100k for unpg in forums

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 1:54 PM EST

give me a break, were was my warning

WHAT A JOKE FORGET THIS, IM DONE.

QBRanger December 21 2011 3:36 PM EST

I am not an admin but I can easily say I have seen quite a few non PG posts edited by admins without fines.

Just like selective deletion of posts admins do not like, consistency is wonderful.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 3:37 PM EST

YES FINALLY!!!! Someone else sees it, and Elf is quitting because of it! rephrase, QUIT! because of it!

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 4:34 PM EST

Elf is quitting because of it

Since when, as of a few days ago she wasn't quitting. If you're talking about Fex closing her post, she was mad, but she's not quitting.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:37 PM EST

4 days since her last log in. and she didn't seem happy on msn. i had to beg her not to quit, and guess what she hasn't even been on msn since then either.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 4:38 PM EST

I'm a little baffled at the hubbub over a 100k fine, this is a 1/1/05 user who in the midst of a tirade used an unpg acronym and a word commonly regarded as offensive at a level comparable to racial slurs.

I've fined myself a mil for a slip in chat, I fail to see the great crime in backing up an Admin Edit with a token fine. Warnings are for new users, if you haven't learned in six years how things work I don't know what to say. Consistency in fines is something we are shooting for, consider this an opening salvo.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 4:38 PM EST

I talked to her that day, and she wasn't quitting. It is near the holidays you know.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 4:39 PM EST

Consistency in fines is something we are shooting for, consider this an opening salvo.

Yes.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:40 PM EST

ARE YOU KIDDING ME! SAYING BULL CRAP with the s word is nothing LIKE SAYING A RACIAL SLUR YOU ARE CRAZY!!!

maybe 100k is nothing to you but taking 100k before my payment day and setting me back is a big deal for me! I dont' have enough for my payment now.

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] December 21 2011 4:41 PM EST

Xenogard (Xeno's Temp) 96.235.148.10 A IS FOR (L3G0) $200000 4:41 PM EST

There now you have double.

Keep it PG mmmkay.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 4:42 PM EST

Please calm down. I'm sure if you asked the loaner to give you another day, he or she will allow it.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 4:42 PM EST

The R word was what I was talking about, and the fine was for the acronym since Jon was a fan of the R word himself.

I sent you 100k from my own money, simply because I know very way how much paying off loans sucks.

Calm the hell down.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 4:43 PM EST

*sigh*... Xeno *shakes head*

(kid swears in forums and makes 200k... sheesh</thread>)

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:48 PM EST

Take your money back. I don't want your hand outs. you obviously don't get it. you can hell, I can't say the "R" word, okay instead of the R would can I say that the exbow is mentally handicapped. GIVE ME A BREAK! If you think calling an item that is IN ANY WAY the same as using a racial slur we have more problem then that. its not a swear word and just because you feel it is I can't use it, But your hell as a interjection word is okay. making it a negative sense.

now I know someone is going to start an argument about my terms, or grammar so before you do, don't bother.

Gunny Pew Pew [Red Permanent Assurance] December 21 2011 4:48 PM EST

Quit it you are embarrassing yourself and don't make false assumptions of Ann to prove a point that is not there.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:48 PM EST

then you mock me with your head shake.. WOW and your an ADMIN!

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 4:50 PM EST

He wasn't mocking you.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:50 PM EST

what do you call it. either way its insulting.

Gohan [Ka-Tet of the Serene] December 21 2011 4:51 PM EST

Shaking his head at xeno? Thats what I would call it...

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 4:51 PM EST

He was shaking his head at Xeno first off...

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 4:51 PM EST

that was for Xeno... note how I said his name

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:53 PM EST

its the whole thing, that he shakes he head at xeno ABOUT ME, then says that stuff about the money. no it was not needed.

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] December 21 2011 4:54 PM EST

You made a boo-boo in the forums and I gave you loan money and I got a head shaking, and apparently a tongue lashing just for the offer.

O.o? Its money.. it grows on BA.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 4:58 PM EST

you both got your money back, as i said in the other thread, i don't care anymore, im done, just drop it. Im wrong always will be i get it.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 4:59 PM EST

I'm thinking of starting a thread where I pay the fine for everyone willing to break the stupid PG rule in it.

QBRanger December 21 2011 5:00 PM EST

Seriously?

