Question for Jon and/or NS: (in General)

Can you please give the community some hint as to the reason a drop system was enacted?
This would help clear a lot of the misinformation about this system that is currently in the forums.
Also, some knowledge of why such a system was put in place would go a long way in perhaps stemming the growing tide of frustration people are feeling about this system.
Thanks in advance.
I bet it was put in for fun. I think it was fun. It was just the rebalancing afterwards that wasn't so fun...

Fun for whom?
Seems there is more frustration than fun for most people.
However I would really like Jon or NS to give their view on this feature instead of us just guessing.

Fun for us, I expect.
I somehow doubt they put it in place thinking "man, I bet they'll HATE this!"

Jon has always been rather vague about why he does or doesn't do things. He generally likes to sit back and let us figure out the changes, chiming in occasionally to steer us towards the real reason. That's just the way Jon operates, and we have all come to expect it.
The lack of input over the last couple of months however is rather disturbing, and it will be interesting to see what comes out, if anything, in the next few days/weeks.
I think things around here are coming to a critical juncture, and the player base may suffer if something isn't done.

What if you didn't know about the 20% drop in cash rewards? Say our rewards were always at what they are now and the new drop system enacted out of nowhere (or he were to cut rewards on changemonth, then add drops the next). Where's the frustration there? Sure, you're not gaining steady reliable income as fast... But... *opens up the bag so that the cat can come out* Everybody else took the same cut to their rewards =-O
If cash is too low as it currently is, adress that. But to put it simply, the biggest correlation between the new drop system and the cash rewards being cut is that they happened at the same time...

Well
1. If there were drop only items it would make way more sense
2. Ba cost has yet to be tweaked(because buying ba doesnt exactly give you more money)
i really don't understand how anyone can expect jon to come in and decrease costs after cutting rewards. what would that accomplish that just leaving rewards as they were wouldn't?
i do think, just as i stated in the changelog thread for drops that if someone is really that concerned about it being a zero sum event or not, they should have started tracking money in the game at that time to see what happened and how the change affected liquid and non-liquid assets as well as global net worth.
if anyone started tracking it, i have never seen any results but that is likely what would be needed to get some type of adjustment.

I miss camping. Maybe it's a sort-of way to bring it back, but to eliminate the full-time campers/scripts that camp for you as well as inducing people to focus on fighting rather than forging.

Bast wins...I guess?
Very eloquent, dear.

And dudemus...yeah, we should do this and we should do that...wait, what?
There's no apparent reason the change should have taken place in the first place. So, no. I'm not going to quit my job and quit my life in order to crunch numbers to show how retarded this change is. The burden of proof isn't on me, in this case. When the creators change the game for no good reason, with no proven upside, I do believe they need to sell the crowd on it. Not vice versa.

things are what they are. regardless of what has transpired you are now wanting a change to the system. i was merely offering a suggestion to help those who think this has not been a zero sum event.
if copying & pasting three numbers in spreadsheet daily or weekly for a month or two would truly hinder your career or chances at having a life feel free to continue living it to its fullest, i know where you could also save quite a bit of time as well. ; )

"It _is_ fun!" - Bast
Seconded
I agree with Bastykins, but I think that's just 'cause I'm in love with her.
Fun is subjective. ;)
Balanced in a strategy game it isn't. Unless we want more randomness to our strategy. In which case I'd like FoD back. ;)

Less than 24 hours since this thread started and they haven't responded!!! Oh noes!!! They have abandoned the game!!!
Seriously though, I too would love to hear a response from them about the drop system, and I know its been enacted for some time, but do we really need people to update that they haven't responded? They respond when they respond.

Yep, dude, that would take too much time. I'm not sure what part of "any more work than zero" folks don't understand. *smile*
I also understand things "are what they are". That's why I am speaking up against it -- I "am what I am", too.

Calm down people, we all know NS is away so he simply cannot reply.
And Jonathan is busy also, why be so persistent?

they are persistant because they're frustrated. not so much with the game itself but with the lack of feedback and the uneasy feeling around here.
I'm not uneasy. Are you uneasy? No anxiety on my end at all. None whatsoever.
*chuckles nervously*
