T37: Ready, Set, DODGEBALL! (in Contests)

T37 will be a team tournament, obviously based around the game of dodgeball.

Teams

You may register your team at any time from now until the tournament begins.
Teams must have a minimum of four people, a maximum of five.
Please post teams in the following format:

There is no limit to how many teams may register.


Rules:
No decay.
No tattoos.
All rules found here are in effect.



How it works:
At 5PM every day, the lowest three MPR participants will be dropped out of the tournament, I will retire and rename the characters to reflect this. When only two teams remain, OR, every remaining team is represented by only one member, there will be a sudden death finale.

If only two teams remain, the team with the highest average MPR will win, unless the opposing teams highest MPR member can defeat all of the members of the other team.


Example: Team 1 and Team 2 are the only remaining team, each with 3 members remaining. Team 1 has an average MPR of 100,000. Team 2 has an average of 120,000. If Team 1's highest MPR member can defeat all of Team 2's members in ONE FIGHT each, Team 1 wins. If not, Team 2 wins.


If there are three or more teams remaining, all of which are represented by only one member, the two players with the highest win:total battles ratios will advance and normal sudden death rules will apply.

This tournament will start on the 28th, at noon. The end date is variable, depending on how many people participate.



Prizes:

2m per teammate on the winning team.
500k per teamate on any team that lasts until the second to last day.



The tournament ends on the seventh at 10PM
There are 3 rounds of eliminations left:

Saturday at 5PM (the 4th) (3 eliminations)
Sunday at 5 PM (the 5th) (3 eliminations)
Monday at 5PM (the 6th) (2 elimination)

The final day will decide the winner, no eliminations.


To prove your highest MPR team member can beat every member of the remaining team, you must fight them all after 5PM, and defeat them all in one fight. Post or chatmail me if you have done this so I may check as soon as possible.

Tomorrow at 5PM when the lower average MPR team has the ability to try and defeat the higher MPR team, whoever is attacking will have only one attempt to defeat each member of the opposing team. Should any of the attacks fail, the tournament will be decided. Stalemates and draws count as losses for the attacker.

is there a BA cap?

The BA cap will be contingent on the duration of the tournament, 400 BA per day, basically.

20 minute cooldown on the item itself, not the character. So hypothetically I could buy all the weapons under 100 cbd in the store, and camp them all day and prevent any new tournament character from obtaining one ... for as long as I wanted...

What happened to the 400 BA per day rule? If this is not enforced... then whoever makes their characters at exactly 12 PM wins the MPR race...

I think a DQ would occur at the time of completion... For example, spend 600 BA /day for 5 days, and you're fine as long as it lasts until day 8, should it end day 7, you've taken and accepted the risk

Please let me know if some names need adjusting, also some people haven't yet put a team name in front of their name, and others have deviating names. Please make suggestions for me to fix this.

Thanks for adjusting my name, I didn't taught of placing my time when I created it and couldn't change it myself after.

I am very intrigued about the 400 ba per day also, At first I was under the impression that tourny character would simply not be able to get more then 400 per day but seems I will have to pace myself, I certainly don't want to get dq.

To clarify, you can use as much BA per day as you want, 400 BA per day is just how I calculate the total BA cap.

So once I reach my 400 BA used per day it will automatically stop me from using more?

There is no per-day BA cap, only a total BA cap for the entire tournament.

Still getting the refresh bug for having a char in 6/20... woke up after 6 hours of sleep, should have had 160 but woke up to 125... Love how this always happens in mpr based tournies.

Very strange as I CM'd Slayer about this strategy before the T started.

He instructed me that it would not matter as AVERAGE MPR would be used.

Now I find things have changed or our tourney admin misled me.

we are picking one teammate with the best chances of winning and intentionally losing to him to boost his xp at the cost of our own.

it was also done at the start of the tourney by another team.

here is my pm to him, i don't think there was any room for misunderstanding in the way i asked or that he answered me at least.

i too thought it was average mpr, until i realized that i couldn't check the mpr on mikel today and asked earlier.

