Character inspect pages? (in General)
I just inspected another user's character, and saw that the inspect page now contains a full view of exact stat levels similar to the equip page view. I noticed one thing, though: the character I inspected, while it was listed on the user's page as their active character, said "retired" over to the left side of the inspect page, underneath the user portrait. I inspected another user's supposedly non-retired characters, and they too were listed as retired. I tried to inspect my own character to see if it said retired (because I clearly am fighting with it) and an error page came up. Similarly, all the characters I have on my fightlist are uninspectable, presumably because they are still active. Either that, or the inspect link is broken.
What's going on?
Spoke too soon; it's all working now. Nice new look.
I really don't like how items are all just bunched together, same goes for the equip page.
BTW, you can't tell what named items are anymore by hovering over the named item?
I was going to say something to the same effect of Small, but I think changes are still being made.
Also noticed that the Max Tatt level is missing from the page.
And what about spells like Guardian Angel that show : ?/?. Maybe it should just show the level for those spells, in the character inspect page and the 'equip' page. Just a suggestion.

I really don't like the new look. The old look was classic.

I don't want to say I dislike it yet, but I don't particularly care for it either RVT...guess I need time to adjust.

It's different. I don't really dislike it either, but it just feels... I dunno... Intrusive? (inspecting others) Takes some of the surprise out of what to expect from a battle.

any way I can get the classic option at least for my own inspect page? I really do prefer the equip screen to look at individual minions, the train screen to look at AMF/etc stats, and the inspect screen for an overall view....I would like my old overall view as an option somehow.

I have to say I don't like the new look. Right now it takes longer to make a decision whether I should fight the character or not, because I have to click through all the members one by one. Before the changes I could quickly assess any opponent at pretty much one look.
I can't see what Named Items are. That's very detrimental...

I like to see the whole page up as it was. That gives you a better overview of what you are doing. This is rubbish. You can see this already on the equip and train page. Don't do it on the inspect pages.
I've said it in mockery before, but this time I mean it...
WAAAAAAHHHHHHH! :(
{CB1}-Mokaba
June 28 2008 4:18 AM EDT
Now, everyone can see what you have trained in your strat as well.
I don't like it at all. There goes the last secrets of the game. Hmmmm.
fightlists are now, more than ever much less a strategic decision than a math problem... hence, the "WAAAAAAHHHHHHH! :("
But what really irks me is tournaments... All that lack of privacy I had mentioned my dislike of before... Then, this... Now, any strategy is available to view. With that strategy, you'll need a fightlist, so after taking note of their XP spread, click their fightlog. Then go back to their userpage, and search their transfers and purchase logs.
How long before I can just CM OB my password and have him steal his own strategy for me and spend my tourny BA while he's at it?
I can appreciate the desire for a new look, especially trying to make it as FB-friendly as possible... but is there any way the inspect page could fit the tiny dimensions of FB while not giving out my family's secret baked bean recipe to the general public?
I really don't like this change. I liked seeing all their minions at once.
and with the new look you can no longer 'see' named items

June 28 2008 7:06 AM EDT
If you inspece your own character and have named items, those show up as named.
I <3 this change.
I do think Hatch is right about the tournaments though - its very easy to just steal the best strategy and run with it now
Fixed named items. Took off spell levels.

MTL is missing and is a great thing to be able to view.

I'm sure it could be done in a neater fashion. Why not have the things across the top go down the left in a column, and then have the minions on the right side. Would be easier to read, and more similar to the last view. Also, a "view all minions" button like in train/equip.

Jon,
I think that almost all of us loved having MTL on the character page. It was a good representation of the person VPR. It allowed one to see ones progress compared to others who saved up xp.
However, seeing individual spell levels is different. That certainly effects gameplay and is not an adequate correlate to MTL.
Please reconsider your thinking on linking MTL and spell levels on the character overview page.
I personally do not care if my spell effects/levels are shown, but do feel very strongly about having MTL visible.

Since you aren't interested in supporting two versions, can we
1) Have a poll on whether or not we prefer the original view
or
2) Alter the existing new version so that it is more of a character overview-type page?

no

what information is not present that used to be?
Regarding #1, there was a poll a while back on this topic......

