Game - Shakes and Fidget (in Off-topic)
Demigod
July 16 2010 7:27 PM EDT
For those interested, dudemus and I are playing a game called Shakes and Fidget. It's a casual game that doesn't require much time to play each day, and we've started a guild. Hop on over and if join us.
Here's the generic link:
http://s1.sfgame.us/index.php
If you want to use one of our referrals, just CM myself or dudemus.

It looks like you'll have to get an invite to join the guild. Just CM me your game name and I'll shoot you an invite.
it is a pretty cool game. if i was doing it all over again i would concentrate on money reward quests rather than xp ones as you use money to up your skills other than small automatic skill ups when you level.
i would also save all of my mushrooms for drinking at the bar to allow you to do more quests. i wasted a dozen or so just skipping timers. ; (
find out what your main attribute is and put most of your money into that or in combination with your constitution.
check your stores each day for dungeon keys or really good gear! visit the city guard when done for a while to make more money whilst away.

Fair warning to all -- As you hack and slash your way through this game, you'll feel a familiar breeze against your bits and pieces. Just like in CB, you can equip gloves, boots, helmets, and other items... but not pants.
rofl..... oh man make me fall out of my chair... "bits and pieces"
I've been playing it for a while. And yes, Dude is correct. Do quests for the biggest chunks of gold before the biggest chunks of experience. You'll need money far more than XP. Also, focus on three stats with your money. Primary Damage, Str for Warrior, Int for Mages, Dex for Rogues. Constitution for HP and Luck for Crit.
Quite honestly, this is the way I could of seen CB going.
if you do not have a guild, princess, we would love to have ya. post your screen name over there and we will get you in. we have four of us in there now chatting!
Congratulations
Your chatmail priviledges have been revoked indefinitely. Have a nice day.
I love that message.
Character name Merikah.
Also! Mushrooms are your greatest resource. Hold onto them and use them to buy really good pieces of gear from the shops. Otherwise, just hold onto them, don't use them to speed things up.

Throw an invite at AbbathorX if you can. My 2 hours of playing experience will surely come in handy ;p
'tis done...atm we can only fit ten in our guild and we now have six. we can upgrade it but it costs a bunch so if ya want in move quickly.
Also, when doing tavern quests, keep your eyes out for keys that unlock dungeons. Once you've finished the quest, go to the dungeon section and it will unlock it automatically.

So i hit the arena button and it said i was being attacked by some lvl 23 guy, which i knew i couldn't beat. And it said i had to fight him or someone i put a name in the box for.
At this point i didn't know i could just click somewhere else to go and skip the fight, I thought i had to name someone or fight a lvl 23 guy.
So I typed in "No one"
Turns out No one is a lvl 1 shmuck with no gear that I waxed fairly easily, go me.
it looks like invites were sent to Wraithlin and sebidach.
that should leave 2 more slots until we reach capacity.

Thanks! Too sad I can't play this game on my mobile, that's a big plus for CBs interface. :)
Wraith, if you were being matched against a 23 at your level, they were terribad. Also, just push the arena button again and it'll give you a new opponent.
the guild is full over there as of now. if we can save up 160g we can upgrade to hold more members so if others like the game and let us know we can move in that direction.
even without a guild it is a very fun game and if we notice others or if you become inactive, let us know and we will kick to make room for others that are active!
Wraithlin
July 17 2010 11:41 AM EDT
it's better to just search for someone to fight and then type them in than use the random matchmaking system.
I'm alot higher rated than my level should be so I have to do that or I get all lvl 10+ people and i'm only 6.
Thats not really surprising. Mages do a lot of damage to make up for their lack of HP.

