Tattoo renting is no more (or: how Jon pissed off 8 people a whole lot (in Changelog)

AdminJonathan March 8 2005 5:44 PM EST

- Tattoos are no longer allowed in rentals
- Tattoos currently in rentals will finish out their current rental period; if they are not currently rented, they have one period remaining
- Tattoos may still be exchanged via auctions and transfers; loans continue to cost as much as a permanent transfer

and the second part:
- Tattoos over about 210k (the level the highest PR char could have if he had brought it up without outside help) were reduced to 210k + 1/2 the overage (in xp, not level).

AdminJonathan March 8 2005 5:46 PM EST

And yes, I realize the nerf was inaccurate when judged from "eliminating the xp earned by renting," but there was no way to do better. Additionally, it wouldn't be fair to eliminate it entirely since rental fees were involved.

Becoming March 8 2005 5:48 PM EST

Thank you, oh so very much! :)

Concepter March 8 2005 5:49 PM EST

Finally... I love this change. :)

Alienfb March 8 2005 5:51 PM EST

Thankyou Jon

Now lets play the Tattoos how they should be played. No loans No rentals .

You raise your Tattoo and its level is a true reflection of your own efforts.

QBJohnnywas March 8 2005 5:52 PM EST

Hey! Retroactive nerfing! The fairest way to handle this I think. Was never against the power of the tattoos but if you were going to nerf 'em I don't think you could have done it any other way, without it being really unfair on newer players. Like it =)

Blarg March 8 2005 5:52 PM EST

mmmmm, tasty.

GnuUzir March 8 2005 5:53 PM EST

Grand I love it :)

Majestik Moose March 8 2005 6:02 PM EST

hmm.. I guess the 210k number, can give some clue, to how tattoos are leveled.. (given stevehs exp)

budice March 8 2005 6:11 PM EST

Well having the largest ToJ here is my reply. I think its a great idea my clan members were wondering when i was going to use it full time. Now for my only complaint because it only got to finish its last rental i missed out on about 9 rentals and it cost me 175k to put in rentals and im not going to get it back. However thats life Jon your doing a great job running the game, keep it up.

BrandonLP March 8 2005 6:34 PM EST

I'd say that Jon timed this perfectly to coincide with CB2BANK's new service, but I'm afraid after seeing he made me happy, Jon would nerf something I love.

Rubberduck[T] [Hell Blenders] March 8 2005 6:37 PM EST

standing ovation

Caedmon [Revenge of the Forgers] March 8 2005 6:40 PM EST

Holy crud! Thanks, Jonathan! You're my favorite overlord! :)

CT [Monopoly] March 8 2005 6:53 PM EST

/me falls to his knees and worships Jon.

Tribute March 8 2005 7:00 PM EST

Um....yay, that'll make my score steady.

QBRanger March 8 2005 7:02 PM EST

I do love the change, however the people that had paid to have their tattoos in rentals at the nerf (which was completely legal as per the rules at the time) should get their money back they paid to put the tattoo into rentals.

Todd March 8 2005 7:14 PM EST

Man am I glad my offer of $100 on the second biggest ToJ was rejected not 6 hours ago :)

[FireBreathing]Dragon March 8 2005 8:12 PM EST

WHAT

3D March 8 2005 8:15 PM EST

eh.. i don't really like the nerf part.. lol... cause after all that work in rentals for some people it just get cut in 1/2.. that would seem somewhat wasteful in time..

QBsutekh137 March 8 2005 9:29 PM EST

So much for my ToJ monitoring...no need now.

Thank you, Jonathan.

KingMeng March 8 2005 9:30 PM EST

Good move...at least now, newbies strategy won't be "Rent-A-ToJ"...

maulaxe March 8 2005 10:12 PM EST

newbies might actually have to start thinking STRATEGY for a change - *gasp*

[Banned]Monty March 8 2005 10:14 PM EST

haha I JUST bought a huge freaking ToJ too oh how screwed I am :D...

[Banned]Monty March 8 2005 10:16 PM EST

<--------------

Chargerz-Back March 8 2005 10:28 PM EST

see monty, going in debt for a large ToJ doesn't pay off =P

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] March 9 2005 4:42 AM EST

why is buying one a waste of time?
I don't understand how this makes them worse.
Sure you can't have others level them for you at a cheaper cost but they are meant to be used and as far as I see they are just as effective as before.
Oh well.

AdminShade March 9 2005 6:58 AM EST

Finally we see a bit more strategy planning coming again :)

thank you Jon

Kashikis March 9 2005 7:23 AM EST

Awesome change Jon, much needed

Alienfb March 9 2005 4:58 PM EST

I have noticed that now big ToJ are not being loaned or rented the big chars are gaining scores and pr much quicker.

Because the top twenty or so chars are not being farmed by small chars they are no longer getting penalised loosing to low chars.

My char personally has gained well over 50K score today alone

Cheers Guys.

Bubo [DTC of Bubo] March 9 2005 5:02 PM EST

Has the cost to transfer tattoos been changed? I made a loan last week of a 85k level ToJ, and was charged $14,104 as a transfer fee. I just recovered the loan, and loaned it to the same person for a week as well. This time, the ToJ was level 90k, but I was only charged $13,781. If the fee has not changed, then can someone explain to me what this variance is?

AdminJonathan March 9 2005 5:04 PM EST

your eclan bonus kicked in, sherlock

Bubo [DTC of Bubo] March 9 2005 5:08 PM EST

The eclan bonus has been kicked in for me for almost a month now.

matchstick March 9 2005 5:09 PM EST

i think i speak for many-a-noob when i say, "crap!!! My strat has been taken out of effect" if you know what i mean. I guess it does add more depth to the game a.k.a. makes it reallly hard for noobs. and i was so close to the supportship...

AdminJonathan March 9 2005 5:40 PM EST

yes, taking the "rent a big TJK" strat out was kind of the idea.

Duke March 9 2005 9:18 PM EST

Thx jon

chernobyl March 10 2005 10:30 AM EST

HOORAY!!! No more n00bs with huge tat's messing up the ranks!!!!

But what do I do with my massive ToJ after I retire my huge character?

Victim March 11 2005 1:41 AM EST

*cough* Create new characters *cough*

chernobyl March 11 2005 6:04 PM EST

That didn't answer my real question, Victim, but i'll take the flames with grace :-)

moser March 11 2005 6:09 PM EST

Make four farms and rotate it amongst them.

And only 3 guys really lost anything in the 'you washed my ToJ in hot water?' incident.

Bubo [DTC of Bubo] March 11 2005 6:10 PM EST

"But what do I do with my massive ToJ after I retire my huge character?"

After running that poor ToJ so hard over such a short period of time, you've probably broken it's spirit, and caused severe damage to most of it's body. After abusing your pet so much, you really should just let it retire and live out the rest of it's sad, pitiful life in what little peace it can find...

Or treat it like a horse and have it shot.
