Jon's to-do list petition! (in General)

Flamey March 19 2009 10:34 PM EDT

I personally would like to know what's on his to-do list for CB. Not new additions of course. Just anything to do with maintenance, and bug-fixes and all this stuff.

1. It'll stop all the whining and arguing if people know a fix is on the way.
2. People would pester Jon less?
3. Just asking for a short list (<10) of things that are planned.
4. It'd make us happy little campers.

It'd take a few minutes for him to right out, or 15 seconds if he knows exactly what he wants. Let's sign!

Flamey.

"absolutely!!!! I think Dudemus's to fix list is a great start to this idea as well."

novice actually started the known issues wiki page i believe, i just add things to it often.

i had wanted something for a while though and made several posts / suggestions to jon in that vein. i always envisioned something with more feedback to the community though, but the known issues thread is better than having to bump forum posts hoping jon would notice them when he actually has time to do something about it.

i would like the wiki page more if we could get feedback from jon out beside the items, such as:

on my list
need more data
feature not bug
next changemonth
etc.

i would also like it if we could leave the fixed bug on the page and just move it to a separate section entitled completed. likewise, if it is deemed not a bug then that would also be moved to that section so that people wouldn't keep bugging it in the future.

i tend to think we might have too many sections now and it is sometimes confusing as to where things go, so perhaps just an open and closed section? i do think the closed section would be nicer than jon just deleting the items now and we only know if they were fixed or deemed not a bug if we pull up his wiki edits.

You know, when I started the first petition a long time ago, it had a defined purpose, with a specific desired outcome, and was used judiciously to advocate for something appropriate to the means of conveyance.

This is now starting to get crazy.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] March 20 2009 12:44 AM EDT

Well the last one got something quite great accomplished, and if you want, just think of this as a request.

Colonel Custard [The Knighthood] March 20 2009 1:25 AM EDT

I, too, would like feedback on whether bugs are bugs or not. Thanks.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 20 2009 6:23 AM EDT

what i think is crazy is that when the game acquired a second dev, i think many of us thought twice as much would be accomplished, or perhaps we would get twice as much feedback. an actual player would understand where we are coming from and how it was to be on the outside.

the reality has been quite different though. some of us fear that during your hiatus nightstrike, you were assimilated! ;)

perhaps this will help you remember what it was like:

I knew the Junction petition would open Pandora's Box.
Please don't consider this a signature either, I like the surprise of change months.

QBOddBird March 20 2009 9:36 AM EDT

NS - as I have posted so many times before, "if you give a mouse a cookie..."

This isn't a signature.

Flamey March 20 2009 9:41 AM EDT

Well, TW if you read my actual post, it has nothing to do with knowing what's coming next changemonth, I don't think anyone has ever argued to know that.

It's stopping all the retarded flaming on the forums. Whether things are actually broken or not. Whether it's a bug or it's supposed to be.

I apologise for being so retarded, I'm clearly going insane and have no logic.

Delete this thread, sorry I caused a kerfuffle.

BootyGod March 20 2009 10:02 AM EDT

Yeah, that makes sense OB.

Screw moderation. Give them nothing!

Damn the players! They don't matter. Not that it matters much anymore. There are.... what? 200 people still playing?

But by all means, continue the long standing treatment of the player base. I'm sure if we keep it up, the number of players will magically increase. Players don't want to play a game where every 3 months they get blindsided (Timberwolf- Having some surprise is great. We're not asking for a "tell me exactly what you're doing right now!!!!!!11!".) We're asking to know what is in the works. A simple list at the 1st of each changemonth could say something like

- Working to fix a variety of known bugs
- Looking to improve the stacking of EDs
- Planning on making the first of many changes to the UI.
- Adjusting the power tattoos have in combat.

Something like that would ADD spice to the game. Give players something to talk about and, ideally, to give players at least SOME time to prepare for coming changes. Heck, you would make a rough list at the end of a Changemonth and add to it as we approach changemonth.

Not asking for actual changes. Just something to talk about. I know that when I've played many games, reading about upcoming changes was actually enjoyable.

You all can continue to be scared of change, which is all this is. For anyone to not want this change is just silly. The absolute WORST thing that could come of this is nothing. But I don't see much else changing lately. This change, more likely, will promote community interaction, interesting discussions about upcoming changes and ease the pain of strategies being taken down by changes.

Look, recruitment isn't the only reason the game isn't getting tons of new players. Something has to change. And, no, I'm not saying this one little thing will bring thousands of players to CB. But I'm saying that it has to start somewhere. And this, I know, can help. Too many games do very similar things for it not to have some effect on your players.

BootyGod March 20 2009 10:10 AM EDT

PS (Sorry for double post)

I know Flamey wasn't actually requesting information on upcoming changes. That was only in my post because it seemed such a natural thing to include and could only help the game. I tried to make it clear in my first post, but I thought I'd clarify.

Neo Japan March 20 2009 10:22 AM EDT

Jon does A LOT for us, and I don't think we need to make him do more. Plus, I can see this as," Hey Jon! Add ______ To your list would ya?" or, "You should totally fix ________ before fixing ________." and we don't need the players telling Jon how to RULE HIS WORLD!!!!!

Sorry for not agreeing. Not a bad Idea, but doesn't seem important enough to do.

QBRanger March 20 2009 10:40 AM EDT

NS,

I do have to agree with Dude on this.

There are plenty of bugs that can and should be fixed at least to make gameplay easier.

It would be very nice to know if Jon is even attempting to fix/resolve these issues.

In addition, while I personally think the AoJ is great, it has a few bugs/problems that do need attention.

I think what most of us would like, more than anything, is to be included in some loop of information on what is the status of things we have noticed as bugs in the game.

And perhaps a little tease on what is to come.

In the past Jon has played a lot of things very close to the vest. Dude, myself and quite a few others had hope with you becoming his partner there would be a different view from the top.

That is of a player who is in the trenches experiencing things such as unfixed bugs etc..

Dude has even referenced a few of the past instances where you have actively sought out information on bugfixes etc...

Now, imagine our frustration at things now that very little apparently has changed.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] March 20 2009 10:43 AM EDT

after six years of interaction with jon, i do not expect him to become something he is not, but have been pleasantly surprised. he seems to be mellowing somewhat even if he remains somewhat distant to the playerbase.

what i have problems with though is a former player who was quite vocal in his own time who now seems to belittle the concerns and chastise the efforts of our playerbase to improve the game. it has blindsided me a bit and shocked me greatly. i will try to contain that in the future and accept that instead of having a player advocate on the dev team we really just have two devs.