(Admin Edit) is a curse word? Or is there another R word I do not know about?

According to Carlin it is not one of the 7 words you cannot say in TV. Which I f
See as the non PG words.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 5:00 PM EST

He didn't get fined for the r word.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:01 PM EST

NO Ranger your right that's the word Im in trouble for. WOW EH!

Gohan [Ka-Tet of the Serene] December 21 2011 5:02 PM EST

I understood it was for the (Admin Edit) comment personally.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 5:02 PM EST

No L3go as I've already told you in CM and now here in this thread, that is *Not* the word you got fined for.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:02 PM EST

I THOUGHT WE CAN"T PUT ***** AS WORDS ITS THE SAME SO WERE IS HIS FINE!

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 5:02 PM EST

I edited it because it's becoming more and more commonly associated with other really ugly words, he was fined the minimum amount for an unpg acronym and nothing on the second word.

Gohan [Ka-Tet of the Serene] December 21 2011 5:03 PM EST

I'll take my fine then, had no idea you couldn't do that.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 5:04 PM EST

Fined Gohan.

Gohan [Ka-Tet of the Serene] December 21 2011 5:04 PM EST

Gohan (Gyaxx) 50.83.156.160 TourneyPrizes (Mr. Burns) $100000 -- 100k fine 5:04 PM EST

=(

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 5:05 PM EST

Please, as I have asked many many times, calm down and quit yelling.

QBRanger December 21 2011 5:06 PM EST

So an admin took it by himself to fine someone for using a word that is not a curse but can be construed as un-PC?

A word that others including Jon have used in the past?

Just seeing if I have this thread correct.

That is utter garbage and yet another example of admin inconsistency/abuse.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 5:07 PM EST

No it was a swear word, pm'ing it to you now Ranger, as no one in this thread seems to hear me when I say that.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 5:07 PM EST

You're not reading what we're writing Ranger, he was fined for an UNPG acronym, I edited the second word and did not fine him for it.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 5:12 PM EST

Fined Gohan.
Stuff like this is why my interest in this community wanes by the day.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:12 PM EST

I don't see how the S word for excrement is considered a swear word, when using hell explicitly is not. If I say calm the hell down how is that different from calm the F down. your still using hell in bad way.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 5:13 PM EST

LB you should join chat right now, it bring some faith back :)

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 5:14 PM EST

The list of words we fine for has been in place for a long while, you've been here almost that long yourself.

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] December 21 2011 5:14 PM EST

I direct you to George Carlin's seven dirty words.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:14 PM EST

the way you use a word is just as important as the context you put it in.

QBRanger December 21 2011 5:15 PM EST

Then I misread some posts because it read to me that he was fined for using a R word.

If it was an acronym for or about a curse that is different.

However L3G0 has never done it in the past and quite often we see a warning.

Remember he came back to CB after a long time away from CB.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 5:17 PM EST

100k is a minimal fine for a long time user, I'll admit his time away from CB was not taken into account, but considering the diminutive amount (that word was worth more frankly) and resulting poonami from the resident peanut gallery I'm not particularly sorry.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:22 PM EST

thanks ranger but its pretty pointless by now. I've given up. They can have there hypocritical rules. Hell used in a negative context is just as bad as any other word. yet they use it. I don't care if its a place or not one of the 7 dirty words not allowed on TV.

when you use a word in a negative context, like calm the hell down. its just as bad as saying the s word... but if i were to tell you to go to hell I'd get in trouble, but why. GO THERE, VISIT, TAKE A VACATION, STAY A WHILE, why should i get in trouble, its no different. then saying calm the hell down.

QBRanger December 21 2011 5:29 PM EST

A
While in the past there has been a huge gap in the abilities and consistency of admins, I truly believe this set cares about CB.

However calling them out on consistencies is needed.

Even though the PG rules has been unevenly enforced, it is the rule and I hope the admins in the future fine ALL that break it. Not only those they do not like or know as in the past.

Personally, I have confidence this crew can. But close oversight by us normal players is always needed.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 5:30 PM EST

Lets try this again...

Did you or did you not use an unpg acronym?

Is the word contained in that acronym known to be among those that are fine worthy when posted in forums?

Are you a veteran user with a history long enough to know better?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 5:32 PM EST

Any word can be used in a 'negative connotation'. I could call someone a paperweight (innocuous in itself) as a insult.

