78, both numbers add up to 13 on the first 2, 15 on the 2nd.

So after finding the answer out from Pit himself, i'm tossing 1m to the winner to figure this out.

+3, -1 after a one number skip with one part of the pattern

Second part of the pattern I saw was -1, +1 from the previous number is the second part of the Pattern so both match up to 87 :-)

Completely random approach:

6[7], 5[8], 9[6]
The ones digit follows the pattern of alternating increasing negative/postive value:
+1, -2, +3

[6]7, [5]8, [9]6
The tens digit uses the ones digit pattern to determine it's value. Ignoring the first number in the sequence, it doubles the value of the ones pattern with the opposite alternative negative/positive value:
-1, +4, -6

If I am right this is actually far more simple that I thought. (>.<)

The general Pattern is High, Low, High & Low

The Difference between 67 and 58 is 9 which is the key to this pattern however only half of it.

96 - 58 = 38
96 - 67 = 29
(another 9)
38 - 29 = 9 (annnnd 9 again)

But there is another difference in there. The difference is in the differences. Which is shown above 9 jumps to 29, then 29 to 38 which is 9 added. So the difference in the pattern would be a 20 so it should be 9,20.

9+20=29
29+9=38
38+20=58
58+9=67
67+20=87
87+9=96

Now let's reverse this logic. From the first pattern -20 then -9

96-9=87
87-20=67....ok so it works as we found another part of the pattern.
67-9=58 and another
58-20=38
38-9=29
29-20=9

Now remember the pattern was jumping 1 then 2 still following 9 then 20

So 58+9= 67, 67+29= 96 so go back one pattern that was jumped....20

96-20= 76 or to explain it better 67-9 and 96-20

So my answer is 76 otherwise I will say I am seeing things and have gone mad.......which is a possibility since this looks like it is alluding to a Birth Date 9/20/76.......lol *looks around all paranoid and such*

or the pattern is three back on the former pattern. 96 - 3 places is 58, then 67 - 3 Places is 29..........

With my 1m addition can I request that the winning number has to be more then a random guess? Someone will eventually get it by luck. Basically just want a reason with each guess, which most have given so far. :)

my reasoning behind the most recent choice has to do with:

4,5,6,7,8,9,0

6&7 are between 5&8

so between 9&6 IS 8&7!!!

87 or 78!!! or 5&0 which is outside of 9&6

the answer that you are looking for is 49!!? :D
