And I feel the following movie suggestion will be rejected, but I really could not live without such a masterpiece:

Rambo IV. Awwwww yeah. Mentioning it just made me pregnant, and I'm not even a woman.

Timeline

Animation:
Shrek
Sinbad legend of the seven seas
Pixar 'Ice Age 1-3 ' + newer one I hear is good - Pizar anything really for animation, besides Anime they are very clever.

Do you like Musicals??
'Newsies' with Christian Bale as a teen
plus older ones ;;
Sound of Music, Mary Poppins
Lion King etc.

RaptorX October 21 2009 3:56 PM EDT

Oh 1 more; The Count of Monte Christo.
similar in story to "the man in the Iron mask" (which is also a great story) OK 2 more :P

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 21 2009 4:02 PM EDT

Pixar did not create Ice Age, Raptor. Also, I think you mean "The Dark Knight"?

RedWolf October 21 2009 4:15 PM EDT

Miracle at St. Anna

Surprisingly it only has a rating of 5.9 on IMDb... I would give it at least an 8. One of the best movies I've seen in a while.

Kompton Kidd October 21 2009 4:28 PM EDT

The Little Mermaid

RaptorX October 21 2009 4:51 PM EDT

Humm .. You're right!! -- Just checked my copy Thanks. . Anyway Pixar is still awesome , But Blue Sky is also pretty awesome.

Push
13th Warrior
Ghost Dog, Way of the Samurai

BootyGod October 22 2009 4:48 AM EDT

Seriously, get Starship Troopers. Best. Movie. Evuh. <.<

Kung-Fu Hustle was.... Fantastic. An odd movie, but simply awesome. Never seen a movie where you wanted to laugh and cry at the same time (Lollipop scenes are heartbreakingly hilarious sometimes)

Any of the Disney movies should be seen by someone at least once.

Into Bollywood stuff? (Not sure if it's actually SPELLED Bollywood, but that's how it's pronounced!) If you aren't, blah. If you are, great! If you don't know what it is, get

Kal Ho Na Ho. May be all one word or something. Sad movie, but pretty goood despite being Bollywood.

Random movies:

Crash
300
American History X
Fight Club
Saving Private Ryan
Independance Day
The Die Hard movies are all fantastic. All of them.
Matrix
Lord of the Rings (I know you have it :P)
Star Wars movies (First three just for the combat scenes, the last 3 just for historical sake)
District 9 when it comes out (Seriously. Fantastic stuff)
Gladiator
All the Hannibal movies have some good stuff. Bit gruesome (Saw is just dumb. Hannibal... Ahh... Remorsely Sadism at its best.... Or is it worst?)
Black Sheep (There are two of these. One of them is a comedy. One of them is NOT. They're both good flicks, but.... Stick with the comedy if you don't like gore :P)
Kill Bill (1 and 2)
Predator
Alien
The Dark Knight
SLumdog Millionaire
Gran Torino
The Pursuit of Happiness
Happy Feet
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
iRobot
I Am Legend
V for Vendetta
Farenheit 911 and Bowling for Columbine if you can stomach Michael Moore. His opinions and his portrayal of events are not as.... Fair and open minded as he'd have you believe, but there ARE some good points.
Shaun of the Dead (SERIOUSLY. GET THIS MOVIE. Rofl. Cricket bat to the head!)
All the HP movies are good if you like the books (If you don't know what HP stands for in this context, you won't like them :P)
Big Fish
Feed (This is a disturbing movie. If ANYTHING on this list up to now gave you pause, don't watch it. But I included it because if you can handle it, it's a good flick)
Secondhand Lions
School of Rock
Titanic
Catch Me If You Can
Men in Black
The Patriot
A Beautiful Mind
The Butterfly Effect
Saving Silverman
Erin Brockovich (Someone spellcheck this)
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
The Whole Nine Yards
Pay it Forward
Patch Adams
The Truman Show
As Good As It Gets
The Fifth Element
Good Will Hunting
Jurassic Park (I'm all about watching complete series, but you won't be missing much if you only watch the first one here)
Michael
Phenomenon
Tin Cup
Big Daddy
Happy Gilmore
Braveheart
Forrest Gump
Philadelphia
Space Jam
The Shawshank Redemption
Mrs. Doubtfire
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Robin Hood - Men in Tights (Hold on, bad guys.)
Schindler's List
Searching for Bobby Fischer
Edward Scissorhands
Sister Act
Back to the Future
Pretty Woman
Deerhunter
The Hunt for Red October
The Witches

Okay. I'm tired. I could have tons more for you, but I think THOSE should keep you busy ( I tried to make it so most of the ones, unless marked otherwise, are just all around good movies and could be liked by anyone, so if you don't know what a movie is, you'll probably enjoy parts of it. )

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 22 2009 5:10 AM EDT

"The Die Hard movies are all fantastic. All of them."

