even point where the permanent gains from the guild bonuses will offset the cost to the individual. everything after that point, for as long as we play, will be bonus growth.
in short, some short-term sacrifice will create long-term rewards just as in s&f where our guild bonuses increase gold and xp by 138% for all members, even those who start today. ; )
i think our guild is full btw, if someone else wants to start a sister guild, hunters or otherwise, it might be a good idea in case others are interested.
Also, is in game mail working? Because you might reach more people by sending out a mass message to the Order in game asking for donations and explaining how they'd break even. Everyone might not be reading this thread or paying attention to Order chat (or using a ridiculous method to scroll up).
there is no way, i have found, to send mass messages. i did add it to the suggestion thread though.
Individually message everyone then! :P
ok, we are going to do a mandatory guild donation at level*500. it has been added to our guild description on there as well.

Go to Bloodmoon's Hall of Fame and click Factions. We're #5, but it lists dudemus as our leader. This game has far more bugs than CB. :p
in lieu of an /act command, would anyone volunteer to start a google spreadsheet, shared with the officers, that would need to be updated daily with people's levels?
i think since we are limited to only 25 members, we are going to need to be weeding out people who aren't playing daily.
we could start a more leisurely sister guild if someone wants to take that on as well!
i am sure others will have input on this and i could be wrong, but here is what i think the most efficient, for growth, use of bloodstones is if you aren't buying them.
primarily, make sure you always have a speed potion. this doubles your growth.
if you can get ahead enough on those and still have bs left over, then adrenaline potions or the xp potions are about a wash. i kinda leave that up to how many bs i have after keeping myself in the speed potions.
i am not buying any gear that costs bs. the drops come pretty regularly on dungeons and the stores often have items for no bs cost and just gold.
remember that the +1 stat potions are permanent. i look at how much one stat costs in the character window to determine if those potions are a good deal, as the more you use the costs increase.
It appears you can obtain almost every potion other than adrenaline for no bloodstone cost as long as you're lucky enough for them to drop that way. So, as long as you get one of each, hopefully you're lucky enough for them to keep popping up for free afterwards to stack past 7 days.
I've got 3 adrenaline pots so far that only cost gold and not BS's. Seems like anything that costs BSs you can also get for gold if you are lucky enough.
what all have people seen as quest rewards? i have seen adrenaline and the +1 stat boosts but not speed, xp, life or the all stat boost.
Well if you can get one of the stat boosts I'd say its safe to assume you can get the others as well. Q got his speed potion from a quest, so also again since you can get the speed potion as a quest reward one would naturally assume you can get any of the potions as a possible reward.
Obviously this is a lot of assuming, and we all know what assuming does.. >_>
Lets call it an educated guess.
I've only gotten bloodstones and items as quest rewards. But the Lab has been pretty friendly to me. I feel like if you invest in a small amount of bloodstones but are active enough to freely update the shops regularly you can maintain all %+ pots for a long long time as you'll find free ones likely before you need to spend more bloodstones.
i tend to agree and think that this game is trying to give an alternative to just buying time. the alternative does take more time on the game though.
well, a small (cheap to fight) guild happened to jump ahead of us in the rankings so i went ahead and grabbed them for a fight before someone else did! preppeth please!

to be clear, at this point we are just wanting to look for inactive players. we would definitely appreciate everyone using all of their endurance and maximizing their growth but this isn't really to check for that. it will also likely be replaced by some in game method once the developers fix all the bugs and start adding stuff.

i will let the author of this take credit if he likes:
"In relation to bloodmoon. I feel like maybe I'm just stupid and it was pretty clear. But I'm just now noticing that each quest sends you to a location and you can check the world map to see what level you are on at said location which can tell you how difficult the quest should be. And also, you can focus on quest at certain locations to target specific gear improvements in the shop. This just me being late?"
i started noticing this just right before i got the cm above. basically each castle mission takes you to one of the world map cities. when you finish a certain number of missions in each city you move to the next level. i suspect that the level determines the difficulty of the mob as well as the reward levels. certain items drop in certain cities as well.
you can mouse-over the cities in the world map to see what level you are on in each one as well as what the items are for that city. i am wondering if you watch your missions and if you lose one, it is likely in a city you just broke into a new level with.
anyone else figured out anything more or that contradicts the above?
i think it is only the sanctuary missions that progress the world map counters?
Yeah. I got that info from the German forum. They seem pretty certain their is correlation between where your quests take place and what level that city is on the world map. I think it was 3 quests in an area = a level up.
They had not confirmed if the level of said city determined difficulty of the quest though.
My highest World Map level is 26, yet I face enemies in the 30's.
So not too sure on that.

