T39: GL's UC Bonanza (in Contests)

This tournament will be funded with prizes donated by GL! The premise is also his idea.

Rules:
Single Minion, must use UC, no ranged weapons (DD included) after the first week. After the first week, you may not fight any targets other than those in your bracket.

During the first week, you may use any equipment. Once the bracket begins, you may not use any rare equipment.

BA cap of 1500 for the first week (you must enforce this yourself) and a total cap of 1600.


How to win:
For the first week of the tournament anything goes, as long as you are using a single minion with UC. After the first week, the tournament will become a bracket. Anyone within 60% of the top MPR will be given a spot in the bracket, and from there one round will occur per day.

Each player will have to fight their target three times. Only a win counts for you, everything else counts as a loss. Whoever wins the majority of the 6 battles will go to the next round.

I have a question. Since you can only use the lesser tats for 1 week, would it be legal to loan them out for free for that one week period? I am assuming it would be, but I just like to be sure of myself.

The only way for items to get to a tourney character are via auctions and stores, so you wouldn't be able to loan them or rent them to anyone.

You can't transfer anything to tournament characters.

AoD - You get 1600, that is the cap for the whole tournament. You use 1500 the first week (you training period) and then the remaining 100 is for use in the bracket.

And yes, the tournament ends when the bracket is finished.

i hope we have a pretty massive xp bonus as uc is hard to get to the first few skill-ups down low.

DD doesn't count as a range weapon, does it?

Perhaps we need to await on Slayer to clarify the use of DD spells.

I personally believe ranged weapons to be those you have to equip, like bows, slings and crossbows.

But let us see what Slayer states.

Slayer will need to confirm for sure, but having chatted with GL about this tourney last week I know the intention for it was a single minion UC tourney, which means UC minion, not fake UC FB minion tourney.

Having not played with UC, can a minion from the beginning really use UC and win? Does it not take a lot of xp to get it where it can do some real damage, given the fact you cannot use a CGI or HG.

I'm pretty sure whoever has the highest MPR will win the second week bracket since there aren't any variations on the strategy that you can use.

UC versus UC, you could conceivably train a UC to a higher proportion of your total MPR and have a bigger weapon than the highest MPR, who may have invested more in HP for instance. And having a higher UC could mean the bigger MPR might not be able to hit you as much as they would like...

Since all the minions wil essentially be the same, there is very little that strategy can do.

Yes, one can have a large EC as well as UC, but with 1 minion, there is little one can effectively do.

And all ones money will likely be spent on non rare armor.

In most scenarios the largest MPR will win.

JW, you can't use a weapon with UC and it'll be hard to get UC very high without any rares.

I just get an error. It like locks up my left window. The error I get is "Unable to connect to CB." Even after I switch back to my main character my left window is still locked up.

I think somehow the BA from the 1600 refreshes a little bit.

I fought until I had 100 BA on the sidebar... 1600-100=1500 or so you would think, yet somehow I missed the mark by 11 fights :|

Yeah, the BA refreshes once you're under the 160 total. I almost got caught by the same thing.

Damn. Went 1 ba over the 1500. Must have got a quick heal on my opponent and got two kills more quickly than I realised. I was counting so carefully as well!

I didn't think the BA would regenerate if it would put you beyond the cap, if you've gone a couple fights over, I won't force you to restart, I didn't think that problem would arise.

This is complete crap. Restarting shouldn't be allowed in a tournament with all of the starting BA. Just look at Mandos's new tournament character. 197MPR per BA while the 2nd highest is at 138 MPR per BA.

Pfft. I don't think you're a shoe in. ;) If you don't retrain when the brackets start, I'll use a base EC to get you to zero Str. ;) No RoBF to get you thorugh the Brackets. :P

If you do retrain, that'll just lower your MPR/Per Battle.

And if you syphon off that high HP, you're hitting a larger retrain penalty than most. ;)

As for restarting, you can't transfer existing tourny gear/cash can you? So what's really the problem of being able to restart? (Tourny noob-ness striking again here...)

Benefits of restarting:

Seeing all those that went before you, paving the way with tests of characters, sometimes losing to them to find the optimal targets.

Just look at the win % of the restarters compared to the first time characcteres.

The MPR/BA challenged ratios are 189 or above for some of the restarters due to the knowledge of which characters to hit for 100% bonus.

My personal ratio is 120.

This leads to more, much more MPR when the brackets start. And everyone will retrain once they start.

But you could do exactly the same thing from just not making your Tourny charcater on day one, and waiting till half way thourgh (if you're sure you can burn all the BA in time.

Well unless one is lucky enough now to find and get a RBF, there is really no way to compete with those lucky or smart enough to have already gotten one.

There is really no equal footing in this Tournament and one of the reasons I dislike the current T structure when rares are allowed and we have to fight against each other.

