Regarding NUBs (in General)
I have heard lots of chatter about wanting to be able to transfer characters to new users NUB accounts. The policy is this - You may make a new account. You abandon old characters and accounts. You may keep your equipment and money.
Heck if you want, we admins can change the name on the old account and give your name back to you.
Pro tip: if you change the name of your old account before you abandon it, the name will be available to your new account. The same applies to your email address.
Source: I did this.
Just for clarification. All characters will be new and old characters will not be transferred?
I don't believe any clarification is necessary but here it goes:
If you want to start a new user and gain a New User Bonus (NUB) you may not transfer any characters from the old account. To anyone. It is gone forever. End of discussion.
If need be in the future the admins can just Nuke the old account. I really don't want to use that option because I see it as a fun bonus to be able to beat my old characters.

Can NO ONE'S character be transferred to anyone's new NUB?
I have a very specific scenario: when I start my new NUB I want to remain at 6/20 at any cost (since adequate sleep is nearly priceless), so I splurge on buying someone else's 6/20 character. As long as the character they sell to me never belonged to me at any other time, would that be fine?
Sorry to make you act like some kind of CB2 lawyer, Tal, I just don't want to be jerked around when I try something that isn't explicitly against the rules only to be told I can't do it at the last minute.

I just found a post from Admindudemus on an old 2009 post of mine that is very similar to this one:
http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=002tU0
"on your NCB character do you still get increased rewards based on BA regen level?"
you do not, you get your rewards based on the ba regen rate of the character fighting, so if you are fighting with your ncb, you will pay the cost of your highest mpr for bought ba but your rewards will be based on your ncb.
So, if this really is true, and also works the same way for NUBs as it does for NCBs, then I would only be shooting myself in the foot by wanting a 6/20 character active. I'd be receiving 6/20 BA regen, but I would only be getting the fight rewards for a 10/20 regen character, at the start of my new NUB for example.... Right?
If you start a new user, you must ABANDON all old characters. The new user ID will not gain an old character (within a time limit).
9 months to the day of creation you may purchase and transfer a character to the user.
Old characters will not receive a NUB bonus.
There is no reason to try or want to transfer old characters onto a new account. They will not receive the nub bonus so the most you would get if you were fighting with the old char is free bought BA for the duration of the nub and the cost of transferring the char will offset that. Otherwise it will just cost you BA as your regen rate will go down without any bonus to rewards. Again the xfer will cost as well.
Does this spoil my plan to get someone to transfer an old, low MPR character to me to bump my account into Gondor? I was thinking I could save myself an extra click when looking at stats. Just to be sure I didn't shoot myself in the foot I was going to wait until my NUB ends.
That is for the best. At best it would just put you into Gondor, at worst you would lose the money boost part of the NUB. I ran into problems with my own NUB back when I was first starting because I bought The Four Seasons when I was only halfway through my NUB bonus. I don't remember if this killed the money bonus entirely or if it was only for fighting with the older character as its been many years but it's best to wait until after the NUB ends.
A deeper discussion of this is warranted I suspect - we can get a few other things out of the way first I guess.

Silly question... in games like Shakes and Fidget and Clash of Clans, games where you can't transfer to another character; it didn't matter how many accounts you have.
I'd love to start a new NUB and play it alongside this account. I just wouldn't want to lose this account. You know... it's been here since the start.
Is there no way of being able to create an NUB and have 2 accounts. If it's in the open and you physically don't ever transfer anything (no exceptions)then I don't see the problem? If anything it gets more action for the servers and gets more accounts fighting. Can't be a bad thing? Granted I might be missing somewhere here but with the low levels of players - it's not hard to police. Coupled with the fact that it's mostly old vets playing, who are pretty sound people, I really don't see an issue?
Wasp: people have lost thousands of dollars of stuff for doing that - before we cross that line I'd like to see us come together to make CB sustainable

Why/how did they lose that?

