Find Me The Best Gaming Mouse (in Contests)

Newlin [SeeD] December 25 2010 9:30 PM EST

I am looking to buy myself a nice sturdy mouse that will last me a few years as a Christmas present to myself. My goal is to keep it under $75, no more. Below is the one I was looking at. Whoever suggests the mouse I buy gets 500k, if I buy the one I suggested everyone who posted something helpful gets 50k.

Oooo I would also give serious thought on this one as well.

Fuhgawz December 25 2010 9:39 PM EST

Dudemous I have had 1 of these mice and it has lasted almost a decade now.

If it helps at all it is mostly for FPS and some RPGs. I like that mouse but it has a few too man buttons for me ;)

Not a huge fan of the trackball design.

Really like the Gigabyte one!

Fuhgawz December 25 2010 9:48 PM EST

yea i saw the Gigabyte one after the first one definatly changed my mind on what my purchase would be :)

This one is nice, the others have waay to many buttons, I love this one but FYI razor applications are KNOWN to cause BSODs, I've had one already from it.

Newlin [SeeD] December 25 2010 9:57 PM EST

A bit out of my price range but very nice nonetheless.

Newlin [SeeD] December 25 2010 10:09 PM EST

I don't quite have 24k to dump into a mouse, maybe next Christmas Tal. But it did get a good chuckle out of me :)

Mine was corded but it was the best mouse I have ever had. Once you get used to this type of mouse it is hard to go back to the standard type. I found my response times to be much greater with this type than any other barnone.

Save yourself a lot of hassle and get a Deathadder (by far the most widely used gaming mouse, and my personal favorite): http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Deathadder-Precision-Infrared-Gaming/dp/B002Q4U5DK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293371533&sr=8-1

Maybe just a bit :) I really like this series, might go with the 5 or 7.

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] December 26 2010 12:34 PM EST

I use a Razer Mamba, which is well over your price range, but I love this thing to death. I'd recommend a razor mouse any day of the week.

And to whoever said that the razor software causes BSODs, I've had my mamba for over a year with the software installed, I've never BSODed once. That's more of an issue with the person's PC then it is with the razor software.

I've bought a Logitec MX518 a few years ago, really sturdy mouse which responds good for any purpose whether it is a MMO, CB, RPG, FPS or PhotoShop. :)

It's cost were only €50,- or something around it, it's been lasting for a few years now without any problems of lame left mouse buttons or anything.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 26 2010 2:46 PM EST

The Mamba and MX518 are also great choices.

AdminShade December 26 2010 2:50 PM EST

I once needed to decide for a new mouse and was doubting between a Razer and one of the Logitec MX series mice.

I then knew that G_Beee is/was working in the optical industries and he explained some things about lasers for mice to me, I then picked my choice. Perhaps you could ask him for his opinion? :)

AdminG Beee December 26 2010 6:03 PM EST

See my 2nd post on Shade's thread from 5 years ago. It's still pretty much the case: http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=001bMe
I'm no longer working with optical mice so can't tell you what sensors are in what bundles nowadays, but for sure we're still all being suckered into buying whatever the marketing guys tells us are the best :)

On a related note I found this old thread whilst looking for the one Shade made. Made me smile :) http://www.carnageblender.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=002OTB

Alright, so the two I am looking at are the Gigabyte Ghost:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826146014

And the Cyborg R.A.T. 7:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826102062&Tpk=cyborg%20rat%207

Looking at the frame rate per second the Gigabyte has 12k but I cannot find a number anywhere for the latter.

Now do the maximum acceleration and maximum speed have a huge impact? Just for comparison the first has a 30g max acceleration and ~3.7m/sec max speed whilst the Cyborg has a 50g acceleration and a 6m/sec speed.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 26 2010 8:58 PM EST

In reality, those settings won't have any impact on your performance in WoW or CoD (from what I've seen, anyway). The only games where those sort of details really matter are high-speed shooters (ala Quake or Unreal).

Newlin [SeeD] December 29 2010 9:12 PM EST

I ordered a Cyborg R.A.T. 7 the other day so while Demi didn't specify this exact mouse, the prize goes to him for suggesting the lesser version of this mouse. Thanks everyone!

Newlin [SeeD] December 29 2010 9:14 PM EST

Just realized Pit's post was another in the Cyborg R.A.T. series so I am sending him 250k as well.

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] December 29 2010 10:06 PM EST

Watch this review.

He ultimately claims that the cheap quality of the parts makes the mouse not really worth the money. He also does a review of the Mamba Razer, which seems to be a much better mouse, despite its price.

Newlin [SeeD] December 29 2010 10:12 PM EST

I'd watch it but my internet is too slow to handle these advanced things like youtube :P

If I don't end up liking it I will send it back, but I don't think that will be the case. I'm not a huge fan of razers anywho.

Demigod December 29 2010 10:40 PM EST

Sweet. I showed you the model 3 since I figured the high-end R.A.T.s were out of your price range.

Let me know what you think of it. Most all of the reviews I've seen love them.