Previously, I could quickly look at a strategy on the inspect page and simply see all trained skills, spells, and attributes in one quick go. That was a quick way to identify, for example, a base decay that had been slipped in or some other alteration to a strategy.
I also liked looking at it as a general overview of the team. I often just quickly clicked to my own character inspect page after training HP levels to see where they all were in relation to one another.
That's basically what I want back: The page that shows a general team overview, rather than a more detailed look at each specific minion. I like having the detailed look at my own team, which is available on equip and train; not so much when looking at opponents, and not so much when I want an overview look.
I'm not sure which #1 you are referring to. I remember a poll about showing spell stats, is that what you meant?

Yes, "Show All Minions" would be nice, and since there is less to show for all minions (as opposed to the training page which shows new stuff to train), "Show All" should be the default, I should think. I don't mind having to scroll a bit... I don't think any sort of two-D matrix will work ala post battle stats (Flamey mentions that idea bove), because the attributes would have to cover EVERY attribute, and any given team would have a lot of gaps in the grid. Building a dynamic grid with just what is needed is difficult programmatically, and is not the best UI design (nothing stays in the same place if you shift things around team to team).
But a "Show All" would be great.
I agree that MTL should not be displayed. Hoarding experience is a part of strategy, too, in my opinion. *smile* If anyone wants to know my VPR, they can ask.

on a side note: while we are on the discussion of displays.
can we have a quick way to transfer money between characters on same account in the manage page? I have to switch to my rental guy, click on equip, click on "inspect self", click on my userName, click on my main character, and then "send to", then I can finally transfer?

We all got used to the Train and Equip page, can we give the new Inspect layout some time (assuming a Show All Minions gets added, that is. *smile*)
Consistency is good. When all the pages follow the same style, it will be easier to read ALL of them, not to mention the easier maintainability/customizability for Jonathan.
and once it is all completed, we might see some themes once again!

June 28 2008 12:25 PM EDT
Sut,
Because we all got used to the Equip/Train pages, does not mean we prefer that to the "show all" as the default.
Show All as the default will make gameplay much easier for most of us.
I miss the item layout, weapons on the right, armor on the right. Though I agree this layout is much more efficient and neater, just all the items cluttered together bugs me for some reason.
QBOddBird
June 28 2008 12:30 PM EDT
I don't even see it as more efficient or neater.
Before we had slots under each minion - you could see immediately if they were open or full - and weapons/armor separated out. Also, you could see the entire team.
Now we have to look at minions individually, and the weapons/armor are clumped together. Positive note: Jon's change to named equipment, where you can hover over and see. Other than that, I don't like the new setup. Show All Minions!!
Added "show all." Working on making it prettier.

Hm, can "Show All" be the default in the case of inspecting? I know that isn't exactly consistent with the other pages, but now that showing all is used in several pages, maybe a "Show all when available" option in Preferences is in order?

Sut,
We are on the same page, Just looking at it from different angles.
I thought you were typing about us getting used to things the way they are now.
I was responding that even though we got used to it, does not mean we prefer the current way.
But we both would like the same thing in the future, "show all" as the default.
Ya, Hovering over naming works again ^_^

I only train once a month or so, though, so it is not as big a deal at this point (for me personally).

I can't longer see the number of AC in the inspect page
How about char bios and allowing the way back machine to spider char pages...

Can we have a setting to default to shown all minions?
"it's easy to learn the level of familiar by deduction minion NWs from total character NW"
1) Total character NW includes unequipped items
2) Who cares if it's easy to figure out the level of a tattoo? I see no reason for it to be a problem.

June 28 2008 8:45 PM EDT
Yay, thanks for the "see all" option.
Now... a few more nitpicks.
1. It makes a lot more sense to have the "show all" as the default option and the "show tabbed" as the non-default option.
2. In the old view, one could quickly determine what named items were weapons (or a shield) and which were armour, as the former were on the right side and the latter on the left side.
So, please, either re-separate them in left/right OR better still prefix them with a "slot letter" (for instance, the following - A: amulet, C: cloak, H: headgear, B: body armor, T: tattoo, L: leggings, G: gloves, S: shield, R: ranged weapon, M: melee weapon)
Didn't really know where else to post this + I didn't think it needed a new thread, but when looking at a character without minions, it says ''Recruit minions on the Train page. '' and the 'Train' link is active. It takes you to your own training page.
Just thought I'd point it out. Oh and the character I looked at was GW's 'GearedRight'.
