T53: Command & Conquer (in Contests)

The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming!

T53 is a team tournament where two warring factions, the United States and Russia will duke it out for control of the continental United States.

Glossary

Thin circle = Tier 1 city
Thicker circle = Tier 2 city
Thickest circle = Tier 3 city


Solid circles = nuclear silo

solid squares are used to calculate requisition costs to move from point to point


Squares with P = powerplants
Squares with F = forward bases
Red squares = forward assault position


Requisition
Movement will be based off of requisition. Each solid black square takes 10,000 requisition to pass. Requisition is gained by controlling cities, controlling the entire center grid, and by multiplying the total increase in MPR per day for each team by two.

In addition, to re-deploy teammates who have been defeated in a battle, requisition must be used.


Forward Bases and Forward Assault Positions
Forward bases have 1/2 requisition cost when moving to them, and 1/2 deployment costs when redeploying other players who have been defeated if the base is under friendly control.

Forward Assault Positions may only be used by the Russians. They can be used at any time. To deploy at these positions costs 2x normal deployment costs, and to move from them costs 3x normal requisition costs.


The Goal

The win conditions for the Russians are as follows:

Control 8 nuclear silos
Control 5 of the 8 cities
Launch a nuclear strike against any US city by controlling 8 nuclear silos for at least 4 days



The win conditions for the United States are as follows:

Control 7 nuclear silos
Control powerplants linked to the above silos
Launch nuclear strikes on San Francisco by holding 7 nuclear silos and associated powerplants for 2 days


Gameplay

Each player in the tournament represents an army of the controlling faction. Teams will discuss strategies for movement on the world map in private forums generously set up for us by Verifex. Every movement on the map requires requisition, which is described in detail above. The goal of the tournament is to capture specific objectives on the map by garrisoning them, or forcibly taking them away from opposing forces.

If a conflict is initiated by one team sending armies to a space occupied by opposing forces, every member of the attacking force present must defeat every member of the defending garrison. In addition, having numerical advantages will change the rules of engagement.

With even numbers, battles must be won in one fight.
For each +1 advantage, a single attacking member may opt to defeat a defending member with a double tap instead of a single tap.
In the case of a defensive numerical advantage, the defending member with the lowest MPR will have the option of retaliation with a double tap against any attacking member. If won, that player will be out of combat until re-deployed.

Members of the winning team choose their respective prizes in order of highest to lowest MPR. The losing team earns a participation prize of a base tattoo of any type as long as supplies last, or 200k.

All circles are cities except for the four that are all connected within the center of the map. The smallest circles are Tier 1 cities (SF and DC)

Slightly thicker circles are Tier 2 (New York, Miami, Detroit, Colorado)

Tournament is live, server errors resolved. First moves will be made tomorrow. I will calculate MPR gains at midnight tonight for the purposes of requisition. Each side starts with 500k Requisition. You may evenly allocate your armies between the starting positions I have defined earlier in the thread. Captains CM me if you have questions.

ok so decay is allowed here, i was flooded with msgs screaming at me about having decay and its in the wiki saying no decay unless other wise stated and now it is :)

Another Question. Tier 2 items are showing up in the store and while I realize I can't use them yet, is it alright if I buy them now and wait to equip them?

I don't know if this will make a difference Newlin, but when people buy items in the tourney store, they don't disappear, so you don't have to worry about someone taking the last RoBF or something.

In what is potentially the most disappointing tournament ending ever, T53 will end tomorrow at noon, with the Soviets taking home a large pile of gear.

Yup, minimal effort for some great prizes. It was apparent from the beginning that no one on the allies wanted to be the leader, so is this really surprising that no one stepped up?

Yeah also doesn't help that like half the ally team stopped playing early on.

I totally dug the team aspect of this tournament -- I'd love to see more along this line.

It was a lot of fun making all the plans on the soviet side. It was also just starting to look really interesting in what was going on. I am sad that the end was rather a flop, but it was still a pretty fun tourney.

I personally did not enjoy the team aspect of it.

I'm not sure how much teamwork went on in the allies team but we had quite a bit of CMs going around, a few times where we discussed things in chat and also regular posting in the defhoboz forums.

Ya, we had a lot of conversation and planning on our end which definitely made it fun. I would personally like to see more tourneys like this one.

The new tourney CM feature is pretty awesome. If we could get a team addition to it, it would be pretty great.

I will not be hosting this sort of tournament again in the near future.

I will work with NS to maybe try and get more support in the tournament system for such tournaments, but without significant automation, I'm afraid this sort of tournament is much to much work with far too little reward and much too high a chance to have major problems.

the allies main problem was lack of communication and no leadership which lead to our downfall. personaly im still confused about the gameplay and what was going on half the time. team tournies arent that great.. =/

I think to save a lot of trouble we should be able to have T-clans, just so we can better organize ourselves within the confines of cb, i didnt mind having to use Def Hoboz Forum but in the future it would be nice to only have to look at the T-clan page.

now that I think about it, why not have T-forum pages linked to T-clan for the intended purpose to talk strategy when and if there is another team based tourney.

I like the team concept as it encourages communication with others in the game and to keep people active in the event even if it is clear they won't be 1st as they have to help the team.

Half of the allies registered weren't exactly IN the tournament, if you get what I mean.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed this tournament, [S] had lots of communication and planning, my only regret is that I didn't have more time to devote. In the future with any kind of team tournament, I think it would be a lot more fair to put everyone in a 'pool' and draw for teams, as it seems [A] kind of got shafted as far as leaders.

There was a draft for teams, both captains participated, I did not create the teams.

Except for DoS, Jir and Zalk everyone got drafted by me and Titan. Titan even got the first pick ^_^