Number 4 sucked. Hard!

It was just a poor ego vehicle for an old Bruce Willis.

On the other hand, Die Hard 1 is awesome. ;)

QBJohnnywas October 22 2009 6:18 AM EDT

The Prestige.

A Christopher Nolan (the new Batman films) film starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine. One of my favourite films of the past ten years by far, about stage magicians in the Victorian era. Don't read anything else about it, or let anybody tell you about it. Just watch it.

And please anybody else: no spoilers. If you saw it and liked it and feel the need to talk about it CM me. :)

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 22 2009 6:31 AM EDT

"Star Wars movies (First three just for the combat scenes, the last 3 just for historical sake)"
I heard the sound of a million fanboys cry out, then, silence. (Imo, watch the first 3 because they complete the story -- you don't actually have to enjoy them -- watch the final 3 because they're awesome without compare. Especially 4 & 5.)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 22 2009 6:33 AM EDT

The Prestige! Was awesome!

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 22 2009 6:39 AM EDT

By-the-way, great list, GW. ;)

BootyGod October 23 2009 4:20 AM EDT

Dude, number 4 Die Hard movie was fantastic. People are just haters. News flash. Just because something wasn't made before you became an adult doesn't make it bad!

And I had TONS more movies. I completely left out anything animated to save time.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2009 5:53 AM EDT

When it was made has nothing to do with it. Current movies I love are Push and The Prestige, for example.

DH4 sucked. Utterly. It had not a single reedeming feature. The acting was attrocious and the plot non existent.

It was barely better than The Island...

It was a worn, tied out cash in, by an industry that has run out of ideas and is eating itself alive. Driven only by the past glories of the former series, and Bruce Willis ego.

QBJohnnywas October 23 2009 5:58 AM EDT

I think I'm one of the few people that like The Island. I really enjoyed it. It was trash, but very watchable.

Might have had something to do with Scarlett mind you...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2009 6:11 AM EDT

O_O

Oh good god no!

Johnny, we must save you! The Island is probably the worst film I have ever watched, maybe edged out by Congo or House Sitter, but I'm not sure as I fell asleep during both of those, and they might have had some reedeming features I missed...

Even Scarlet as a distraction (and a mighty fine one at that! :P) couldn't save The Island! ;)

QBJohnnywas October 23 2009 6:27 AM EDT

Congo? With the talking gorilla?....I enjoyed that too...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2009 7:26 AM EDT

Aye, that's the one... ;)

IndependenZ October 23 2009 10:58 AM EDT

I can't believe these were not mentioned before but...

La Haine
Spartacus
Ben Hur
Sin City
Trainspotting
Snatch
The Boondock Saints
L.A. Confidential
Revolver (okay only if you're into Guy Ritchie)
The Fast And The Furious (parts 2, 3 and 4 ONLY if you're into cars, and I know you are so...)
Gone In 60 Seconds
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Wargames
The Breakfast Club
Go!
The Mexican
Arlington Road
The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers
Lucky Number Slevin
The Football Factory
Hooligans
Bend It Like Beckham
We Were Soldiers
Once Were Warriors
Shutter (the original one, from 2004, not the Hollywood remake)

And, if you want to laugh at historical errors:
Troy
Alexander
Kingdom of Heaven

I can probably tell you more, but can't think of any at the moment. I keep a list of movies I have seen (and liked) on IMDb so we can swap lists if you want :P

Admiralkiller [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 26 2009 2:44 AM EDT

=)

Lochnivar October 26 2009 4:21 AM EDT

I'll agree with kev on Second Hand Lions... very enjoyable.

Seriously, 35yrs from now that will be my brother an I.

As for other movies, I'll vouch for the usual suspects:
Shawshank (in hindsight it should have cleaned up at the Oscars)
The Usual Suspects (of course)
Last of the Mohicans (perhaps the best line ever is in this movie)
> Duncan: There is a war on. How is it you are headed west?
> Hawkeye: Well, we kinda face to the north and real sudden-like turn left.

.... moving on,
Man on Fire (Danzel is a bad dude)
Jaws (the first one)
Ronin (who gets ambushed by a cup of coffee?!?)
Unforgiven

.... aw crap, I need sleep....