Even though we're maxed out in the guild, still post your name if you start playing!
Between the 10 of us, we can pretty easily increase the limit and fit more in, it just might take a day or so.
from reading the forum, it would appear that each upgrade of the fortress only gives you one more member slot. the first upgrade is 160 gold. ; (

Btw: What is the plan for the future. Will Demigod's guild be able to stock up memberslots soon, so that we can swap over to you? If yes, then we would not spend any gold for guild upgrades and perhaps save some to bring in to you. If not, then we should probable invest a little bit.
Demigod
July 20 2010 8:00 PM EDT
We'll have to run two guilds. There's no way we can fit even close to all of you guys in ours. Right now, we have 13 members, and it will cost 291 gold to get one more person in. That cost increases every time we add someone. We could save up and get one or two more people in, but I'd hate to imagine the cost after that.
You have 7 in the 2nd guild, meaning you can fit 3 more for free, and a fourth for a tiny bit of gold per clan member. I figure some players will quit the game over time, and we can consolidate clans when that happens. For now, all new players are headed your way.

Im Freekie like everywhere else. Been playing a few days or so but it seems a little slow for my liking.
Demigod
July 23 2010 3:36 PM EDT
If anyone wants to start a third guild, jump on it and invite the others. We've increased the member-limit three times in the first guild, and now the cost is far more than we have.
We can worry about consolidating clans down the road.
How much is the next tier. Im sure i can save up quite a bit in a couple days.
but wee need to get 3 or 4 more people in which guesstimating from the cost of the last few levels would be between 1000 and 1500 gold total.
Demigod
July 23 2010 3:48 PM EDT
It's only 100-some-odd for the 2nd guild... but give me a sec to do a head count...
each upgrade only gives one more guild slot whereas a new guild automatically gives ten slots. it is much more cost effective to open a new guild rather than trying to get others to fit in these especially since more cb'ers are joining by the day.

Hey I was thinking....If gold is more important ....It would be best to go with the quest that has the most gold per second?...vs the one with just the most gold?
that is what i do ak. demi thinks xp is king. i would rather level slowly and spend lots of cash along the way. ; )
Demigod
July 24 2010 8:18 PM EDT
My reasoning is that two of your stats are level-based, and that each level provides better gear and possibly more gold -- though I'm not sure about the last one.
but at level 50 you will still have the same stats and equipment regardless of how fast you got there and fighting another fifty if you can have more gold invested in stats then who will win?
Demigod
July 24 2010 8:25 PM EDT
Probably the guy who's at level 60 because it took longer for the gold farmer to reach level 50.
and since there is such an amazing prize for getting there first...
Lochnivar
July 24 2010 11:12 PM EDT
Wait, there's prizes?
Does increasing your member limit increase your guild level? When your mouse is over treasure it says (level*2)... Is that guild level or am i missing something?
Wow am i totally overthinking this or what?
there are three guild upgrades, one gives more members and increases your fortress levels while the other two increase gold or xp rewards.
Demigod
July 25 2010 6:57 PM EDT
Increasing your Fortress level also makes it more expensive for other guilds to fight you. But the most important part is that more members equals cheaper upgrades per person.