Slayer saves the mpr's as he eliminates people.

While is a change from the CM I received and therefore makes the T completely bogus.

there is no advantage to doing that from day 1. It means that you have 1 person that is really growing and the "feeders" will not be giving much XP very quickly.

Which is a direct contraindication to what he CMd me.

Now that things have changed, Team Carnage is at a huge disadvantage on the matter.

If we would have known how it was really going to be, we would have used this strategy from the beginning. Or a variation thereof.

After re-reading my original response to Ranger, it does seem to conflict with what I've told dudemus, so I will ask that you not spend any BA intentionally losing to your teammates.

Even when it could be used it ain't a fair strategy nor a particularly hard one. it really defeats the purpose of having so many people competing in the tournament cause they won't actually participate for a long time in it (relatively). i am just glad that those teams who were doing it aren't fully winning anyway.

Well, It was my idea so if you want to be mad at anyone blame me ^^. I was talking with dude when I was at work, and thought that at this point in the tournament and with how the rules were setup that this would be our best chance to win. I told dude to CM slayer about it to make sure we weren't breaking any rules, and we decided to go with Zang because he also had enough money to buy all his minions, so all together our best bet.

I didn't get a chance to use this because I was tied up at work (The owner of the company's wife is having a baby within the week (like could pop at any time) so he's been training me really extensively to run things while he's away)

Anyways, looks like a failure in communication. Don't really know what to say, I was told it was fair, and I expected EVERY team to be doing it at this point. -Jir

imho fighting to lose against another team mate is considered cheating. I would never do such thing unless it would be approved by the tourney master, and since it is not I hope that's a good thing.

I just also hope that this doesn't influence the tourney in the people's favor who have done it.

I didn't think to do it earlier because I was under the same assumption, which I guess is a breakdown in communications :S. Once I realized that that was in fact not the case, ... well here we are!

the first time that any type of tournament is ran, it is a learning experience. we solidify the rules through problems such as this.

as stated before, i had seen one team do it earlier in the tournament and had watched for action. none came so when my teammate brought up the idea i said we should ask slayer first.

the thing that upsets me is that i did just what i was supposed to and because of that lost mpr retraining 3 times now, lost growth during the time i was attacking my teammate and feel that some are insinuating that we cheated.

if we were to pull out a win now, it would likely be questioned and that is also frustrating. i am done with my ba and done with this tournament. g'luck to all that are left!

wow so because it won't reach a sudden death you change the rules with no warning and that's it...wow way to manipulate the way the tournament runs without telling anybody.

and to anybody saying my way of going about it is not the best, how would you feel if you followed all the rules and the rules were changed last minute to manipulate the results to obtain a desired outcome.

Sounds like the CB equivelent of rigging a tournament

while the tournament may have been rigged, it was done to likely bring it to a conclusion in a certain timeframe and not to benefit a certain player.

tournaments also are not always fair. i was told that a certain action was a valid strategy, lost some xp due to training to use that strategy, wasted a couple hundred ba doing said strategy and then was later told we couldn't do that. i was then told i would get some xp back, ba back, cash back or all of those. that never happened either.

i do feel that slayer is learning from the mistakes and that overall tournaments are getting fairer. usually due to our input and our problems.

as for what needs to be worked on from this tournament:

please respond to all pm's in the tournament thread along with the original cm. (this would likely have avoided the problem i had)

in elimination tournaments, please post the eliminations before hand and stick to it or give at least 4 hour notice if they will change.

as tournament players, we need to be better about posting questions in the tournament thread rather than using cm's. had i done that, then the issue might have been resolved before it cost me and my team. (even when we think we have an idea or strategy for winning that no one else has thought of.)

