Would be cool: A CB Bank (in General)

Dave's The Man June 9 2009 2:18 AM EDT

I just had this idea that has probably been discussed many times, but I feel it is somewhat an actual idea by looking at the "services" forum:

A business, the CB Bank, where:
- People who has money to spare could deposit it here and get interests based on the amount and time deposited
- People who need money could ask for a loan, but only by putting in "warranty" some items they own of equal or superior networth of the asked loan (tattoos excluded I guess...) and by paying a small interest themselves, all this as long as enough money has been deposited by the ones with extra CBDs

This would be far less complicated than loaning services provided by Nem and that other guy (sry, I just forgot the name), for both parties, and would seem like a nice addition to CB. But I also know this would mean more job to do for the admins :-)

Ho well, just a thought.

We've been through a the banking system many times before :S

three4thsforsaken June 9 2009 2:48 AM EDT

heard it pretty much destroyed the economy in CB1. Let's not let that happen again.

Just take out a loan from Nem, it's not complicated at all. It might get complicated for him, but that's not your problem ;)

There was a bank in CB1 but jon removes it (after many nerfs) because it wasn't good for the economy

The bank in CB1 was completely different. It was just a "put in money, get out more money a week later" deal. Here, you can even make the bank a money sink by having it charge a portion of the interest.

it shouldn't give interest unless someone borrowed it. and you put money in, someone ask to borrow, and you have to ACCEPT before it is transferred, and tracks interest etc.

The only way I could see this being implemented is if it worked just like rentals do now. The only thing is this seems like a lot of work to actually change nothing.

Conan, you what ruined the CB1 economy back then? USD influence. And hardly any cash sinks and high rewards

Dave's The Man June 9 2009 10:35 AM EDT

As I understood it, it ruined the economy because the interests came out of the game itself, therefore generating extra money for nothing, which of course only promotes inflation. But, if it were to be in a way that only money that has been given by players was to be loaned to others that have collaterals to be taken by the bank (resold or whatever) if the debt is not paid in time, and if the "profits" were to be made the same way bank do today, i.e. bigger interests to pay than interests given, no inflation would come out of this because it would be a stable system, even if money was easier to access.

Dave: as far as I know, banks in CB1 were just from users playing. The interests were paid and gotten by users, not the system.

It died out because of people abusing other people and loaning money, then selling out...

we had a cb run bank shade. you would get weekly interest i believe. so you put it in for a time period and at the end you got back principle plus interest.

it was tweaked by jon over time until you could put in only a very limited amount, 1m cb or somesuch and then it was dropped altogether at some point.

AdminShade June 9 2009 12:04 PM EDT

oh right, now I remember. wow that's a long time ago...

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] June 9 2009 12:12 PM EDT

that's no excuse! especially given that you are near half my age, hehe. ; )

A bank system I'd like is this:
Take a loan from the CB bank. You have a debt to the bank limited by X factors (Half MPR, something like that). you pay back your debt via reduced rewards. The longer you hold a debt, the bigger the reduction in prizes is. So if you hold a debt to the CB bank for 60 days of the last 60 (for example), you'll be getting basically enough rewards to cover healing and the rest is paying off the debt.
It would probably be best to limit use of this to players over a certain size, as new players could do it and get discouraged at a lack of money :D

I don't know. I've always wanted a tax-like debt repayment system in CB for some weird reason.

Sorry if this is a bit badly written; I am pretty tired :(

Warlod Daz just made me think of a perfect system:
(as I said before:)

Which is as I said before plus;

- A limited amount of money per player can be deposited. This would take care of the problem of "all power in a few hands".
- As Warold said, debt would be primarily paid by "taxing" winnings, and can also be paid in advance directly.
- And a precision to the kind of item to be put in warranty: rares only also. These items would be taken by the bank and sold for the "bank's profit" in the auctions.

No inflation would come of all this because the amount of money going out would be regulated by the money already in, and the small inflation that can result from having a system where money is easier to access will be balanced by the difference in given and taken interests.

Plus, all this would actually stabilize the economy because the (rare) occasions where an item is sold for a lot less than it's value (despite central Bank's efforts) will be even rarer since money will be accessible to those who know the value of the item in question. Basic economy 101

But we still need to see that it might not be worth the work I guess...
