Either MPR has far too little a role in forging (in General)

TheHatchetman November 3 2007 7:26 PM EDT

or the NUB bonus to forging is wayyy too high.

Relax NUBs, as I think it is the first one...

I am out-forged by two people in the 24 hour rankings by ~20-50% while using a char Just under 1.2m MPR, and not missing a single BA while working on ELB +. The problem is that the characters outdoing me so badly are 38k and 73k MPR and I'm almost positive they miss at least *some* BA...

I wasn't complaining when Spawn and kmg were forging millions of net worth a day, because they actually had some MPR to do it with, but this... hi yi yi...

[RX3]Cotillion November 3 2007 7:55 PM EDT

Hmmm.. Guess you missed this thread

TheHatchetman November 3 2007 8:11 PM EDT

didn't miss it, i was the first reply in it (though i was wrong >.<).

I had always accepted that higher MPR teams were close in efficiency, but to be 31 times someone's MPR, and have only the tinyest of an edge against them. Then this edge gets reversed by the NUB (which i do not mind, as I made as much use of the NUB sa I could, why shouldn't they?)...

Basically, when I was low-level, i was advised not to forge until i was bigger, and I've always advised the same... But with forging the way it is, why wait? Next thing we know, we'll have scenes like this in chat:

<randomnewperson> anyone need any forging done? I can do 5m /week, pm me>>>
<[cb1]Gun> hmm...

I don't know what's going on with the NUBs, but I thought I read in another thread that NUBs get Free BA now, and they don't receive their bonus to cash like in the past.

If this is correct, it may be due to the fact that the forging efficiency hasn't dropped and that they're using all of their free BA.

Iluvatar[NK] November 3 2007 8:22 PM EDT

Forging bonus for NUBs has decreased to 80% of the previous, if I'm not mistaken; BA has become free.

This makes forging a rather lucrative option for NUBs - I'm not surprised that they're outdoing regulars.

TheHatchetman November 3 2007 8:38 PM EDT

but should they be able to have a char big enough to outforge 1m+ MPR teams in the first 2-3 days?

Iluvatar[NK] November 3 2007 8:43 PM EDT

I do think it's somewhat open to abuse. Lots of people are using NUB players to forge bad items at low rates. You know who you are.

However, good for them. As it stands, I applaud those who use the system for personal benefit. It makes good business sense, and as long as it stays this way, people have no incentive to offer good rates to NUBs and "regular" forgers suffer.

Yet, I do think that the system should change - while fighting NUB characters took a 40% hit, forgers only took a 20% hit - while that encourages forging, isn't that a bit too much?

TheHatchetman November 3 2007 8:46 PM EDT

XP didnt take a hit, so it balances out

"However, good for them. As it stands, I applaud those who use the system for personal benefit. It makes good business sense, and as long as it stays this way, people have no incentive to offer good rates to NUBs and "regular" forgers suffer."

So how is that fair? Us "regular" forgers lose business because NUBs are taking over at low prices and they don't know any better?

Iluvatar[NK] November 3 2007 8:59 PM EDT

Oh, I'm not saying it's fair. I recognize that it's unfair. I am simply saying that, as it is, people are smart to take advantage of the inequity in the system.

I do want the status quo to change though. However, when employing forgers, many people will still look to the NUBs for cheaper prices/faster rates.

QBOddBird November 3 2007 9:01 PM EDT

Obviously, we haven't been wanted around for the longest time anyways. I've caught that drift for quite a while. When you ask for a change to forging, it's kind of like...why? It's just stupid forging. Why aren't you fighting anyways, stupid?

So now we're put out of business by NUBs, no? (I'm using the term we, strangely enough, even though I haven't forged (or fought) for months.) And I don't think anyone aside from those who actually have forged in the past and enjoyed it could care less.

Forging past 7 days:

secharion ($5,411,612) NUB, under 100k MPR------horse crap!
traslee ($4,853,936) NUB, under 100k MPR---------horse crap!

"When you ask for a change to forging, it's kind of like...why? It's just stupid forging. Why aren't you fighting anyways, stupid?"

Using a RoBF was stupid too, before it got changed, buffed; then now a lot of people use it. And I make more money forging, and I don't care much for exp.

"Obviously, we haven't been wanted around for the longest time anyways."

Duh... I'm pretty sure Jon intended forging to be a way that people could upgrade their own items cheaper than going to the blacksmith. Either I dreamed it (which would be odd as my dreams usually involve parties, plants, and...cats), or he said it that 24/7 forging for cash was not its purpose...

Unappreciated Misnomer November 3 2007 11:11 PM EDT

i get to spend 3 x 160 BA a day thats all i can get between sleep and real work. ive expected nothing better from cb than to ream me throughly, granted Spawn did well with the mpr he had(very well, gratz). with the current state that the forging economy is in, ive resorted to forging my own stuff and insta-ing that gear to cover the down time i have which is alot.

Wasp November 4 2007 6:51 AM EST

I'm sure Jon will add some sort of change that will help the forgers. Such as an item that will reduce mages DD spells?

Or maybe an anti-mage staff? Or some gloves that block a percentage of damage from a direct damage spell. Who knows?

Don't expect a change, I can't see one happening. I should get this account deleted and come back as an NUB. Life would be so easy eh?

Brakke Bres [Ow man] November 4 2007 7:36 AM EST

Yes more anti DD items! bring it on.

Spawn November 4 2007 11:16 AM EST

"granted Spawn did well with the mpr he had(very well, gratz)"

:D Thanks!

7th highest NW difference for a year (in A month and 1/2) ;)
i was using a 1mil MPR character though (not a few 100k)

But i do agree it is a little bit too much of an advantage...

and it seems all the high NUB forgers came after me...I'm sorry if i opened this can of worms :/

/me points to Mian, Him! it was his idea! hehe

TheHatchetman November 4 2007 11:36 AM EST

I'm not sure about everyone else, but my beef is not with NUB forgers. It's with low low low low low MPR forgers leading the boards. It's insane. There should be a much more noticeable difference in forging efficiency in MPR, or at least a penalty to forging under a certain MPR (like 300k or so?)

[RX3]Cotillion November 4 2007 9:23 PM EST

OR... The relationship of forging to mpr can be fixed/changed to actually make a difference.
