On the topic of music... (in Off-topic)

No intents on spamming Off-Topic, but having read the "Music or Lyrics?" thread, it kind of popped an interesting question.

Everyone has at least one song that they cannot live without. And to get to the question fairly quickly, but what song had the greatest impact in your life? Like one that you can relate with in one way or another. Saying why is optional but not necessary.

For me, its Angel's Son by Sevendust. The lyrics to the song explains the reason well enough lol.

Currently, All or Nothing by Theory of a Deadman is my #1.

The lyrics state how I feel about my girlfriend and I, and when I listen to it, she's all I can think about. (Mind you she's mostly all I think about anyways).

Just a great song my friend showed me a couple months ago that has really opened up my eyes.

Animals-Pink Floyd.

I heard it just after reading Animal Farm.

And yes the whole album as it can be construed as one continuous song.

I don't listen to music. So, I can say without a doubt that there is no song out there that I cannot live without.

That's a tough question. If a song is tight, then it resonates with a nerve. An emotion. Nerves and emotions change.

So, I tend to go for internal consistency in a song. A nice bit of irony is cool. That chill a song can give you when something shifts.

One of the cleverest songs I have ever heard is "Three Little Words" by Da Vinci's Notebook. It parodies a style, an artist, and a phrase, all at once. Then, even better than that (by the same artist) is "Title of the Song". Sure, it's mainly comedic, but it's more than that at the same time.

Meta trumps all. By definition.

Reject Yourself by Killswitch Engage

Can't exactly say why, though. It's just my favorite song at the moment (I probably change the song playing to it a half dozen times every time I'm on the computer), but that'll likely change eventually. It always does. But this one'll stay for a while.