Fatility, granted we weren't expecting you to be retired, if you reread the first part of the rules:

"At 5PM every day, the lowest three MPR participants will be dropped out of the tournament, I will retire and rename the characters to reflect this. When only two teams remain, OR, every remaining team is represented by only one member, there will be a sudden death finale."

That kind of reflects what happened. I KNOW he said otherwise, but based on the players remaining at the time of removal, and the above paragraph, well... I dunno.

This sounds more like an error in communication, which happens sometimes. *shrug*

It was posted for at least 2 days how the eliminations were going to progress the next 3 days.

They were 3, then 2 then 1 person eliminated.

In fact, I had a few CM's with Fatality about him getting his MPR up. But he pointed out, as late as 1030 this morning, that only 2 were scheduled to be eliminated.

It is impossible for us to be on all day. In fact, absences of 8-10 hours are not unusual.

For the rules to change that same day, in such an important aspect of the game is something that should not happen.

That stated... This is the first of this type of tourney and mistakes happen.

Nothing can be changed, not that his character was retired. I hope we all learned from this and it does not happen again.

I agree with you ranger on the whole thing, I was just trying to offer a possible explanation, and the failure in communication was exactly what you said, the fact that he posted 3/2/1 as I also expected only 2 to be retired. Live and learn I guess, other than the two hiccups I enjoyed this tournament, just wish you didn't own me so hard >_<

i probably would have done better if it had started next week during the school HOLIDAYS :/ but either way i am happy with this tournament despite the numerous mistakes throughout. GOOD WORK SLAYER!

So what is to prevent the lower MPR team from attacking 1 from the higher, beating that character, then immediately retraining to beat the other from the higher MPR team?

Seems to me that gives a HUGE advantage to the lower MPR team, which to me seems contrary to who things should work.

Ranger we've been communicating via cm, but just to put it in the open, as the lower MPR team, yes this could happen as we've discussed, but I think no one will be happy if this happens. As it stands now, In my eyes, Elite will buy his minions, we will be the lower mpr team by about 8 average points. From here Elite will either beat you both or he wont. I know we could essentially take advantage of this unless slayer speaks up, but lets just have a 'good ending'.

At the end of the day, he either beats you guys both cleanly, or he doesn't. No tricks, surprises, gray areas. The end.

Or you guys lower your mpr and take advantage, but if you can't beat us both anyways, then it's wasted effort.

Lets just play ignorant to the flaws in the rules for now.

Tomorrow at 5PM when the lower average MPR team has the ability to try and defeat the higher MPR team, whoever is attacking will have only one attempt to defeat each member of the opposing team. Should any of the attacks fail, the tournament will be decided. Stalemates and draws count as losses for the attacker.

So,

We will have 24 hours to "prepare" after the final contestants are decided?

At 5pm tomorrow the final battle starts?

Today the final eliminations will take place, tomorrow at 5PM I will determine which team is attacking and which team is defending, and after I post that result, you may attack at any time.

if this type of tournament is ran again and if it is corrected to be average mpr for the team, i would suggest dropping the lowest mpr from the average in order to avoid someone joining a team just to sabotage them by having a very low mpr.

if it is done as this one was and not average mpr, then ignore this comment.

It should always be done as per currently playing (i.e. not DQ'd) player average mpr or score imo

Thank you very much for a very entertaining tourney.

While we're discussing future limitations on tourneys of this nature, I have another proposal... When disqualifications happen in segments, make the BA cap per segment, so that the BA limit actually means something :P Not to take anything away from Team Carnage, as they certainly did earn their victory, but what happened here was often a case of "he who clicks most"... Many players were on a pace to hit the 4200 limit, but since they couldn't spend over 1k battles the first couple days, they got knocked out too early to tell where they could've/would've ended up.

Basically, daily eliminations should equal a daily BA limit ^_^

If I had the ability to set a daily BA cap I would, but as it is that is just something that takes too much time to monitor and is too easy to accidentally break the rules on.
