Question 4: Knowing you had a 50 percent chance of winning and would be paid 10 times the amount of your bet if you won, what fraction of what you now own would you be willing to wager?

Usually I'd say zero. But now I've access to some disposable income.

I'd wager most of the dispoable portion.

Just to make this one more fun, once enough people have replied, I'll run a random flip of the coin for each person and we'll see what your fate is!

50/50 is still 50/50, and I'd rather not lose all I own to a coin flip. However 25% of my entire networth x10 is a fairly nice chunk of change, I might be willing to make the bet again after that ;P

I own a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, several couches I have found on the sides of the road, A couple guns, a Fender T-Bucket acoustic electric 300 guitar, an Ibanez GSR Electric Bass, an Ibanez Gio electric Guitar, a Peavey Guiter amp, a Peavey Bass amp, a 40'' LCD Television, a full size bed, a Microwave, Golf Clubs, football, soccer ball, 6 Softballs, 3 gloves and a bat, basketball, hand wraps, 16 oz boxing gloves, UFC open finger fighting mitts, shin guards, 120 lb Heavey Bag, Everlast Speed Bag, Heavey Bag stand, a Katana, Bokken, Shinai, a couple coffee tables, a chair, recliner, desk, tv stand, PS3, Wii, several games for each, smartphone, waffle maker, electric skillet, nuwave cooktop, assortment of pans, woks, baking sheets, silverware, plates, cups, rice maker, blender, Viola, Keyboard, Ukulele and about 200 lb of clothes, towels, bed sheets. A few more items, but I covered over 90%. Nothing I couldn't lose all of and not restart. No extra cash in the bank, there is cash there, but it doesn't outweigh my debts, so I don't count it.

like Neo everything I have if I lost it all in even a fire idc because its only materialistic items. everything from my movies and games collection to my comic books baseball and coin collection wont be with me forever im sure. so all i would really use to bet with is cash i have in the bank which is barely a months pay and all the cash i could get from selling my effects.

Ah. I guess if you guys don't own a home or have to pay a mortgage, it makes it easier to approach a 100% bet.

lol I may not have that comfort level, but paying rent + utilities + food + entertainment still has its effects on my savings :l its easy to bet it all when there is not much to bet compared to others

I think if I were in your shoes, I'd probably keep at least a car and enough money for food and gas for a decent period of time, so I could start back up and not be at a complete loss. And maybe a few outfits!

Man that is a LOT of molah! My set aside disposable income is a secret(Really for another car if/when my Toyota finally gives up the ghost) but for reference I'd be walking away with enough to buy 2 Cars and pay Insurance/Gas for a year ;-)

I set up a huge betting pool about whether I would win or not, at 2:1 odds for me winning and 1:2 odds of me losing.
I would then bet the full amounts wagered by those betting on me winning minus half of the bets for me losing and operating costs.
Worst case scenario, I break even.

I'll miss my instruments the most... =(
