weren't named tats fixed... (in General)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 16 2009 11:00 PM EST

to where they start growing at the correct level now or could that have reverted with the server change?

my mtl just went back above my tat on my ncb but the tat doesn't seem to be growing! ; (

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] November 16 2009 11:02 PM EST

train just to make sure. But, yes this was changed.

QBRanger November 16 2009 11:03 PM EST

The change was to make your MTL increase by 4% if your equipped tattoo is named.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 16 2009 11:06 PM EST

tried training, no luck! i did unequip my tat and reequip it and my mtl changes accordingly, perhaps it is just a display issue that needs to "catch up".

AdminShade November 17 2009 1:05 AM EST

It might take a bit for your tattoo to be comfortable enough knowing that it's smaller than your MTL ;p

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 6:58 AM EST

Max tattoo : 7,555,527

grasshopper lvl 7,520,519

I really had hoped that after cache flush it would kick in but it still isnメt growing despite training quite a bit of xp!

MonkeyMandate [Wasting Time] November 17 2009 7:11 AM EST

i think the problem is that the MTL shows the lvl that it will grow at when it exceeds the 4% named effect. so when your MTL is 7821339.76, your tattoo should grow

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 7:15 AM EST

that used to be the case, but increasing mtl by 4 percent when tats are named should have made that a wash, no?

AdminNightStrike November 17 2009 7:15 AM EST

There's no problem as I see it.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 7:16 AM EST

just to be clear, my tat has been this level since i started my ncb:

7,520,519

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 7:17 AM EST

here is my google spreadsheet showing my tat level since my ncb started:

AdminNightStrike November 17 2009 7:38 AM EST

Dude, there's no issue... Your MTL goes up by 4% when you equip the tattoo. That doesn't mean that your tattoo will always grow. Your MTL still has to get to 7,821,340 (after the 4% boost that *is* displayed) until it will grow.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 7:50 AM EST

hmm, i thought the fix actually corrected the issue most of us had which is that we get penalized for naming our tats when running bonus characters as we lose growth. we had asked for a fix rather than to have to just stop naming them or asking for a way to transfer that name to something else.

i guess i misunderstood what exactly the fix you implemented was supposed to be adressing?

AdminNightStrike November 17 2009 7:56 AM EST

You got exactly what you asked for.

Sickone November 17 2009 7:59 AM EST

Your tattoo base level is 7,520,519.
This means that after naming, its actual level is 7,821,339 (or maybe 7,821,340, not exactly suce how it is rounded).

Your MTL displays as 7,555,527 with the named tattoo equipped, which means that WITHOUT it equipped it would display 7,264,929 (or 7,264,930, again, not sure on rounding).

NO NAMING:
MTL 7,264,929 ; tattoo 7,520,519

WITH NAMING:
MTL 7,555,527 ; tattoo 7,821,339

You _are_ getting the 4% bonus, but tattoo will only grow when its base level reaches your base MTL level... or, if you prefer, its modified level reaches the modified MTL level.
In other words - working as intended.

kevlar November 17 2009 8:08 AM EST

dudemus September 11 1:33 PM EDT to put it another way. you pay your money to get that bonus. if you ever do an ncb run, then the bonus is pretty much gone as you then worked past when your tat should start growing again for the same amount as the bonus.

the naming bonus on tats should make the tat have the higher effect with the bonus but for everything else it should still function at the actual level. the actual level is still stored in the game under the item stats, it shouldn't be that difficult to make it function correctly.
-------------------
The 4% increase to MTL negated the bonus to the levels, so it does function as if nothing changed as far as growth is concerned. (If I understand it correctly)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 8:45 AM EST

"You got exactly what you asked for."

i could have sworn that the community asked for the naming penalty to be removed actually.

in effect:

~ naming items is pure profit for the devs

~ a game mechanic actually penalizes people for naming what many would consider the most important item in the game

~ as businessmen, should you discourage people from giving you money?

what i remember people asking for is that tats would act as if they are boosted by naming but their actual level would be used in the formula with the mtl to determine growth.

when you changed it so that the mtl got a bonus from naming, i never ran the numbers and assumed that you were removing the penalty as that is what we asked for or alternately a way we could transfer our naming to another item so that we werent' penalized by our "donation".

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] November 17 2009 8:47 AM EST

Dude, you're not being penalized. Say your tat is 2M BEFORE naming. Your MTL is really lower than 2M, it's just bumped a little above it because of the 4% increase it is getting. If you want to know whether or not your tat will level, take it off and compare that MTL to the tats level.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 17 2009 8:56 AM EST

thanks titan, i think i understand now and see that i am not being penalized and apologize for jumping the gun. basically, if my tat was unnamed it wouldn't be growing now anyway as it would still be higher than my mtl.

the way things are displayed makes it very difficult to see what exactly is going on.

my apologies nightstrike, didn't mean to waste your time.

we may need a wiki entry clarifying how this works unless i am the only one who had trouble understanding it! ; )
