default should be 'off'

Whatever alerts there are, I'd like them to default to 'off'.

-- bartjan

I second Bart's comments

I live in the forums pretty much when I'm here. Are you talking about the feature of letting me know when a thread has been created in a particular forum or when a thread of mine has a new response? That last one, especially, I'd like to set to 'off'. But, like I said I live in the forums, so that isn't really a necessary feature for me. I guess a CM alert when a new FS/WTB posting arrives, or a changelog post might not be a bad things. But traffic could get pretty busy.

Whatever it is: Default -> off pretty please!?!?

Other...

Make it default not to send emails, but to check it if you want the email

-- smallpau1 - Go Blues

Cm's....?

I think the CM one is kinda pointless... I mean, who here really isn't on CB, but you check you email and don't go on CB in that same sitting anyway? It's on your homepage as soon as you get here

-- {CB1}Lukeyman

I Third Bart's Comments

Make the default off. I always have to go back and turn off the alerts when my inbox starts getting spammed with CB alerts that I didn't want in the first place.

And although I never use alerts, I think that CM is better than e-mail. I wish I could switch my vote now that I have had more of a chance to think about it. Is there a way to switch my vote? If not, there should be.

"I think the CM one is kinda pointless... I mean, who here really isn't on CB, but you check you email and don't go on CB in that same sitting anyway? It's on your homepage as soon as you get here"

Maybe you are checking your e-mail for some other purpose, and won't be on CB that session (it does happen). It's easier for it to be there in your CM inbox when you log on, because then you are already in CB and ready to read it.

Default: off

How many people like the default being on?

-- AvoidCXT

Hmmm

I think the default should be off as I hate going onto my email and deleting 20020002000000 emails, but I'd also like to recieve a CM. Maybe if there are new postSSSS, plural, one CM if there are any new posts in your thread.

Notify me of the initial post, but NOT its subsequent comments. I used to keep the notification turned on for Changelog until a particularly hot one hit and I came home to several hundred notifications.

If this has already been changed, please ignore my stupidity and go on about your business, I haven't messed with it for a while.

-- Timberwolf

(if you just want notification of thread creations, use the rss feed)

-- AdminJonathan

Thank you Jonathan, I will do that. : )

-- Timberwolf

Go bart!

Finally, I will stop being reminded that I bumped my FS/WTB thread :P

I chose other because although I think they can be pretty useful, I don't think they should be automatic.
There should be an option when you create a thread to either get them in e-mail, CM or not at all.

-- Zoglog[T]

I'll try to keep this succinct

Alerts have their use. I personally find them helpful in that they default on to threads I create. I rarely use them for threads others create, since there is such low activity on the forums. FS/WTB alerts should definitely default to off, given the restriction on posting. As bart may have mentioned, allowing the option to set the default state for newly created threads would be useful for people who, unlike me, don't want alerts at all. I for one would like ot keep getting alerted when people reply to a thread I create.

-- AdminNightStrike

Followup

As a note, I see that CM alerts are highly desirable in the polls... PLEASE make that an option.. I'll even pay you to make that an option. Some of us receive piles of CMs all the time, and it's insanely difficult as it is to manage. Adding an onslaught of even more CMs from that darn "system" account will not help at all.

-- AdminNightStrike

Aucitons

I would like to be able to setup a CM note if something is in auctions that I'm looking for. But I don't really need it for the forums, I'm on here and notice when a new post has been made anyways. So I would like that to be defaulted to Off.

-- Mikel

default off

and what Mikel said, that's handy.

i like email alerts on chatmails that you receive. Every chatmail including system chatmails

-- Brakke Bres

Keep them.

I like getting e-mail alerts, because though I do pop into forums for a fair bit of time, I always go to my email before CB and sometimes get to see that there's been a response to a thread that I had forgotten. At least let me have the option. CM alerts would suck for me, as I'd be hit with tons of them at a time and I'd never be able to hold another CM conversation again.

-- QBOddBird

Alerts

It would be nice if any alert only sent 1 message to say that a thread was updated since you last checked it, rather than getting a message for every single reply.

-- Xenko

I only use active threads, checking it once a day works for me :)

-- AdminShade

I like e-mail alerts I just wish it woudn't give them to me when i reply to my own posts. Maybe something to check if I was post creator before generating one would be nice.

-- Zaekyr

lol, just the other day i deleted 100 comments in a row from the tower defense original thread. So yea, i would like the default to be set to no notification, but make it an option to turn it on.
