Hxbow Gets a Facelift (in Changelog)

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] March 28 2012 12:56 PM EDT

Sorry this is a bit late everyone. All of your old and rusty Hxbows have gotten a shiny new upgrade.

They are now base 5 damage along with having the vorpal ability.

Enjoy!

AdminTal Destra [Forge Of Norn] March 28 2012 1:22 PM EDT

Sweet full vorpal tank

Zenai March 28 2012 1:35 PM EDT

This is gonna be fun!

QBJohnnywas March 28 2012 1:39 PM EDT

Not bad, does similar and a bit above damage as a SoD's main hit. Miss the splash damage of the sling though. But having another decent damage ranged without having to train archery can only be a good thing.

QBJohnnywas March 28 2012 1:40 PM EDT

Oh and btw NS and co thanks for a changelog. Always welcome!

QBRanger March 28 2012 1:46 PM EDT

Except in some super specialized cases, how would this be superior to a SoD, which also does not need a skill to use properly?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 28 2012 1:52 PM EDT

The to hit is worse, but that vorpal ability is pretty nifty, and specialization is what CB is all about.

QBRanger March 28 2012 2:07 PM EDT

Yes,

But please answer my initial question.

When would the Hxbow be better than a SoD?

Possibly vs a heavy tank without a tattoo. And those are as rare as the dodo.

stabilo March 28 2012 3:15 PM EDT

Nice change! Keep up the good work, I'm sure we'll soon find another little change on some other item that we can work out!

.. in the end "it's all about the changes and adapting to them" I heard from quite some players ;)

Soon I'll try the new hxbow and post some comparisons on elb/hxbow/sod.

Thanks for the first change in a long time!!!!!!!!!

Against teams with high AC minions that don't also use PL?

Against teams with high AC minions that use PL but the user doesn't feel the same way as you and would prefer vorpal over splash.

I personally do not see why people would want to PL to their high AC minion. I would think you would want to PL away from it to keep it alive even longer and continue taking less damage.

I'm really only focusing on PL because that seems to be your whole defense that splash > vorpal.

I will say that typically following some trial run after a change tweaks are usually made. Maybe a damage boost or increased vorpal will be required to make it worth using if it is not as is. Possibly having it target highest AC just to make things interest. We'll have to see.

Now I will say, the idea of a ranged weapon that attacks the back minion was nice too. Maybe in the future? The Compound Bow could use a boost. There was a time it was actually the most popular bow in CB.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] March 28 2012 3:24 PM EDT

When would the Hxbow be better than a SoD?

Me

QBRanger March 28 2012 3:28 PM EDT

Titan

The SoD works better vs you actually.

Zenai March 28 2012 3:45 PM EDT

I agree with Josh in that having it target highest AC Minion would solidify the niche this ranged weapon would fill. Again I think that just having an item upgraded is totally awesome and I want to thank NS and everyone who worked on this project!

QBPit Spawn [Abyssal Specters] March 28 2012 4:00 PM EDT

apparently nat doesn't check out the changelog forum, understandable though.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] March 28 2012 4:11 PM EDT

The SoD works better vs you actually.

Pics or I don't believe you.

Guardian March 28 2012 4:18 PM EDT

i edited wiki for it correcting damage and add strategy coments,
maybe someone could add even more info.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] March 28 2012 4:24 PM EDT

:)

QBRanger March 28 2012 4:25 PM EDT

Pics or I don't believe you.

Would love to do that but do not wish to spend another 500k on a base SoD.

QBRanger March 28 2012 4:26 PM EDT

But then again,

If it is better vs your character Titan, it certain would be worse vs 10 others.

1 vs 10? No contest.

Sort of like the ages old AG vs NSC debate. The AG may help vs a couple characters, but overall, overwhelmingly, the NSC is better for overall play.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] March 28 2012 4:58 PM EDT

I agree completely, it's a very niche weapon. It might be good for AA when I get a higher RoS; but he'd probably still beat me anyway.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 28 2012 5:23 PM EDT

There are three HXbows in the auctions, but only one is 5x... hmm

BestNUB March 28 2012 5:25 PM EDT

Defective Hxbows! :O

Xenogard [Chaotic Serenity] March 28 2012 5:52 PM EDT

Now I wish I still had my collection of hxbows I used to have >_>

I had like 4 of those things.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] March 28 2012 6:25 PM EDT

Sweet!

Guess I'll start playin again :D

AdminQBVerifex [Serenity In Chaos] March 28 2012 6:37 PM EDT

Don't worry about HXBows in auctions, they show base 4, they are actually 5, the auction system.. for some reason, stores the name in a different place then the original table. But don't worry it is the correct base. :)

AdminNightStrike March 29 2012 12:02 AM EDT

I forgot to run the weapons rescale that gives you cash back because of the change. So, I just ran it.

AdminNightStrike March 29 2012 10:23 PM EDT

Slightly increased the base to-hit of the hxbow so that it is no longer the same as the SOD.

Quyen March 30 2012 4:14 AM EDT

About the rescale of the weapon that gives back money, why does it affect tourney characters?

AdminNightStrike March 30 2012 10:19 AM EDT

It affects all characters that are holding on to one.

Godpanda March 31 2012 6:18 PM EDT

Very nice change! =D Thanks for all the work, NS!
