Haven't you heard? The SOD is the new ELB! (in Changelog)

AdminNightStrike January 18 2010 10:03 PM EST

Better head over to the blacksmith and find out how to get one! I hear Cash for Clunkers applies on trade-ins over there, so you might not want to buy new....

**NOTE**
Accompanying this change, undo actions now restore the lesser NW of either the original item or the new item. Those of you that change your weapon to a different type, forge it up or disenchant it, then revert it... will be rather disappointed.

woot!

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 18 2010 10:03 PM EST

Ranger wins!

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] January 18 2010 10:05 PM EST

Wow! Now we get to see where the weapons go. Nice addition!

QBRanger January 18 2010 10:08 PM EST

Thanks Novice for letting me win so easily!

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- January 18 2010 10:13 PM EST

Good stuff... I wonder what will change over the next few weeks regarding top end weapons.

I expect a lot more large exbows to show up :S

{Wookie}-Jir.Vr- January 18 2010 10:14 PM EST

Sorry for 2x post, but I'm really curious how much damage Ranger would put out if he swapped his bow to an exbow.

^^

I hope so >:D

Demigod January 18 2010 10:26 PM EST

Holy crap... I'm actually considering taking the retraining loss just to make use of this. Thanks!

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 18 2010 10:43 PM EST

Om me oh My!!!!!!!! Thanks NS!!!!

Flamey January 19 2010 1:09 AM EST

I don't understand this either.

Demigod January 19 2010 1:15 AM EST

There's now a ranged salvage yard. And for the other thread, he fixed a problem with disenchanting.

Flamey January 19 2010 1:35 AM EST

Cheers

kevlar January 19 2010 1:46 AM EST

wow, a lot of people thought this day would never come! thanks NS (looks for a bow to use....*crickets* hehe)

AdminNightStrike January 19 2010 1:52 AM EST

Ugh... offline temporarily....

AdminNightStrike January 19 2010 1:54 AM EST

(Note: the entire SY is offline right now, both melee and ranged.)

{EQ}Viperboy January 19 2010 3:33 AM EST

AdminShade January 19 2010 5:45 PM EST

I haven't seen news of it being back up so I guess it's still down...

QBRanger January 20 2010 11:44 AM EST

It looks like it is up and working again!!

False start

AdminNightStrike January 20 2010 12:05 PM EST

Back online, see updated first post.

QBRanger January 20 2010 12:16 PM EST

Interesting change.

I guess it stops someone from changing an ELB to a MSB to forge it then change it back.

Although you can change it and use a NEW base ELB to change it back after it was forged.

Zenai [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 20 2010 12:37 PM EST

NS you rock!

AdminNightStrike January 20 2010 12:42 PM EST

Ranger - in that instance, I would hope that the cost of two base ranged weapons is enough of an offset.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] January 20 2010 12:56 PM EST

^ It's not. I did the math with my SoD when I put 20M into it.

20M at 70% is 14M. One base SoD and base Elb is way less than 6M, but the real cost any time your forge anything is time.

TheHatchetman January 20 2010 1:15 PM EST

Only reason I have a BoNE is cuz the x is 30% more efficient to forge than a MoD ~_^

AdminNightStrike January 20 2010 2:04 PM EST

I'm not too sure of a good alternative....

Demigod January 20 2010 2:10 PM EST

1. Wait to see if it's actually abused rather than just used wisely.
2. Adjust forge cycles as needed.

QBOddBird January 20 2010 2:47 PM EST

3 weapon items have to be used up in the process

I don't see that as a problem, since those items have to be acquired

It's just something that comes along with the concept of a Salvage Yard, and there's not much I could think of to do about it, aside from the unfair-sounding change of making all forge cycles the same

AdminNightStrike January 20 2010 3:30 PM EST

3?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 20 2010 3:33 PM EST

with the advent of the salvage yard, i am not sure all cycles shouldn't be the same. wouldn't this allow someone to start building, and thus using, some of the lesser weapons and then switch to a rare as it becomes available?

QBRanger January 20 2010 3:37 PM EST

3 weapon items have to be used up in the process

Should be only 2. One to make it a forgeable item and 1 to go back.

Lesser rares are not subject to the salvage yard.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 20 2010 4:15 PM EST

they could be though and increase their usage is my point.

QBRanger January 20 2010 4:22 PM EST

Yes,

But then again, who uses or needs to use anything less than a top 6 weapon?

Especially when you can buy a top 6 weapon after 1 week of a NUB.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 20 2010 4:35 PM EST

i am working under the assumption that there would be less rares due to the destruction of weapons used in the salvage yard itself.

QBRanger January 20 2010 4:46 PM EST

The melee salvage yard has been up for a while.

Is there any difficulty in getting a top 6 weapon if you want one?

I have had no problems myself.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 20 2010 4:51 PM EST

do we have the same issue with melee as described by you?

QBRanger January 20 2010 4:59 PM EST

I have no idea how many "rare" missile weapons are forged.

However, there have been few instances of people changing an ELS to a Bone to get it forged. Then needing one to go back.

Perhaps since the ELB is more popular it may happen, but I seriously doubt there will be such a shortage of rare missile or melee weapons to necessitate someone putting NW into a non rare then converting it.

And if we let people change non rares, forgers would just look at the best forgeable non rare and if that was better than any rare, use that to forge and switch back.

While it is a good idea in theory, I see little reason to open this up to non rares.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 20 2010 5:02 PM EST

the whole idea of lesser rares was only proposed along with forging cycles being standardized.

QBRanger January 20 2010 5:33 PM EST

I really think, before we make such a change, that we collect enough data to support the idea that there will be a shortage of real rares.

Enough to warrant including lesser rares in the salvage yard.

I would think at least 6 months of data should suffice, do you agree?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 20 2010 5:40 PM EST

sounds fine, we do have about five years of data showing that lessers aren't used. ; )

miteke [Superheros] January 26 2010 2:21 PM EST

What I would like is if the salvage operation transferred NW from the salvaged item.

i.e. salvaging a bow with 1M in + and 2M in x would add 1M in + and 2M in x to the new weapon(with maybe 25% of that as a fee). Same with armor though it only adds to +. I'd even give partial credit towards forging. That would start making rares more rare as they got consumed and give a better use to unwanted items rather than just disenchanting. Everyone just disenchants stuff nowadays. What a waste.

I also don't see why it is just limited to rares and don't see why you can't salvage a missile weapon to get a melee weapon.

Having said all that, I do like the change. I just always want MORE!

AdminNightStrike January 26 2010 2:29 PM EST

miteke - there comes a point where the amount of freedom given to users is just excessive.

I believe your suggestions would be counter to a healthy economy.

miteke [Superheros] January 26 2010 3:56 PM EST

I knew someone would object.

Personally I don't think it would hurt the economy, but I can't prove it. It would mean more cash in the global pool but less rares. Not a bad thing in my mind (since I am currently fielding a struggling Archer finding it impossible to keep up with encumbrance allowances).

You throw these things out there hoping enough someones will agree, but knowing full well that 90% of the time there will not be enough support. There are far more really good ideas out there than implementations of said ideas. Not that I'm criticizing, of course, since I figure it is dang hard to implement most of the ideas and I'm not stepping up to the plate and doing them.