Maybe I'm comparing them to a useless object that's just used to keep things still. Or thing they're dense and of only ornamental value.

Or I could be using paperweight in an innocent manner.

But.

There are some words that just don't, and can never, have an 'innocent' use.

These are the words we can't use here, and are moderated.

Bastard is a good example. It *can* be used as a vulgar curse. Or it can be used to describe a type of Sword (as it is in game), or even a person born out of wedlock.

I'm sure intent is also moderated. I could ask to buy a Bastard Sword on the forums, but if I called another CBer a Bastard (or a paperweight) as an insult, I'd expect to get fined for doing so.

I used to know a gamer many moons ago who went by the handle of Bastard Knight (probably inspired by the old and little known game Bastard! but I can't remember sadly), and have often thought of naming a CB character after him. ;)

Then again, we can also have PG fun. Just look to Carry On, or other double entendres for inspiration. Such as claiming you have the biggest BoNE or largest CoC.

>;)

Gohan [Ka-Tet of the Serene] December 21 2011 5:36 PM EST

+1 goes to GL.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:40 PM EST

oh so saying "calm the hell down" is all right even though your using it negatively.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 5:41 PM EST

yes, I think that has been established

negativity isn't what got you fined, using an acronym forbidden by the rules did

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 5:41 PM EST

Google 'Clam down dear'. From the TV car insurance add to David Cameron using it in the House of Commons.

;)

Seriously.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:48 PM EST

saying calm down dear is totally different then saying calm the hell down..

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 5:51 PM EST

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-13207256

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-13211577

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/apr/27/cameron-calm-down-dear-sexist-put-down

I imagine the Conservative PR machine will be going into overdrive over the next 24 hours or so as the outcry over David Cameron's hideously sexist and patronising instruction to Angela Eagle MP to "Calm down, dear!" during prime minister's questions this morning refuses to die down.

Perhaps he thought he was being trendy by quoting from an advert that, let's be frank, was already 20 years out of date when it first aired on our TV screens nine years ago. Or perhaps he genuinely thought it was a funny, inoffensive remark to make to a female MP. Whatever his excuse turns out to be though, any woman who watched this morning's exchange will be able to attest that "Calm down, dear" is neither humorous nor edgy; it is instead a classic sexist put-down, designed to shut women up and put them back "in their place".

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 5:55 PM EST

I've never heard of that show, or heard any reference to that ever. And hell if I would ever put someone down in that respect if they though of it that way. so basically how I see it now, it telling me to calm down in any respect is insulting. wow I feel so much better now. especially when I was told "calm the HELL down".

what a joke.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 5:58 PM EST

Sometimes I shout at Emma to 'reboot' her.

It shocks her into stopping whatever tantrum she's currently throwing.

On the other hand, shouting at her when she's just playing nicely would get me all sorts of looks though.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 6:13 PM EST

but if I called another CBer a Bastard (or a paperweight) as an insult, I'd expect to get fined for doing so.
But this is not how it works here. I have been called names, and had many insults hurled at me here. I think most of you know what I'm referring to. No fine was levied, nor even so much as an admin edit was applied to those posts.

But if I say "I'm having a [curse]ing good time here, and this game [curse]ing rules!" that is subject to a fine, despite the fact that no insult, no hostility, and indeed even no negativity was expressed whatsoever.

A link to a really funny George Carlin sketch is prohibited here, even if my intent is only to entertain you fine people. A slanderous hate speech from Ann Coulter? Fair game. And this is why I have advocated removing the PG rule in favor of punishing hostility and insults instead.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 6:14 PM EST

But this is not how it works here. I have been called names, and had many insults hurled at me here.

This is not what we're striving for btw.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 6:18 PM EST

This is not what we're striving for btw.
What do you mean here? You're not striving to punish insults and other bad behavior so you can police a collection of harmless words regardless of their context? Or you're not striving to let stuff like that go and will do better in the future?

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 6:19 PM EST

Lol, sorry didn't realize that could be seen in two different lights.

This is what I meant:

Or you're not striving to let stuff like that go and will do better in the future?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:19 PM EST

LB, that particular curse has no other definition than a vulgar one.

