Minion Hiring: Good/Bad Idea? (in General)

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 16 2009 6:23 PM EDT

I was thinking, would it be wise for me to hire before minion costs got too expensive? I can currently recruit the expensive one for 24.1M. Perhaps slap on a (*cough* 10M NW *cough*) wall set, and train all HP/AP?
Anyone doing 35M loans? ;)

Wait until your NCB ends and watch the price drop.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 16 2009 6:36 PM EDT

buying minions that you don't already have a clear cut understanding of their roll is a bad idea

QBRanger May 16 2009 6:46 PM EDT

"Wait until your NCB ends and watch the price drop."

That is a new one to me.

I had always thought the price was just based on the total xp of your highest xp minion.

I guess one learns something new everyday.

Or SG can just be plain incorrect. I think I know the real answer.

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] May 16 2009 6:47 PM EDT

How I was explained it, Sir Whine-A-Lot, is that the price for new minions is raised for a NCB Team and that while it is based upon the Exp, its higher until the NCB ends.

QBRanger May 16 2009 6:50 PM EDT

Well Mr. Let us disagree with logic:

The cost per minion has nothing to do with NUB/NCB costs.

If you knew the game in reality, you would see that it is only based upon the xp of the highest minion you have.

It has never, ever, in the history of CB, been different for NUB/NCB or regular characters.

QBRanger May 16 2009 6:51 PM EDT

And Marl:

Novice is completely right. Unless you have an idea and reason for buying the minion. I would not.

FailBoat[SG] [Forever Alone] May 16 2009 6:52 PM EDT

Me? Know this game? Bwahaha! Maybe you missed my thread, http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=002l5h . I'm horrid at this game.

thanks for that comment Silva.

Anyways. Don't hire Marl unless you feel like it'll greatly improve your team. Otherwise the 100k-200k boost to MPR will cause a very minimal difference.

Good reasons include:

Needing a tattoo holder.
Needing a new enchantment slot.
A Kill slot if you're a ranged team.

Bad reasons include:
needing a boost in MPR.
minor boost in enchantments.

Marl: I've been wondering this same thing for quite a while. My expensive choice would be 53 million atm, probably 55 mil in a short while or 24 mil for cheap choice...

it would be another kill slot and 2nd enchanter but I'm wondering if I should make that choice even...

QBRanger May 16 2009 7:14 PM EDT

Going from 1 minion to 2, if not using a ToA is a huge benefit.

You get a tattoo holder and you get to use all the good items for you main minion.

Going from 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 is less advantageous.

QBRanger May 16 2009 7:20 PM EDT

I can give you what happened when I bought minion 2.

I got only 500k or so level DM, not the biggest thing. Especially since I hired the cheaper one at 28M vs 72M for the more expensive one.

But for my main minion...

I now use a AoM, TSA, and EC.

My strength went from 5.2M to 8.4M. My dex from 3M to 3.3M.
I also get close to 300k a round regeneration from the TSA. AND another 70 or so AC, which is addition virtual HP.

So in addition to the other minion/kill slot, I get 3M+ levels of strength free, with all the xp that would have taken.

The only reason I would hire a 3rd minion is to be able to use a corn on an enchanter and get another 1.7M levels of DM with a kill slot. Not something I would do in the long run.

why wouldn't you hire for expensive version? It's more MPR

{WW]Nayab [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 16 2009 7:43 PM EDT

SK, you might not get the expensive version because it is expensive :)

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] May 16 2009 7:53 PM EDT

I was thinking it would be a great help vs. tanks, which I have a bunch of trouble with.
Probably not such a smart idea, though.

BadFish May 16 2009 11:03 PM EDT

If you're not absolutely 100% positive about hiring a new minion, don't do it. There's absolutely zero harm in waiting, concentrating exp onto your current minions, and not spending tens of millions of CBD. You can only hire a minion once. Actually, you can hire infinite times by firing minions, but you can only hire once and not be an idiot.

Demigod May 16 2009 11:33 PM EDT

"you can only hire once and not be an idiot." That made me laugh. Such a soft touch. :)