It becomes a who gets luckiest type of tourney. Who gets that uber rare to get the 100% bonus longest.

I tried to fight very smart and have less MPR than those who have less battles all due to the lack of getting that correct tattoo.

Perhaps this situation can be rectified in future tourneys.

Like everyone starting with the same rares and no other rares allowed.

It's actually a lot higher than that, I haven't spent any XP in over 150 fights :S give or take. I've got a LOT of XP untrained =)

In the future, I really believe there should be a penalty for starting over.

It was nice to have all the BA in one pool, however this did allow this type of chaos.

When we had to wait for regeneration, there was a point where is you restarted, you lost out due to the inability to maximize your BA.

Perhaps each day you after the first you restart you lose 150 BA. Those that have their first character of course get the full 1600 BA.

Because we all know that being new to a tourney is much harder than already fighting in one. The knowledge growth of course.

This is a tournament. In any tournament I have ever played or watched do they allow restarts. Imagine If during the NFL playoffs: A team was allowed to restart after the 1st quarter. Baseball? Hockey? Basketball, Ping Pong? Poker? None.

Anyways I do appreciate tournaments and I know rules usually get established from people trying to abuse the system. Some of the suggestions above look good, I hope we can have something set for next time to avoid these problems.

If there's to be no restarting, then in any tourny with the full BA cap to start, all Tourny characters *must* be created the moment the tourny starts, and all BA spent asap, as otherwise, the guys who leave starting till later get this 'bonus' of being able to follow the progress of those who've already started.

Imagine if someone new to this tourny just made thier character now. They've not restarted, yet would have the same perks as someone who did.

Seriously, it's not restarting that's caused any sort of inbalance, it's (if you really think it's such a large inbalance) starting after others to let them pave the way for you.

Which is a strategy in it's own right.

As much a strategy as getting hold of the first full tattoo you can get hold of rather than the lessers that emerge on the first day of any tourney.

Seriously, I was busy on the weekend and away yesterday for work, so I haven't had the time to think about the tourney seriously. I don't think that there should be a penalty for starting late, because for some of us, RL may actually stop us starting on time.

I don't think there's any problem waiting in the tournament, but restarting is unfair. Burn your BA carefully the first time and you won't have to restart.

Why should there be a 2nd chance if you mess up? If everyone can keep restarting over and over then it won't be much of a tournament when everyone has the same MPR.

It's all about the bracket. ;)

I know I'm not. ;) I never really intended to be. I only entered in the hope to get more people to enter the Tourny.

But seeing as a lot of people are just retiring, and not even going to give the bracket section a go, it looks like I might win gear back by default.

I don't like the fact that you are able to retire and restart as much as you like. As soon as it is known that there is someone doing really good. Everyone else can just restart and copy him.

The problem is, if you don't allow it (in the type of tourny that gives you your BA upfront), it would just push people into waiting for as long as possible before making their go at it, so there's more chance of learning from those who've played before you.

Hell, even if you forced everyone to make thier one tourny charcater on the first day, I could wait, and not spend any BA until the last day, just to get this sort of advantage. (Or as close to the end as I thought I could get away with, due to BA burning time taken...)

I reckon, if this is possible, to have a tourney where you can either make it that each player can get one restart
or
that on everyday, the BA cap is reduced by 80 BA; i.e if you don't fight at all you lose 80 BA from your BA total, you fight 10 fights you lose 70 BA from your current BA total and so on to where anyone who has spent 80 or more BA loses no BA from their total. For this tourney set it to stop when people reach 100 or less BA. For this there would be no retiring and restarting.
This means that people can't restart to get an advantage or wait till later to follow those doing the best.

For the first day there would be no BA removal but everyday afterwards it would decrease by 80 BA. Anyone who joins later loses BA equal to the number of days they were not present (excluding the first).

I don't understand what the big deal is, people are acting like they are being slighted by people restarting and doing better than they are. If you suck, instead of whining, why not try to do better?

One question:

Why do we prevent people from abandoning their accounts, giving up all their characters and items, with the desire to restart with a NUB?

The answer I hear is that the knowledge of how to play CB gives you a very distinct advantage the 2nd or 3rd time around.

How can the same not apply in the tournament?

But... Everyone does have the same chance to restart so it is an even playing field. For those with the time to have many do overs.

I personally do not wish to spend the time to restart again and again and possibly again in order to make the perfect character, with the perfect MPR/battles fought ratio in order to make it to the bracket portion of the tourney.

If I would have kept my first character, I would have been left out of the bracket portion.

So restarting, if one started the first couple days, was essential to being competitive.

Yes, it is my choice not to restart. However, I would like tourneys in the future, at least some of them, of this style to not allow restarts.

Mandos, I can see where you're coming from, but it was an EF. How do we know that it wasn't just a named RoBF when it was sold? Well, for one, the tattoo would still be named, but as you can see on SK's tourney character, it's not named.

