Hacker's Diet challenge - April (in Off-topic)

Sukotto [lookingglas] April 3 2006 10:15 PM EDT

Welcome to the April Hacker's Diet Challenge ! Everyone welcome to join.  You can join at any time.

This thread helps keep each of us "on the wagon" of our diet and/or exercise program. Many of us find it so easy to skip days or give up when we're by ourselves.  This thread gives a larger support structure (or maybe just a feeling of guilt... I don't know) by making our effort semi-public.

Joining is easy.  Make a commitment to post daily for a month.  Post what you need to in order to prove to yourself that you've met your commitment for the day (many of us post our weight and what sort of exercise we've done).  However, please keep in mind that this thread is just a record for staying honest.  If you want to track a lot of detail you should use a private logbook. If you don't exercise then just post that you followed your diet for the day (including what level you are in your program if appropriate) and your weight if you want.

You are not obligated to post your weight if you feel uncomfortable doing so.

The important thing here is making a commitment and following through (posting to verify that you're keeping up).  This is not a contest and negative comments about any participants or comparisons of participant progress are strictly not allowed. (This includes "backhanded compliments" and weight jokes). This is an effort to positively reinforce some good habits. (Words of encouragement are always welcome though, of course.)

Please don't post about how you'd like to join us.  Just join us. We care about the doing, not the talking. :-) And we're very glad to welcome you to the group!

Since you only compare your progress to yourself, you can join anytime and at any level.  I hope you'll jump on board with us!

(Get a free copy of John Walker's eBook "The Hacker's Diet" here. It includes Excel-based tracking/graphing tools).
This thread continues from the March one

Woo Hoo! I made my first milestone of level 15... and I did it 8 weeks early. Now on to level 20!

I originally set a goal of Jun 1st for level 15 and Dec 1st for level 20 but am progressing faster than expected. So I just moved my goal up a bit. Now I plan to reach level 20 by Aug 1st. Given how much harder I'm finding the exercise now I think 3 weeks per level is reasonable but it might be too much. We'll just have to see .

What's really cool, is when I go back and try a rung that used to just about kill me... and now it's really easy. For me, just putting the time in (without cheating) every day has made a huge improvement. I wonder how fast I would improve if I really got serious and started pushing a bit harder. (right now I just do the same rung until I feel it's gotten to be no problem, then jump to the next.)

This is really working for me and I hope a few of you guys that just read the thread will make a short term commitment to join us (how about 30 days?)

Cycling is getting quite easier, went back home last week with a speed of almost 30 miles / hour (~45 km/hour) and yesterday cycled with an almost constant speed of 20 miles / hour (30 km/hour)

deifeln April 13 2006 4:57 AM EDT

Quitting smoking will make the weight loss tougher, but is going to do wonders for your overall health. Good luck with both G_Beee!

babbler April 13 2006 10:48 AM EDT

it will make the exercising easier to offset it though. Breathing always helps :)

Sukotto [lookingglas] April 13 2006 3:03 PM EDT

Welcome back G Beee and congrats for putting aside cigarettes!

Great job Shade. What's your next milestone and when are you planning to reach it?

AdminShade April 13 2006 3:12 PM EDT

but that's the first time in months that it happened, so it's not that bad. Tire is fixed and I can cycle again tomorrow.

another new milestone: my weight 67 1/2 kilo !!!

I'm not really going for the 65 or 66 but if I'd make it, i'll be happy to have lost more than 5 kilo's from cycling half a year :)
