I have a '96 Toyota Starlet and am about to build my DIM (do it myself) hatchback cover.
Anyone have tips or ideas?

Beee,
Don't tease Shade by showing a pic of the SL550.
However it is an awesome car.

Hehehehe, I like my Toyota Starlet fine enough :)
I'd even sell the SL550 to buy a different car most likely :p
Bump, anyone has any tips, ideas or things not to forget?
I still don't understand the question.
It sounds (with the newly revised title) like Shade wants help building a custom Hatch back shelf (they split the back of the car and hang from the rear door).

Yes.
However atm I already have found a few Dutch and English websites regarding the topic. I now have a basic mould for the board / shelf which fits nicely.
Only things I need to be doing now is make a rotating suspension and cut (saw) out the holes in which the speakers will come and add some things for decoration.
Afterwards some acoustic material will be spread and glued over it to make it a nice finish.

Perhaps a picture to make it a bit more clear even ;)
Basicly I want to make this myself:

Use a bit of ply for the speakers to sit in around the holes that you cut. Will give them more support then just the shelf itself. Have you had a look at the wiring yet? I was going to put 6x9's on the parcel shelf but the speakers are in the rear door atm, doing all the wiring changed my mind. I then convinced myself that the sound system was fine how it is :D

Wasp, what do you mean with more support?
Using ply (as in multiplex?) just around the 6x9's wouldn't be stronger than the MDF board I'm using I think...

MDF or ply wood is fine. It gives something for the speakers to be on and gives them support : ) Whats the wattage of your radio?

I have a Blaupunkt Santa Cruz MP36.
It has 4x 45 max power output.