Also, stop wasting shrooms on adventures. :P

Soxjr
July 30 2010 4:25 AM EDT
Ok. big question. Should I use mushrooms as drinks to get 20 more thirst for adventure? I know you can use 10 mushrooms per day to get 200 more so basically 2 full bars for adventuring? Is that worth it? or just when it runs out. Work until the midnight refresh?
Demigod
July 30 2010 4:34 AM EDT
No. Save the shrooms for nice gear in the stores.
i get my gear through quests and cash only store items and save my shrooms for the best mount, 50# timer reduction is da bomb! 25 shrooms gives you 14 days of twice as much thirst for adventure.
if you were buying thirst at the bar it would take 5 shrooms a day to equal that which would be 70 for the same two week period.
; )
So how did those guild wars work? I see some interest in our guild chat.
what is the use of the mounts?
Demigod
July 31 2010 4:41 AM EDT
The mounts reduce the amount of thirst you lose when you fight. Better mounts = more fights per day. I'm using the 30% mount.
And the wars are like the arena. You select a guild to fight from the "honor" list, and you pay a certain amount of gold based on team size (fortress). Fortress 10 costs 150g. Once you've selected a guild war, both your team and theirs will have about 12 hours to log in and click on a button that says "prepare for war." That's it.
Only those who logged in participate, and the war is a series of automatic fights, starting with the lowest level characters and working up as they lose. Last team standing wins, but the earnings aren't really worth it until your bonuses are high. The entertainment of rallying your guild and chatting is better than the earnings.
Demigod
August 3 2010 12:45 AM EDT
If anyone has quit the game, please let your guild leader know so he can remove the character.
Also, it means you have horrible taste in games.
if you were buying thirst at the bar it would take 5 shrooms a day to equal that which would be 70 for the same two week period.
If you are buyig the thirst bar with the 30% mount (one shroom for 2 weeks), it would only cost 3 shrooms a day, or 22 total for the same 2 week period ;)
I might be a little iffy on my play time for a while guys. Moving back to Texas at the end of the week.
Demigod

Nah. They're a pain to get all the time. Just keep saving em up. I generally spend 1 to get the 30% mount so I can do more adventures, and hopefully find more shrooms.

I only played it twice to test it out. The odds don't seem worthwhile.
And it will take us a long time to consolidate the clans. Our next member will cost about half a grand, and it goes up quickly. But we might be able to break it into two clans... I can't log into the game from work, so let me know how many members are in CBIII.
We can see about adding spaces to Jabberwocky and Snicker Snack to pull over everyone at once.
I was thinking about this gold vs xp debate yesterday. I am starting to think that XP (initially) is more important. I am assuming that gold per hour while working is based on lvl and the amount you receive is quite substantial. Once you reach a certain lvl you can use that extra gold on character growth. At the lower lvls the gold gained is so little that gaining the extra lvls sooner outweighs the value of growth early.
Any thoughts or arguments?
Demigod
August 11 2010 4:47 PM EDT
I'm now at lvl 31 or 32 and I've never seen a reason to budge from my stance that EXP is more important.
Gold increases with each level, so slowing down your level (exp) growth just slows down gold in the long run. I can't check right now, but I think I make about 228g per 10-hour shift. And since I've beefed up my three main stats, they cost an average of about 50g each now. If I stuck with gold, it would take me longer to build those stats.
demi and i started about the same time and are now within a level of each other i believe. i have concentrated on gold whilst he on xp. i have made almost 15k where he has made around 9k gold.
i can only speak for myself but i would rather have the stats that come with the higher nw rather than the extra level. ; )

hey demi, i just fought you twice...didn't know we could fight guildmates in the arena but you can if you type in their name!
we are pretty evenly matched, the lucky crit tends to decide it. you won the first and i the second but in both fights the loser would have killed the winner with one more hit.
i guess the real question then is does the one level help ya more than an extra 6k gold?
Demigod
August 12 2010 2:00 PM EDT
It's not an issue of one level. If you and I started at the same time and used the same steed, I'd be somewhere around 4-5 levels higher, which would grant me a win every time.
So in that sense, I much prefer EXP over gold.

I found this game on the Out of BA link a while back when I came by and wrung out 160. I've got a Scout on there named Zubat. Feel free to send him an invite (or toss a pokeball at him, or what have you.)
If we do consolidate 3 into 2 we should see how much money has been spent into clan upgrades and take the 2 with the most spent. Also would be helpful if when a member joined from another clan he/she came with a nice chunk of gold to donate for the cause.
the original plan was to consolidate as we had some go inactive. there have been very few doing that and more coming in all the time. i guess the first order of business is to keep making room in the 3 and if we do ever start shrinking then consolidate?
as for the other two clans total numbers and if the are all active?

