Now, you should all know that I have reinstated the Economic Reports.
I was wondering about which addition to make and I thought about the Spell Popularity.

Now the question I am asking, which I cannot solve on my own, is the following.
Which filtering to use with regards where to get the numbers from to be the most representative for the people who would want to see it?

Should I:

Pick from 'All characters' including inactive users? 6.5
Pick from 'All characters' but only include active users? 59.7
Pick from the top 50% of active characters? 19.5
Pick from the top 25% of active characters? 10.4
Pick from the top 10% of active characters? 2.6
Pick from the top 5% of active characters? 1.3

Yup.

Please state your reasoning?

I see players voting but not put their reasoning in.
While on the one hand, it is convenient, on the other hand you could make a very fair point.

50%

I say go for the top 50% active players. More indicative of the spells popularity as well as use in the upper end of the game.

-- MonkeyMandate

Top 50%

My reasoning is that it would be more sensible since top50% are likely to be more competive compared to maybe low level farms etc.
One exception frm the poll is that I woulda wanted active and inactive users of the top50%. Wrote all this because reasoning was wanted ;p

Either 10% or 25%

Pick from 'All characters' including inactive users? -> That would be pointless, I don't even know why it's an option in the first place

Pick from 'All characters' but only include active users? -> In other words, include people who only logged in to see how things are going or if their stuff is still there, people who actually forge instead of fight and so on and so forth ? No thank you.

Pick from the top 50% of active characters? -> This is a bit better. Considering we have little over 200 users, this would mean analyse about 100 characters. Still, many would be people in the middle of a NCB run and not quite settled on a strategy, hence with weird XP distributions.

Pick from the top 25% of active characters? -> Now, we're only talking the top 50, which is reasonably competitive, mostly dominated by older characters and NCBs near the end of the run.

Pick from the top 10% of active characters? -> That would be "top 20" characters. Hmm. Not exactly representative of the entire game, but certainly representative of the "endgame". Personally, I think this is the best option (if not, the previous one then, top 25%).

Pick from the top 5% of active characters? -> let's be serious, top 10 is a bit too restrictive to mean much in a statistic. Even "top 20" was a bit of a stretch, but "top 10" certainly is. So, no thanks.

Pick from the top 1% of active characters? -> Well, I might as well showinfo the top two characters and look at them myself. Pointless option :)

Alright I think there is some confusion.

You can only choose between the top x Characters not users.

So choosing for the top 50% would be the top 50% characters from active users.

I have checked and only switching from top 5% to top 1% made a huge difference, the other steps make hardly any difference.

25-50

Pick from the top 50% or 25%. All active characters would be pointless because it would include a lot of Nubs who have no idea what they are doing and forgers and ect. We all know they are going to either quite or change their strategy as they go up. I voted for the top 50% but now that I spent some more time thinking about it I would go with 25%.

-- Eliteofdelete

I picked 25% so that people like me, who are forever stuck in the lower ranks, would not screw with the relevance of the stats. (Which will be used by people high up anyway, I think.) Though I now realise, this would not include new N*Bs that could be on their way to the top, and which would then be important in the big picture.

b and e

I guess the filters can't be made to include more than one choice? That would be cool because stats change in the top ranks to beat certain players but at low ranks Fireball - they say is more effective for one minion growing.. so if we have a choice I would choose top 5%or 10% AND 'all active'.

-- RaptorX

All characters

Hi Shade! :)

I would go with "All characters including inactive users". For me, it's all about consistency. The other stats include inactive users as well, so it makes sense to me to include inactive users for spell popularity as well. For example, when you do a weapon count, you're also counting weapons held by minions in inactive accounts, so why not here as well?

-- AdminLamuness

Hey!

You have a point. However, items on characters remain in the game while spells on inactive characters are not popular to try and see something about strategies from.

Anyway, I've picked 100% of active characters, let's see what that gives first :)

-- AdminShade

All Active

All active people should count.. right?