You could alwasy use 'Frag' from Battlestar Gallactica. Or my preference, Father Ted's 'Feck'. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:21 PM EST

Although I doubt the word bought to the publics attention through the show 'Porridge' would be acceptable here.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 6:25 PM EST

LB, that particular curse has no other definition than a vulgar one.
So? You're just making my point. Vulgarity is punished here. Attacks are not. It should be the opposite.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 21 2011 6:28 PM EST

one is fairly easy to police, the other not so much...
even name calling has a huge subjective side
if we had to deal with every time someone felt attacked... sheesh!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:29 PM EST

It should be both.

If someone can't debate my points, and tries instead to attack me, they shouldn't be allowed to post here any longer (or for a while at least).

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:32 PM EST

Well Nov, maybe we should have a method for people to report comments they feel have gone to far, and whether things like apologies would remedy the situation.

I totally agree that intent is far too subjective to divine, but that doesn't mean we should give up on it. ;)

You paperwieght! :P

(Illustrative purposes only! I am in no way comparing Nov to a useless ornament! And I apologise with my entire being for any offense that might have been caused!)

Lord Bob December 21 2011 6:34 PM EST

It should be both.
No, it shouldn't. There are uses for those banned words that have nothing to do with offending anybody. Why punish someone for trying to express something positive, or telling a joke?

one is fairly easy to police, the other not so much...
Ah, so just keep punishing the thing that isn't harmful. Got it.

Gunny Pew Pew [Red Permanent Assurance] December 21 2011 6:35 PM EST

I vote to keep the PG rule just to keep the trolling to an executive level.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:36 PM EST

There are uses for those banned words that have nothing to do with offending anybody.

LB, There are words that have no other meaning than vulgar ones.

Like the word from Porridge. (I'll CM you it. ;) )

By definition, you can't use those words for anything else. Otherwise, they're not those words any longer. ;)

Lord Bob December 21 2011 6:40 PM EST

LB, There are words that have no other meaning than vulgar ones.
Again, so what? Out of context, these words are not damaging at all. It is the way these words are used, and not the words themselves, that has the potential to be offensive. Punish the context if it is aggressive, not the word.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:42 PM EST

It is about the words themselves.

They have no other context than thier derogatory definition. You can't use them in any other way.

They're not like Bastard.

If you're using them, and trying to *not* be vulgar or degrogatory, you're using the wrong words. They don't mean anything else.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 21 2011 6:42 PM EST

http://www.carnageblender.com/poll/poll-results.tcl?poll_id=442

At that time over 50% of the people voted to keep the rule the same. I know we've changed since then. I wouldn't be against another poll, but I'm sure it's pretty similar.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 6:47 PM EST

that was my point earlier LB, why can i be told to "calm the hell down" hell is now being used in a derogatory context, thus as far as I'm concerned should be against the rules as well. not just IF I tell someone to go there. which is again using it in a derogatory way.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 6:51 PM EST

How is that derogatory?

Lord Bob December 21 2011 6:53 PM EST

It is about the words themselves.
Again, my point exactly.

Titan, see my responses on that very poll. My arguments are just as valid today.

----------

Get rid of it
We're all adults here. Ok, some of you may be late teens or young adults, but this is not a kiddie game. We don't need our language policed as if we were still in grade school. I'm a grown man and I don't need to be told to dumb down my language for those who think they're too sensitive to read it. It's censorship, pure and simple. If a few players go overboard with vulgarity, deal with them individually. But CB shouldn't be treated like the Disney forums.

----------

I've never seen Fex's RPG, but if it's as bad as you claim, it probably has to do more with immature players than a lack of censorship. I say punish the players who abuse the privilege of the forums, and let the rest of us decide how to use language responsibly.

----------

"Lord Bob I would love to understand how you say you have to "dumb down" your speak to keep it pg."

If I have to tip-toe around using certain words - not phrases, not attacks, not even ideas, just simple words - because some people are offended by a collection of letters that for whatever reason they have labeled as "bad," then yes, I see that as dumbing down my language.

"I can sort of see where you're coming from LB, but really, how much better would you express yourself with the removal of the PG rule?"

Glad you asked. I was just sent a hilarious video by my co-worker that I wanted to share with you all. I couldn't post it though, because it contains the dreaded f-bomb that for some inexplicable reason, you all decided you have a right not to read here.

"I don't see it as censorship,.."

