Path of Exile (in General)

For those of you who don't know, it's been in open beta for a few weeks now. Anyone been playing or doing the races? I've been playing on hardcore and doing races when I get a chance. It'd be nice to get a group of CBers for group races.

I'd never heard of it. As an action RPG is it as it's core a Diablo style game? How is it?

From the little I played I would say more like Champions of Norrath style than Diabloesque.

Ok the only real way for me to explain it is this:

Playstyle is very diablo2esque with its differences being the leveling/skill system and item modification.

Leveling up gives to points on a passive skill tree that is like Final Fantasy X's. It has roughly 1400+ skill nodes or something like that.

Skills are equipped into sockets on your items and level up with you getting stronger as they level like materia in Final Fantasy VII

Items can be modified with different orbs that drop on the ground. Anywhere from rerolling stats, adding new ones, upgrading from magic to rare etc etc. Some are far more rare then others and have much higher value and trade for much more. These are the games 'currency' for trading with other players and even the game itself.

The economy is 100% item based, there is no gold.

Hardcore is way more fun. When you die your character goes to the Softcore league, it doesn't die forever... but it's no longer in hardcore ;P Plus the economy in HC is more stable.

Played a a witch to 5. Seems pretty fun. Want to try a melee fighter next.

Add me in game, I play on hardcore most of the time but I got a couple softcore chars for messing around with friends who aren't committed to dying only once ;P


Xenogard is the name.

I have a level 46 softcore maurader, haven't played in a couple weeks though. Fun game, and not pay to win at all. This is a proper successor to Diablo 2.

If my Templar miraculously dies somewhere in Act III Cruel, well you might just have a softcore leveling partner ;P
