The difference between virtuality and life is very simple. In a construct you know everything is being run by an all-powerful machine. Reality doesnï¾’t offer this assurance, so itï¾’s very easy to develop the mistaken impression that youï¾’re in control.

“The myth holds us, therefore, not through its romantic flavor, not the remembrance of beauty of some bygone age, not through the possibilities of fantasy, but because it expresses to us something real and existing in ourselves, as it was to those who first stumbled upon the symbols to give them life." - Mark Rothko

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." – C. S. Lewis

Another one that really gets me inspired in the quote from Goodfellas.

The one about Joe Pesci being a clown.

It is certainly not PG, but if you google it, you would understand.

Best to see the movie if you have not, it is one of the best gansta films made. IMO, as good if not better than The Godfather.

If you are doing what is right but are getting kicked by everyone else then guess who's leading the pack......saw it in a movie I can't remember which one but I thought it funny.

The one that Inspires me the most though is this:

Forgiveness like truth will set you free but it will hurt to do it. Your Pride, your Dignity, and your Selfishness will be what hurts the most, but Freedom is worth so much more than momentary pain.

I heard this in a speech when I was a kid, I cannot for the life of me remember the speaker but I will never forget that line. It ingrained itself in my mind, and has been a guiding force in my life.

Nice one, I still say this everything something unexpected happens that sucks.

Is it dude? I thought it was man. I always say man, but I haven't watched the movie in like 4-5 years :| either way man flows better.

Puppet Master: As a sentient life form, I hereby demand political asylum.
Chief Aramaki: Is this a joke?
Nakamura: Ridiculous! It's programmed for self-preservation!
Puppet Master: It can also be argued that DNA is nothing more than a program designed to preserve itself. Life has become more complex in the overwhelming sea of information. And life, when organized into species, relies upon genes to be its memory system. So man is an individual only because of his own undefinable memory. But memory cannot be defined, yet it defines mankind. The advent of computers and the subsequent accumulation of incalculable data has given rise to a new system of memory and thought, parallel to your own. Humanity has underestimated the consequences of computerization.
Nakamura: Nonsense! This is no proof at all that you're a living, thinking life form.
Puppet Master: And can you offer me proof of your existence? How can you, when neither modern science nor philosophy can explain what life is?

Demigod July 7 2009 6:11 PM EDT

3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Watch them clamber, these swift monkeys! They clamber over one another and thus drag one another into the mud and the depth. They all want to get to the throne, that is their madness as if happiness sat on the throne. Often mud sits on the throne and often also the throne on mud. Mad they all appear to me, clambering monkeys and over ardent. Foul smells their idol, the cold monster, foul they smell to me altogether, these idolators.

Browsing through the quotes on IMDb about GoodFellas, I found this one I thought was funny:

Henry Hill: Ah, I'm a union delegate.

Doctor: "It changes color when exposed to certain gases I'm allergic to."