ob, since i have gone to putting all my mushrooms in the elite mount, i also pick the shortest time. however, when it comes to several with the same time i then pick gold over xp. ; )
i figure the elite mount is already doubling my thirst and thus quests and also try to max out the chances for getting another shroom. it has been working well so far for me.
QBOddBird
August 14 2010 11:50 AM EDT
Yeah, the elite mount really is nice. Unfortunately, RL caught up to me after I initially purchased it, and so now I'm left with very few shrooms; I'm currently going with the 30% mount and trying to save up to get back on the elite one.
I, too, tend to go with gold over EXP when there are multiple low times, though. Not so much because I think it is a better choice or anything, it's just that I know I'm not going to be the highest level so I don't see why I should push myself beyond my stats to get there.

Mounts are quite important. Which one you get is up to you. I think the sweet spot is the 30% steed, but some of the guys can afford the very expensive 50% one. Basically, they get twice as much thirst every day as a result.

After thinking about how all the classes' work against each other, I'm starting to regret not picking a warrior.
Mages have a 0% evade chance, 9 equipment slots, and up to 10% damage reduction from Armor. They are the high ground in damage dealers, and the low ground in hitpoints.
Scouts have a 50% evade chance, 9 equipment slots, and up to 25% damage reduction from Armor. They are the middle ground in damage dealers, as well as in hitpoints.
Warriors have up to a 25% block chance, 10 equipment sots, and up to 50% damage reduction from armor. They are the low ground in damage dealers, and the high ground in hitpoints.
There's a clear advantage here: Warriors, due to their shield, have one more slot with which they can gain equipment attribute bonuses. They also have the most consistent damage reduction capability, yet still get an evasion (block) chance.
I'm starting to wish I'd picked one. They seem like the most potentially powerful class to me.
i started one on the second server just to try them out.
Minnakht
August 15 2010 7:21 PM EDT
The bonus from a warrior's shield and sword combined is exactly the same as the bonus received from a wand or a bow. It's just split into two items.
Also, Armor doesn't help against mages at all. Neither does block or evade.
Warriors aren't overpowered, every class is perfectly balanced.

I think at my level, the variation must be too great for me to get an accurate view, as I keep seeing people with horribly weak weapons and then extremely strong ones
It does appear, however, that warriors are getting smaller bonuses than the other classes, so you're probably right
Thanks for clearing that up, it just seems like one class getting an extra potential slot for attribute bonuses would make it stronger.
I still am personally feeling like a constant 50% reduction is more useful than a 50% chance evasion. I find that I'm not so much a fan of luck being such a big deciding factor in my fights.

It's interesting, I've been trying to figure out why scouts are supposed to counter warriors.
Each have a 50%+25% multiplicative damage reduction, (Scouts have a 50% evade + 25% armor, and warriors have a 25% block + 50% armor).
It also seems like weapon damage is inversely related to HP.
Scouts have a 4x constitution multiplier while Warriors have a 5x. Scout weapon damage is right around 25% more than warrior damage.
So it looks like it's evenly matched up.
I think it might be something to do with how damage increases every round. Since scouts and warriors can both heavily negate damage, battles are going to be very long, and therefore damage is going to be extremely high during the end of the fight.
Damage at the end of the fight would kill a warrior regardless of his armor, so evasions/blocks are necessary to survive. That's where the scout wins.
QBOddBird
August 16 2010 9:27 AM EDT
So you're saying the evasive property becomes the more important one as the fight goes on due to increasing damage, and that's how the scout gains its advantage?
Looks like the mage with its inability to dodge / undodgeable damage is the c-c-combo breaker here.
Minnakht

Dudemus - Demigod lost because his stats aren't spec'd right.

Minnakht

Don't worry if you don't get any uniques, you can do fine without them. (Just make sure you upgrade your weapon every chance that you have)

I believe that the quality of the game is shown through its interface. If the developers have the time and patience to make their game look nice, then they'll have the time and patience to keep developing and refining their game.