I am coming to the conclusion that DEX-based builds are NOT the way to go. They are too inconsistent, and the opponent hits over 50% of the time even when my DEX doubles theirs.
GL, I would say pay more attention to the stats and difficulty of the fights. I've found my fights in Yucatan to be super easy and often 1 shots and it's under level 20. The rest of the cities are all around level 30 and take more effort.
DEX builds are very inconsistent. I once missed someone with 100 less DEX 3 times, they only missed me once. Unfortunately, I also think Hunters get a DX advantage. Vampires a WP advantage. And werewolves I believe STR.
QBOddBird
September 24 2011 10:52 AM EDT
I believe you are right, Josh.
Vampire totally would have been the way to go. :p
Everything has it's place. Enough WP/Str/Dex and you even out. Build around what you are looking for and supplement with weapon and items. I have a listing for the World Targets I have hit already:
Mission| Location| Name | Lvl |Str |Dex |Will |Con |Char |HP
1
2 Bukharest| | 10| 52 |40 |66 |69 |38 |980
3 Paris | | 15| 79 |91 |81 |105 |75 |2131
4 New York | | 20| 85 |104 |99 |188 |84 |4966
5 London | | 25| 169 |137 |173 |182 |117 |5946
6 Zurich | | 30| 202 |169 |210 |214 |150 |8324
7 Yukatan | | 35| 257 |234 |265 |279 |185 |12586
8 Yukatan |Lunatic | 40| 325 |316 |303 |348 |220 |17866
9 Yukatan |Sister Alia | 45| 333 |425 |411 |458 |220 |26366
10 New York|Strangler |50 |525 |510 |364 |575 |218 |36688
As I move up and fight i will be sure to update this chart if anyone can make it look better it would be infinitely appreciated!
I also think Hunters get a DX advantage. Vampires a WP advantage. And werewolves I believe STR.
This is true, and you can tell by the stats you get when you level up. Vamps get an extra WP stat per level up, Wolves STR, and Hunters Dex. (I remember getting extra WP upon leveling while I was playing a vamp, then I noticed I got extra dex when we all switched.)
Pure dex builds are certainly not the way to go, but don't discount it entirely, while it may be random it does help. Honestly I'd focus on Con slightly over Dex, but that's just me. If you are going with a high dex build then supplement it with a good portion of str/con as you will be melee combat at that point so you're idea is either to survive longer or kill the person faster.
If I remember correctly I kept reading on the german forums that as a general rule of thumb your con should be at least your level * 10 for hunters. But don't quote me on that.

Copy/pasted from google translate from German forum. I believe the numbers match-up with what Zen has but different names.
Cleaned up a bit :-)

If I remember correctly I kept reading on the german forums that as a general rule of thumb your con should be at least your level * 10 for hunters. But don't quote me on that.
This looks like good advice, and I am adjusting my build accordingly. I'm definitely missing CON - gonna substitute WILL in place of STR and see how that goes, though.
Also, quoted for the fun of quoting "don't quote me on that."

could someone please post the outcome of any wars we have here for the europeans who go to bed at a normal time :)
Hmmm. So we're never really going to out Willpower a Vampire?
That sucks. Willpower just keeps pointing towards being the best stat currently.
^ You can, they just have an easier time with it. I'm still focusing almost completely on WP and Con and its been doing me good so far. YMMV.
we aren't really having wars now for two reasons. they cost about 1k per opponent in the other guild. this means that even to fight a weak guild of 7 members it would cost us 7000g. at this point that money is much more useful being invested in bonuses.
the fights are supposed to work like s&f, starting with the lowest level guild members and working their way up. right now the order is screwy and they always start with me. with the two fights we have done, it has been me wiping out all members of the other guilds.
all we really get for our troubles is some inf so to reiterate, we won't be fighting for a while. we are not getting attacked as it costs 25,000 for anyone to attack us and other are investing too.

do you understand what the number ones mean in the guild list? if not they are open slots that can be filled by random people trying to join through the interface made for joining factions.
they can be deleted if you do not want any strangers and you can also create an open slot with a higher level requirement by clicking the invite button and just typing in the level you want the slot to be.
whether all of this is functional, i am not sure. i have no proof of it either way.

what happened with bloodshot - he donated shedloads (around 10x what he needed and now I see he has been demoted or whatever and no donations
he is the brother of xenogard. he donated i think everything on that character as he got on to help us out. i think he donated so much he likely gimped it but for whatever reason he decided to make a new character today.