I'll add more later I guess

OK, since they came out in reverse order of what number they are: 4 5 6 then 1 2 and 3, which ones do you like the best the old ones with the now 'cheesy' effects or the newer ones with up to date effects and better acting? But, that said, I probably like the 4 5 6 series best maybe because of the story line and Harrison Ford's acting when he was young , but also because when they came out they were the most awesome movies ever made. And I remember that. sigh the 80's . Yes BTW I am old - er.

QBJohnnywas October 26 2009 9:14 AM EDT

Old? I saw Star Wars, before it was episode 4, on the big screen in 1978. I've never been the same since....

RaptorX October 26 2009 9:30 AM EDT

/me is Johwas's pal now. :) Shall we spit shake on it? Smile.
I guess you like the 'older' Star Wars movies too. Cool. I was about 15 at that time. Oh that was so cool. The first movie that anyone EVER stood in line to see, as I recall.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] October 26 2009 10:22 AM EDT

<rage>1, 2, and 3 were intensely soulless. (Special effects notwithstanding, and the acting was far better in 4/5.)

The Phantom Menace is for all intents and purposes the worst Star Wars film ever. (In the "actual" series, of course. There *are* worse ones, but I'd rather not talk about them.)

Attack of the Clones was decent.

Revenge of the Sith had to be the most melodramatic movie I've ever seen (sorry random Hallmark "original films").

</endrage>

Ah, well, we all have different tastes, I suppose.

First of all, thank you for all the suggestions.
Second, please refrain from using things like - or 1, 2, 3 in front of your list of movies, will only bother me :p
Third, if you want to comment on movies, please do that a few lines above or below your list...

Anyway, I've put up the lists of movies in my first post according to what I could copy / paste. All of them are on alphabetical order.

AdminShade October 26 2009 4:26 PM EDT

p.s. if you see a movie in the lists which is incorrect (spelling wise), please let me know :)

RaptorX October 26 2009 4:36 PM EDT

I just wanted to say, It is neat to see other tastes being so different. I would probably like most of his edit's picks a ton, but he picked "The Nightmare before Christmas" - which I thought was possibly ingenious in it's originality, but just odd. I know people like them though since they keep doing sequels etc, Though maybe that isn't a good measuring stick. for Example; Rambo was good at the time but they did lots of marginal sequels to that, same with and Rocky. But sometimes sequels (Rocky 3) are just plain bad. Maybe I just get tired of his raspy voice and pronunciation.
BTW - I also like 'The Island' . Great chases, cool vehicles as well as dreamy Scarlett and a first kiss. "That tongue thing is amazing!" her reply - 'oh, Shut Up.'

The first 2 are Jet Li's greatest films imho and Jason Statham is a bit of a legend.
The second Crank only really stops the first being a complete cliffhanger as there's not much different from the first, both hilarious films though.

Nightmare on Elm Street

I don't see any of the franchise on your list. Classics of their time.
I was about to say that if you watch one then you've really got to watch them all but that was before I googled and realised there had been eight movies in total.
I can remember three or four of them and would suggest a night in with your mates, a few beers, a chinese or indian meal and a little Freddy - perfect !

Great movie.

I just saw the Count of Monte Cristo... holy crap it was awesome!

How about The Goonies, Shade? You ever saw that one? LUV IT

And Confidence... it's a gem of a flic

I also liked 16 blocks with Bruce Willis, I saw recently.

Ya I love 'The Count of Monte Christo' - sword fights, realism, the imprisonment and the love vs power dynamic and great plot twists.

Have you seen 'Man in the Iron Mask' ? It's a somewhat similar story but a different view. Gripping. Leonardo Decaprio - but still good. :)

Old Western: favorite, with John Wayne:

True Grit

You must be mistaken.

Saw a movie last night on DVD - Drag me to Hell.

Its a Scary one - about a gipsy curse - ending a little predictable but some great moments along the way.

Grosse Point Blank

My all time favourite film that one, sharply funny, great music, great cast, excellent dialogue. I never ever tire of it.

Thinking about going to get the Mad Max Trilogy, =) 4th is coming out in 2011.

And Rob Roy (Searched for it because a buddy on xbox live's name has RobRoy in his name). Liam Neeson, and it has a 6.8/10 on imdb.

Just to help tidy up the lst a little, Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai is one movie. ;)

Awesome black comedy about an american kids enraptured about Japanese culture saved from a beating by a Mafia hitman. The kid then swears his life to the Mafia geezer, serving him like a Samurai.

Years later, the mafia decide to set him up on a job, and he goes to take revenge on 60 year old, overweight, balding mafia hitmen. ;)
