Improving The CB Forums (in Contests)

This is a contest, sponsored by NightStrike, to make the CB community a better one. I'm going to be watching the forums, and when you make a qualified post, you'll be rewarded.

What qualifies your post?

1) Helpful. Being helpful pays off! This is an optional qualifier.
2) Literate. If you have a good vocabulary, use it! Posts so wordy as to be unreadable will not be rewarded, but well-written, literate posts will be.
3) Tactful. Even if you are literate and helpful, if you say it in a way that pisses people off, you're not getting a reward. Show some tact in the forums, and consider the reaction your post will bring.
4) Enjoyable. Is your post funny? Is it entertaining? That's great, and we appreciate it! This is an optional qualifier.

More than anything, though, I'll simply be choosing posts on a case-by-case basis, with these as a basic guideline. So just go out there, make great posts, and wait for the cash to flow in. It's that simple!

I like this contest. Have fun being a forum debater and get payed for it at the same time. This will certainly encourage more posting but at the same time cleaner and more civilized at the same time.

Finally, a purpose for English class.

"Now boys and girls, today we are going to learn about nouns, conjunctions, and how proper use of these things can greatly benefit your networth in the near future."

We will also be learning counting, addition, multiplication and how to create a good strat.

Sort of like the QB thing, which I love, but without the "popularity contest" aspect of it, as some called it.

Ehm children... the base requirement is improving the CB forums, not to boast your knowledge of the English language.


In other words, please stop saying ooh and ahh about how great the contest is and start making suggestions for improvements! :)

Addition / Change:

I'd like to see WTB and WTS split up perhaps.

first we have fines for bad posts, and now anti-fines for "good" posts? when does it end?

To help get the ball rolling, here are three changes that I support:

1. Rolling bonus - The current N*B setup creates a model of disposable characters. The rolling bonus would allow users to catch up to "the herd" without easily surpassing.

2. Restructuring the Black Market - The current Black Market functions only with the BMVG. Without unified voters, it's useless. I would like to have individual votes never expire, and possibly increase the required number of votes per item to keep the economy stable.

3. Tutorial - It's broken. It will likely take a lot of coding time, but it needs to be recreated. I also like the ideas of giving new players the option of turning it off as well as stretching it out to keep new players focused for their first week (possibly with benchmark opponents at 50k mpr, 100k mpr, etc).

And in hindsight, I realize that it has little to do with the forums, but that's my soapbox. :)

As ugly as I think it is, I think bbcode should be supported because I've seen quite a few posts where people accidentally use it.

If you don't know what it is, bbcode is used on a lot of other forums. It looks like this kind of

I think the quote feature would be great at keeping the forums clean and less confusing. Bbcode is a bit more accessible to people than html, so I think it's worth doing since more people will use it.

I don't know if this contest was meant to support making good content posts or to get suggestions for improving the forum.. For a post that promises to reward good posts, it isn't very clear. =P

As I said I think it's ugly too, but some people like using it, and isn't it better to try to be accessible to more people?

I'd rather see what someone intended to post, than the code itself.

I agree add BBCode, if you don't like it then don't use it. Simple.

Perhaps BBCode, but I'd rather that the objects on the "Known Issues" page get fixed first. :)

Btw, you don't have to make your posts in this thread; this is a contest that covers all of CB forums.

For the record, this contest isn't about posting suggestions to improve the forum. It's about making quality posts that will by their nature improve the forum.

What exactly are we rewarded with?

I don't post much on the forums, as I mostly just read what others have to say and try to learn about the game through their posts. It seems like a good idea however, to try and get people to be more civil.

My post about how awesome this thread is was totally legitimate.

I haven't handed out any prizes because I have been (and still currently am) typing from a hotel. When I get home, I'll take the time to go through forums and find worthy posts. Just wanted to make sure nobody thought the contest wasn't going...it is and will be, I'm just currently on a bit of a break. :)