oh ok :)
thanks for the reminder to bump him back up promotion wise!
i updated the donation formula to 1000g per level. it won't matter to most of us as we are above that.
it will likely change again over time. thanks for your support!
For the record, there is no way I can afford to not put 50k into stats and donate instead. I'm already failing 1 of every 3 or 4 quests now that my pots wore off and I can't afford to buy bloodstones.
1000*Level is too much for me; maybe it has to do with lower levels...
I have donated 90% of my money for 2 days, and have only donated 30k. My current level is 30. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I'm leveling up quickly, but I could see it as being hard to maintain.
^ Just something I noticed when I've been losing quests, it seems to be quests that give the most experience tend to be the hardest. Maybe try doing quests that give more money for a bit and see how that works.
Yeah I started to do the shortest quest possible which has helped some. If that seems to be working I will be able to donate.
Shorter quests is helping. Or I just had a run of bad luck before. Also, I was a fool and thought I needed to donate 50k more when really I only need 25k more. Silly me. Much more manageable.
All caught up.
it does get easier as you get higher. as long as people are making progress towards it, everything will be fine. we are nearing on the 20 percent mark for gold bonus. at 120% gold being earned from quests and work shifts, 1/6th of your income will be because of the guild bonus.
i think somewhere between level 30 and 40 you hit the breakeven point where you can donate about 1/5th of one work shift and be caught up. the rest of the bonus is then yours to keep on everything else made that day. i do think we have already tipped to where we have gotten more in bonuses than most of us have paid in, except for the biggest donors.
the biggest guild in the game right now is already above 20 on both upgrades and will out pace us if we do not at least try to stay fairly well caught up to them. i am not trying to get ahead of them, but i also don't want to fall too far behind them either.
i am not sure how clear that was, i shouldn't attempt such things so early in the morning!
basically the guild bonuses will have a snowball effect on our growth. pretty soon we will have enough in bonuses so that we can keep growing them and still be growing faster than most others in the game as well.
just to be clear, the 1000 times level formula is not per day!
when you are level 24 you should have 24k total donations. when you are level 50, your total donations should be 50k. we get this total from the mouseover on characters in the order page on the right.
; )
started a cheap order fight to get us up a bit in the rankings and to see if they fixed the guild battle order yet. please prep!

Dex is so broken and worthless. Just sayin', there is no way I should have won a fight against one of these super-statted guys.
I agree you shouldn't have won, but only because of the amount of CON he has along with the DEX, not DEX alone. You are ignoring the fact that you have 3x the STR he has, your weapon is always better than theirs, and I don't believe they have any armor. So in theory you could be doing upwards of 4 times the damage per hit.
Thing is, the mob has 2353 stat points to OBs 1750 (0r about 34% more stats).
If that difference was (split) in anything other than DEX, OB would have been creamed.
DEX just isn't worth it. :(
Comparing stat points of a mob and an actual player is pointless. Not to mention the mob poorly distributed it's points. As I already stated, they have almost no armor to negate damage while OB negates 50%. Mob weapons are bad as well and do far less damage with equal STR. If OB is hitting 6k and the mob is hitting for 1.5k (based on low STR, bad weapon, and OB's armor) then the mob could have dodged 3-4 times and still lost to OB. DEX is worth it, when used appropriately. Having 900 DX and no STR is pointless. Had the mob had say 700 DEX and 360 STR it most certainly would have beaten OB.

hmm.. i had more dex than a enemy, she had more str. i still won cause of my level advantage >:D

Well, that's rather the point isn't it.
I'm sure the mob could have dropped to 200 Dex and still beaten OB solidly.
Having DX is anything but a downside. I've noticed that I significantly dodge more when I have a large DX advantage. However, it is very random, and is not as stable as say willpower. So, sometimes you beat huge opponents b/c of it, and sometimes you lose to smaller people. It's like using an exbow in CB.
The point is that it's still balanced and comes down to how people match up with each other.
Your whole argument is that DEX isn't worth dumping all your gold/gear into. Fine. I agree. Then again, I don't want a game where it would be. I don't want a game full of characters who only pump gold into their class's stat. How fun would that be? It would be rock, paper, scissors. Vamps are the only ones really doing it and they're beginning to focus less on willpower lately.
I'm in the top 30, and the majority of my arena battles come down to DEX.

hmm.. theres more funds now to spend, just donated 55K and 1 GOLD. which makes it that i donated 1 more gold than xeno :P
Also, I could have said that the mob could have lost 200 con, added 200 STR, and won. I just chose DEX because that's what we were talking about at the time.
Demi, there are 2-3 people who stay on my arena page or pop up that I can beat (granted one unequips). And about 2 others who if/when I fight usually come down to the wire, and that's usually them out dodging me.
i feel that the dex is starting to help more at my level now. my next world mission is against a level 65, 9 levels higher atm, and i can almost take the heifer when i get a few dodges from dex. i should be able to get her well before i am her level though.
the last boss was similar, i was able to progress earlier than ever before.
which makes it that i donated 1 more gold than xeno :P
just saw that, sweet! ; )