Double post....
So there's not really any options for me to enjoy this game currently. I check back every once in a while. Sometimes I stay a while. All I can do is forge stuff until I'm bored again and disappear. I can't afford an NCB. Can't really attack with this character, hell, it's not even mine - bought it a long time ago (to forge with lol)
I don't really want to have to start a new character to give an NUB and have to delete this.
Is there the possibility for me to retire my characters and start a new character with the NUB bonus??
Yes. It involves a new account, but I think you knew that.
You're clinging to an 'account creation' date. Is it really that special?
Yes, I'm with Wasp in feeling it is that special, but I was someone who played CB1 until the last possible second
Wasp - they were fined as multis, I suspect we aren't going to do a whole lot of that in the next few months as things progress - however I don't see ditching a core tenant of the game as a good choice either.
I hope you keep checking back, and I hope we find a way to catch your attention again.
I had a 1/1/2005 creation date on my old account too, so I understand the attachment. But since the choice is essentially between 'keeping your account as a badge of honour' and 'actually playing the game', I strongly recommend the latter to any player with even a passing interest in returning to the game.
Just to clarify, Wasp, your existing account isn't deleted. You just stop using it.
I am aiming for not having "multis" by having you abandon the old account. you only get one user ID at a time. and only once every 6 months can you do this.

My acc started 1/1/2005 as well. Didn't realize it has been that long. 12 years of CB. I was thinking of NUB too, but don't feel like ditching this account.

Just reviving this one last time. If I was to ditch this account and start an NUB account am I able to transfer the character at the end... to say this account. Ditch the NUB account and continue playing this account? It's only 1 user ID at a time? Is that allowed?

Hey, I'll sell you one of my NUB characters, if you can wait! No need to try any shenanigans! lol
You can take a character from a non-NUB account to a non-NUB account... once the NUB bonus is gone you can do whatever you want.

Sounds legal then. You know, I haven't had a run with a character for a long time. It would be nice to start one with an NUB and see what happens : )

So my current account will be idle (not erased) while I play NUB account. Great, I will give NUB a try.
Your current account would cease to exist(basically).
There is no going back. If you want a NUB then that's the choice you get to make.
I don't think anyone has actually answered Wasp's question specifically
I'm not clear on the rule that was implemented, but my understanding of the logistics is that the character from your original account would have to be warehoused on a third account (non-related) for the duration of the NUB bonus in order to retain ownership of it.

Yes this is confusing. So how do I transfer the current character when the NUB expired?
From my understanding is you abandon your old account. I can never use my prior account. So wasp, you can't run a NUB and xfer the character to your old account when your NUB is up. Again, this is my understanding from what Tal explained to me.

I wrote a big reply but I deleted it.
If you want an old character sell it to someone that's not a NUB. Buy it back after your NUB bonus is gone. Someone is gonna make money off of parking your character though.

What I thought was, I can play the NUB until the bonus is over and transfer the character to the current account.
CoolWater - if I'm understanding you correctly, that isn't what is currently allowed

I think the rule should be loosen up considering not many are playing now. I hardly have time to play with 1 account let alone playing 2 accounts. I think we should be allowed to register new account to play NUB until the bonus time is over and then transfer this NUB character to the old account and ditch the new account. At the end of the day, we still only play with 1 account.
CoolWater.
If you do not wish to abandon your account, you do not have to. You may not have 2 active accounts at one time ever.

I wrote another long reply but deleted it : /
This is why I love tourneys. Bonus experience, money and items (tourney char only). It's own BA. It's like starting a new character to compete with others on a time line. You can compare these to your past tourneys with different style of leveling (depending on tourney rules). I know there's been talk of one recently, I wonder if that will appease the gnar gnar talks for the mean time ;)
Sorry for double posting, what if instead of tourneys, there were seasons....since rules as tourneys, but characters have a certain amount time (multiple weeks 12-16 guessing) you don't keep your items, don't keep your char after season. Just seasonal prize. Seems to be the same as all the debacle over this nub issue
I apologize for the spit balling here. What if instead hitting the new character bonus when you go to new. You can just hit NUB bonus that allows NUB character bonus without creating a new account that is strictly only applies to that character and not your account. Everyone has their own individual start and end date (when nub expires). Users keep their mains and have a secondary non profitable account merged into one. Seperate BA