You don't see being told what you can't say as censorship? I agree that we do need rules to prevent any inflammatory things on CB. For example, racist, sexist, insulting, etc. messages should be banned. But to pretend that profanity by itself, ignoring context, is offensive on it's own is ludicrous.

I think you all should watch that episode of Penn & Teller's show, whose title I cannot say because of this ridiculous PG rule, where they rename the show to Humbug.

----------

Plus a bunch of other posts I wrote in there that I'm not going to bother copying here.

Gunny Pew Pew [Red Permanent Assurance] December 21 2011 6:54 PM EST

Better to argue freedom of curse would bring in the players rather than right a wrong.
Your argument stalled Bob. =/ Dirty words are set in stone while insults are not. Heed my crude words for I am troll and must feed each lunar cycle.
btw Nat recently named the two passengers in my carriage after orcish cartoon villains.
Merry christmas ya gits.

Sickone December 21 2011 6:57 PM EST

So what exactly is the "R" word supposed to be ? I don't know any "R" curse words in English. It's vulgar for what else exactly ? Is there a non-curse synonym for it ? Or is it purely a swear word with nothing else corresponding ?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 7:00 PM EST

Well, you can retard the progress of something. As a verb or a noun.

Sickone December 21 2011 7:03 PM EST

Seriously ? THAT is considered a swear word ?
Then I suppose you also want to ban handicapped, dwarf, giant, fat, and a host of other words describing various shortcomings... oh, wait, you aren't going to, are you ? So why just that word ? :P

QBRanger December 21 2011 7:07 PM EST

Sickone

I also thought it was due to the R word. That got deleted from a post of mine without fine.

It was for a word meaning excrement. Not the R word. I was also very confused till it was explained to me.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 7:08 PM EST

Your argument stalled Bob. =/ Dirty words are set in stone while insults are not.
It didn't stall. The fact that they are set in stone is irrelevant to my point.

And swearing does not equate to trolling, as I have repeatedly demonstrated here (without swearing).

Seriously ? THAT is considered a swear word ?
*sigh* Again, that was NOT what he was fined for. It's all there in the thread, several times over.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] December 21 2011 7:10 PM EST

Aye, I suppose I should point out I was just using retard to highlight the point made earlier about bastard.

Lord Bob December 21 2011 7:15 PM EST

Now you're just trying to make me laugh.

Sickone December 21 2011 7:17 PM EST

I wasn't talking about what he was fined for (or not fined for), I was merely inquiring whether the "r" word was considered punishable or not, and if yes, why.

TH3 C0113CT0R December 21 2011 7:20 PM EST

That would be, for the lack of a better chortle, evil liberal elite to be fine for calling you a jerk while talking in vulgar detail about my bowel movements for comedic shock value purposes. When we have Frequently Offered Redundant Suggestions instead of the current name then I'll worry about the forums...

We do, and he should be fined millions upon millions for every redundant thread he starts.

This is one of the reasons why I dont use chat any more. Havent you guys got better things to do. Most games I play have a chat filter to take care of most things - however 2 of the games dont filter the word that sounds like the thing that you put your oars into in a rowing boat (this is another R word) - so I can have some fun there :)

got one thing to say in this forum..:
We're all adults here. Ok, some of you may be late teens or young adults,
Alrighty~!

anyway, i know most of the people do not care about the PG rule, finding it unnecessary but when you put a PG word in a content in a good way, while you see it wrong it might bring out discussions since i know most of the people here WILL fight about it. they WILL NOT accept defeat in any other way, making it a waste of energy or thinking or atleast internet since a simple apology or acceptance could be all it needs.
the 100k fine on L3G0 should be fine, not that much, a day thats all. if a single question was given their was no need for this discussion >.>

Gun or whatever you call yourself now days and anyone else who cares... I've been gone for the last let's say week cause I don't have the time nor do I care to try and show up anymore. That's point 1 for when OB comes to count ''valid points''

point 2 I've been yelling and screaming about inconstant actions for how long now and in return I get more and move vague answers and further more while on subject .. PS. Titan, I still don't have an answer to my CM I'd like to tell you I'm surprised but I'm really not.

I CM'd you AND emailed you... I'd like to tell you I did that like 3 days ago... but I did...

GL: chatmail me

LB: with a word as potentially hateful as that I don't see the great crime in limiting it's use...
