Drops (in General)

Wondering if anyone has seen one in recent memory...

got a FF a couple days ago

Got a RoS three days ago but that was from a Loooooonnnnnggg dry spell.

Not had one for a long while, but the last was one of a batch of about 4 in a week, so....

Got an EF about 2 weeks ago. Changed my tattoo with it :].

Off the top of my head, I don't recall getting one since around Thanksgiving. I buy all BA and burn 99% of the natural.

If I could have about ten people agree to list all of their future drops and tell me their number of battles challenged at that time, I could track the average number of battles between drops. But the numbers would be skewed if anyone forgot to post a drop.

I've had only one since Nov'20th :(

If you guys want more drops, get more people fighting battles :)

Hint: Drop rate (whether it's the ones spawned in auctions or the ones sent to you automatically) is based on the number of battles served.

Admittedly, this is yet another downside to forging :(

NS: Then add Forging to it as well. That should be obvious if Forging is afftecting Drops this much..........

Every BA burnt at the forge could give you a chance of finding something someone left/lost :P

Maybe I am confused.

But if more people fight, there may be a few more drops. However, the rate specific people get items will not change.

So if you get 1 item every blue moon, with 1M more people fighting, your rate will still be 1 every blue moon. With 1M people each having that blue moon chance.

Can we just call this system what is it, a complete failure and a complete waste of time?

Not many people like it and the "wow" factor has long gone. Especially to those who have gotten 1 drop in the last few months.

I like it! Always a surprise when I get something to offer to clanmates or sell.

I don't remember the last time I got one. If I had to guess, I would say sometime back in Dec.

Shortly after I made my post about not getting one since Thanksgiving... I won a BoNE

This drops system is horrible. Not only are the drops SUPER rare, but you get a broad reduced rewards system for MAYBE getting a drop--then the item you get from the drop is probably not even worth that much (see katana and es spam). AND the items which are dropped that are worth something are ACTUALLY WORTH LESS for a bunch of reasons:

1) You get less money fighting. Which means that there is less money to spend on items. Which means that there is less money to be had by selling an item because the market is worse.

2) The dropped items arent adjusted for market value. Whatever system you have going now drops a crappy item for greatly reduced rewards, and the frequency that these occur does not make up for the difference.

3) When time is taken to infinity, for arguments purpose, 1 year: CB-USD prices will have gone up (assuming ceterus paribus) or the market will tend to CB-USD prices going up. This encourages sell-outs which decrease the amount of active people, which is bad for everything.

4) The drops are like the government taking away your house but giving you a nice car. You lose the good, concrete investment, for something which is wishy-washy investment wise, is unpredictable (it could break down) but looks really cool--even though you're homeless.

1) If for some reason the drop system goes away, what makes you think rewards will go back up? I think the discussion might be very different if people saw the 20% cut as the new standard. Would you hate the drop system if it were kept in place, but rewards were boosted by 25% (putting them where they were)? Would you be happy if the drop system were eliminated, but rewards stayed as they currently are?

Actually I am beginning to sort of like drops.

I get to offer those katanas and ESs to my clan mates and get a great laugh when they respectfully decline them.

That laugh alone is worth the 20% loss of money that I could improve my character with.

Or maybe not.

We've had drops for nearly 9 months now and the CB-USD price has dropped during that time by about half. The value of most items has stayed fairly stable. The only thing that's really risen in value is tattoo price, and that's probably because they're spawning as drops rather than in the auction house...

Becuase the 20% drop was *directly* caused by the introduction of the Drop system.

That may have initially been the case. But note that Jon and NS have access to every last bit of the data. How many battles have been challenged, how much cash is earned, how many drops there were, what central bank would pay for those drops, and any other information they may need.

With all this at hand, it wouldn't be all that difficult to see if the cash drop and item drop value are or are not working as intended. It has been awhile, so I imagine whatever effect it is having on cash/items is a desirable one.

We should just start doing buisness Diablo 2 style. Instead of using eye's as currency we'll start using the ES.

From now on, let's all agree that 1 ES = 5 mil CBD.

Now, although nobody will ever actually use one in a fight, we have a new influx of CBD that we can use to trade. So instead of being sad that you got an ES, you can now be really happy because you just got 5 mil CBD.

Although I can't pretend to know the thoughts of those who make the choices for the game, my opinion is this. 20% less rewards was going to come regardless. The drop system is seperate from or perhaps a way to appease the mob. It's plainly obvious to everyone that the amount of $ that even the >lucky< have received from drops nowhere equals 20% bonus reduction. Which would prove my point (and Hatchets) that drops are not intended as an alternative income vs more rewards and to view them as seperate things.

The drops have been getting credit for the reduced rewards this whole time when I don't think they deserve it.

Although this is not the only reason some people don't like it.

I wasn't complaining. I still find them kinda "exciting" :)

Why would I pay the transfer costs to buy 5 mil from you for 5 mil.

You really don't understand how the system would work at all.

Basically if you were buying a large item for 20 mil and you had 2x ES, you could pay 10 mil + 2 ES instead.

As long as everyone in CB agreed on the system and the value of the ES traded as monetary value, the system works. It worked fine for Diablo 2.

You'd even save on XFer costs if you sent an ES instead of 5mil...

I've been fighting more than I have been for the entire duration of the the drop system being introduced but I haven't gotten a single drop in a very long time...

It just doesn't seem right getting less drops for more fights fought and won.

this kinda reminds of the wi flag. my first mmorpg was asheron's call and many of us in that game complained of being inordinately attacked by monsters. we were told for a couple of years that it was all in our head and the randomization was fine. they did finally figure out what was going on as described here:

not that i suspect anything is wrong with the randomization in our drop system, but it can happen.

Well, it wasn't fully random. Not all fights had the same % chance of getting a drop (and they still don't). I made it a lot more uniform, though. It's still not perfect.

So not all fights have the same chance of getting a drop?

NS, that makes the system suck even more... We lose 20% from every fight, and don't have an equal chance of every fight generating a drop. :(

iirc, jon stated in the changelog that the different ba regen rates had different chances to balance out the fact that they get different amounts of fights.

in effect, people in 10/20 have more fights but less chance per fight as opposed to people in 6/20 who have less fights but more chance per fight.

Stops people from wanting to stay in the lower BA regen zones to get more chances of drops (or continuingly creating new NCBs to 'farm' 10/20 for drops).

But that wouldn't have warrented a change from NS, so I'm thinking something else was askew...

I guess that's me averaging almost one drop each month now. Slow start but it's speeding up. Probably just a coincidence that I'm now at 7/20 and getting more frequent drops than I ever did at 10/20 or 9/20.

Ha! Nothing since Thanksgiving, then two in February and this one. I just wish there was some value attached to the item. All three have been mediocre.

Oh, I've started tracking my number of challenged battles between drops to judge the average. It was 13,045 between the last and this one.

I have forgotten the last drop I received. However, it has been a month at least if not too. Next drop I get, I will also mark the number of battles between drops.

Fight a lot; it is random. Also, I got an RoS today :).

you actually have to win a fight to trigger a drop though, so fight and win all of your fights.

Didn't already know that we "had" to report the drops we get when it happened ; it was like my 100th fight only, which seems to be statistically awesome from what I can understand :-)

Is someone keeping track of drop distribution? Maybe Nightstrike? A "random" distribution with a small player base as CBs could lead to unfair results. (I'm asking that because I want more drops for me, hehe.)

This drop system I could actually begin to enjoy :)
