Dudemus wonders the following:
If you could start over with a character having NUB but have all transfers, other than auctions, blocked forever for that team would you?

first!

hahaha no way

-- winner winner

definitely not.

-- AdminShade

I would, then I would make a deal with someone and sell extremely overpriced daggers to each other.

-- Shalot

I would

But like Shalot said people will find a way to xfer.

-- Brakke Bres

No

But for the same reason I won't run an NCB, I put way too much work into my char to just scrap it and start over even if I'd be getting a really good bonus.

-- SundariZelia

; )

the auction records allow us to see what the price has been doing as well as any anomalies. yes, it could still be manipulated but that is no different from the current system and perhaps easier to observe as it would be limited to one venue.

-- Admindudemus

No.

Down with the NUB!

-- Lord Bob

Bleh.

Not a solution at all, except maybe with a NewNUB realm separated from the others. The thing is, though, that would solve nothing. The NUB needs to be retooled.

-- Eurynome Bartleby

No

First we get disposable characters, now disposable accounts. No thanks.

-- Admin{CB1}Slayer333

clarification

you would keep your same account, the nub and no-transfer status would apply to that team only, just like the ncb is now.

-- Admindudemus

No

Not being able to get stuff forged and doing other kinds of business would be sad :| specially in your Xth year as a NUB with massive blocks

-- Canibus

No

I'd rather not be cut out of the community, economy wise. And it does promote disposable accounts.

-- three4thsforsaken

Yes

I would like to build multiple characters and test strategies without destroying my capability of being able to compete with my main. And waiting for tournaments is not a satisfying alternative.

-- Wraithlin

Looks like the voting is somewhat... balanced :D Who would have guessed

-- noidraug

better plan.. just give everyone 1 CB lifetime NUB to use and be done with it all and end it..
choose between regular, NCB,or NUB, wit each details of each listed..
When a handle uses his NUB its gone..ended..no more..done.. finis.. Fin..

-- Shark

One option

Right now it would give me a way to start a character and not have to put USDs into it. It is a much better way than the NCB to me, But still very odd to not be able to rent or sell?? Very odd. I am not sure, but the NCB is broken, by evidence of Zanai's $1600 archer run. A real NUB bonus of perhaps 5 months or 6 doesn't seem so bad. It still wouldn't generate near that much money.

-- RaptorX

Why?

We already have an NCB.

Besides, for those of us that actually want to keep our chars for forging we will need transfers.

-- Levon

More Clairification...

...and your transfer characters and no-transfer characters would each have their own BA accrual buckets.

This isn't a change to the game -- it would only be an enhancement. So, I assume the "no" votes are simply "I wouldn't do it", much like people might say, "Tournaments are fine, I just don't play in them."

I cannot see any reason why anyone would be against the idea in threory, though. This isn't a fix to any imbalance, and it won't affect the "normal" teams in the game. it is only a plus (unless I am missing something, and I would very much like to hear where I might be missing something!)

two active characters at once?

That would be cool having double BA/one allotment per character to play with, but I am not sure that is what is being proposed. Though what do you do if you have a big weapon you don't need on one NUB character? You can't sell it or trade it ? The weapon/tat morph system would have to be expanded to include other stuff.

-- RaptorX

Raptor...

In my head, that is what was proposed. Two active characters. On a "transfer" character, and one a "no-transfer" character.

Massive weapons have nothing to do with it. If your no-transfer character has a huge weapon, it is his/hers forever. He/she can only transfer to the other no-tranfer chars within a username.

This is a brand new bucket of character: separate BA accrual, no transfers, where USD and everything else don't matter.

So, the only issue is whether or not there would be enough interest to warrant the programming. I initially thought all it would take is a character-level database flag and some code in the transfer portion of CB's innards. It would take a little more than that, for things like turning off the drop system (no point in worthless drops when you can't even sell them. Come to think, no point to worthless drops at all, but that's beside the point *smile*)

That's the plan. Again, as the inside of my head sees it, anyway. Honestly, no one, including Jonathan or NS has shown much interest, so it's not something that has much of a chance of instantiating.

-- QBsutekh137

Heck yeah !

Absolutely and totally yes.

I would surpass my current character both in MPR and NW long before my NUB-time is over.

I seldom transfer anything except via auctions (don't plan on ever buying CB$, don't plan on ever selling out, trades can easily be made via auctions even if at a slightly higher price), so I could easily live with all those drawbacks.

-- Sickone

I agree...

...with what Sut just said. I would love it if we could have a separate BA pool to play non-transfer NUB character(s).

-- Tyriel

What you guys seem to want is basically a permanent tournament with no BA limit and some free BA daily, with a high tournament bonus only for the first 6 months of the tourney char's life... heh.

-- Sickone

Nope

Wouldn't do it.

-- QBOddBird

Correct, Sickone...

Yes, that is a good summary of what it would be like, Sickone.

Except all aspects of play would be available, including joining clans, forging (can you forge with a tourney character?), etc. Actually, not really much etc., as clanning and forging would be just about the only non-tourney type of things, I guess...

If nothing else, it would give more targets for people up the score ladder, though I am not thinking there is a dearth there now (except maybe in terms of finding clan targets).

-- QBsutekh137

What can i do with a new NUB...

That i cant do with a NCB?... I think the only issue with the NCB is the cost to run it...

-- [Where Shirt]Freekie

Right, molotov

Exactly... A full-on NUB would allow one to make enough cash (from rewards) for BA purchases so that even without transfers, such a new character could be fairly competitive. BUT, taking transfers out of the equation make the new character's "power" be limited to what that character can do alone: no massive weapons from previous years of fighting, no big tattoo to strap on when done with bonuses (unless you grow it yourself), no USD, etc.

That's what makes it an intriguing concept. In a way, it is what a lot of folks were hoping CB2 might start out as, but it was just too tempting to use things like money from CB1 trading and/or USD to get a bit of an edge (I include myself in that, I used USD to help purchase minions and upgrade gear, that's the only reason Hubbell reached the top five).

-- QBsutekh137

that is definitely the reason that i am intrigued by the idea...having a character that is a self-made team. the poll was also a way though for me to guage how the community looks at transfers. are they really that necessary?

-- Admindudemus

...

If we find the NUB is used for nothing more than USD cash grab and multis. then remove the bonus. i would not restart with that handicap.

-- Unappreciated Misnomer

The Point of it all

Is not to find some way to hack the system of it or spend 1400 USD on a new character to break records. The point is that some people, me included, would like to try to compete with more than one team at a time, which under the current system is impossible. On top of that, I realize that if we just allowed multiple account, all the cheaters out there would instantly start cheating, so this proposal is for us that would legitimately like to try different legal strats to do so.

-- Wraithlin

Like Ironman Challenges

From old Rogue-like games.

It would be 'pure' CB. How you can run a character with no outside influence. Like 'Hardcore' Diablo II gameplay, some people would love to get a new challenge in CB. ;)