In a sense, this seems to be a minor bug on the auction history.

When you search Flame for completed auctions it shows up. It's also possible it was a named item and the naming ending between now and then.

Either way you scored a very large tattoo. I don't really care, just don't whine about restarting being unfair, because one could easily whine about your success being 100% due to your own luck in finding a large tattoo /and or an robf also.

Like I previously said I don't really care either way I was just pointing out that life isn't fair and urging people to grow up and stop whining about every little thing.

Not everyone was at a point in the tournament to buy it. It was in the AH AFTER I retired my first character, and it was gone before my restart character had even 400k.

If we take Mando's second character as the benchmark, and his growth remians constant, we're looking at about 154K MPR to make the bracket.

You would have easily been within that on your first character.

I would just like to point out that many have broken the "If you are in the tourney, you can't buy from other tourney people through auctions" rule.

They can't use rares during the bracket anyways, so I don't really care about the auctions this time around.

In other words..

Two players have a match-up.

Each player attacks the other 3 times.
Whoever has the most wins out of the 6 fights (3 Offensive, 3 Defensive) moves on?

Also, how will the bracket be set up?

2 vs 9
3 vs 8

etc. etc. ??

That's how they run normally, so is this what we are going to set up as?

Due to the fact people restarted numerous times, there are currently only 4 characters within 60% of SK's MPR.

Perhaps another 2 or 3 may make it.

is the standard.

I 'move' that SK and Emotion's tournament characters be reset, and maybe even a fine in place. What they are doing is abuse no matter how you look at it.

SK is gimping his character so that emotion can fight it (The Force), and when Emotion is fighting it (A 100% target for emotion, boosting his score super high), SK is using the force to lose to someone else, so emotion is literally fighting 45-50 fights in a minute. (check battle log, 48 fights in 1:08 for example) Then SK retrains his character so no one else can fight it, and then he fights emotion's character for 100% bonus. How is that legal?

I've only just noticed this, but considering SK has over 1300 fights against emotion's character, and Emotion has been farming SK's character for the past 2 days (695 in the past 24 hours), this is plain abuse.

If this kind of action is truly condoned in this tournament and in future tournaments then I feel sorry for the entire CB community.

Seriously, shame on you guys. Even if you win this tournament and Slayer lets it fly, you're both still losers in my eyes from this day forward.

Even though I'm not in it, what's stopping double-tapping, either by the fighter or a random person, giving the tourney character an easy win? (This is for the bracket fights).

Wow... He also tried the same trick to me but a little differently. He kept healing his tourney char since i was already beating it. He said he's jsut speeding up my fights. I didnt know this was illegal so i agreed to it, and when i didnt want to fight his character anymore(CB was getting low) he asked if i could take off my RoBF so that he can beat me to return the favor... i didn't agree to that part simply cause i found it stupid to help another competitor win the tournament im trying to win, and if i'd known the first part was also illegal i would not have agreed to it either. Hopefully i do not get banned from this since i was already beating his character at that time, it was just sped up... A LOT

What is to stop someone from equipping and fighting with a tattoo when no one is looking and claiming the win?? Maybe once the bracket begins, is it possible for slayer to manually remove all tattoos / banned items?

It's obvious that people will always try their hardest to get around the stated rules when there is a prize up for grabs :(

UC only. UC being the only non rare melee weapon you should need for a UC contest.

SLayer have you never played a sport that required a bracket? You can't just have everyone fight each other or you will get 5 people in the semis. I would recommend a 16 man bracket with the 6 highest seeds getting a bye. This is about all you can do short of cutting out two people to a eight man bracket.

Since Im already out, I was playing with my strat a little bit and now I am able to stalemate everyone in the bracket. How can a winner be decided if the two finalist stalemate each other?

If you are the attacker, let the other person have their EC while you chill with your high HP and mid size GA. Obviously it will only work if you can get your HP large enough.

Considering there are millions of CBD and worth in items on the tourney chars, instead of retiring them and losing all that money/items, why isnt that used to fund the next tournament? Just curious..

WoC -- the 2400% Bonus and Extra BA put into the game from the tournament is why, or so I'd think.

I retrained to have about 2000 ST and DX left after EC, vs your 20 ST and 200 DX

The huge bonus to money and the fact that it is all extra money besides normal fighting is the reason.

It would be a 2400% bonus to normal cash inflow without much of an outflow... such a thing is bad for the community.

I really liked the premise of this tournament however there were many fail parts involved, I just tried to play with the advantages that were available.

A few adjustments and this style of tourny would be a success.

Overall a pretty good job by Slayer :-)

Thanks for the tourney. It was pretty good. It reached just high enough to where actually training UC was beneficial. I ended up having a UC effect of 1-2 for most of my fights.

Not neccesarily. for example, the "Zombie" tournament disregards this rule because participators can "die."
