Suggestion : botcheck display, make it "floating" (in General)

No idea how many of you forge, but this last tournament kind of makes you want to forge even a little.
One of the most annoying things with forging however is the way botchecks are displayed while forging.

So, I was wondering... would there be ANY chance of the botchecks to be "improved" by having them display the same way the "get more (BA)" window is now displayed ?
You know, getting an extra layer on top of the current page, so you can still see most of the old page data while you enter your response ?

People that fight might not really care all that much, but forgers, I bet they'd love it.

I don't see where the problem lies, I don't have a problem with the current system.

It's not a "problem" per se, just a minor convenience issue.

Most experienced forgers would probably keep a good count of when they need to stop quenching, for instance, and would not be easily distracted by a small interruption like a botcheck screen... but a novice forger might get confused as to whether the RPM increased or not between his action selection and the post-botcheck-screen, since the old RPM number was no longer visible as soon as the botcheck appeared.

That would break CB for many phones...

Just curious, how do you buy BA on phones then ?
Do you wait until you get to a PC ?

As I used to understand it, the game already checks your "browser agent" or what's it called and already displays slightly different versions of the game on mobile phone browsers compared to PC browsers.

I have used the buy BA link once on my phone from here:

Experience forgers just know how much to heat. The bot checks don't make a slight bit of difference :)

I only count the first time through. After that you just stop at the proper color.

Just look for the RPM change, not that hard imho

The "Buy BA" link, as well as a few other prompts, are just a GetInput() type of thing (I don't know the function's specific name in this environment), sort of like a glorified OK/Cancel dialog. that simple. So, I am not sure what a pop-out bot check would do on a phone such as the iPhone...

And that was my point - it's a bit hard to keep an eye on the RPM count when the botcheck obscures it.
You know, especially when either "this or the next" spent BA will increase the RPM, but you don't remember exactly which one was it... and you forget how much the RPM was at before the botcheck appeared so you have to either re-count the steps in the log (if even possible and you're not forging with a very long chain of identical commands, unless you remember the "color" it's supposed to be at a certain step) or hope that when you press back you get a cached page with the old RPM (in case it indeed change).

Like I said, not a tragedy, enough possibilities exist to find out if you lost your count or whatnot, it would just be a bit more convenient if the botcheck would not obscure the old RPM completely.

... well, that, or maybe also list the RPM in the forge logs instead ?
:)

So, just take out all the challenge of forging? Just go use fex's script.

AdminShade February 4 2010 3:01 PM EST

In my opinion forging is the single most easy thing to do in Carnage Blender. I have been forging off and on in both CB1 and CB2 and I really think it does not need yet more simplification. :)

A botcheck cannot really work in a prompt box as it cannot display pictures so it would be too easy to get away from it by bots.

It would require a couple javascript functions to make it do like a lightbox or something, but then again too much work for so little.
