AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 26 2009 2:50 PM EST

Great, an anti-me tourney :). No one will beat the Titan! :)

I'll give it a shot even though i sucked in the last tourney, but this time i will have more time.

35 mil starting exp. That's 2.9xx mil starting levels. O.0

lel December 26 2009 5:57 PM EST

and 1000% bonus, gonna be fun :)

Miandrital December 26 2009 7:43 PM EST

Auctions okay?

lel December 27 2009 8:00 AM EST

Never played in a tournament with starting exp before so here's a question. Can I spread out the starting exp on different minions or is it concentrated on 1 minion?

Rawr December 27 2009 8:01 AM EST

^

last time it was on the first minion you hire

lel December 27 2009 8:04 AM EST

alright thanks

Only for your first minion. :)

Joel December 27 2009 10:16 AM EST

*whew* Spent most of the morning thinking of strategy for this target! I'll be fighting in this tourney as well!

DoS [Battle Royale] December 27 2009 1:31 PM EST

Too soon :\, makes it less fun for me if I decide to do it.

I agree i wish we had a few more days notice

Joel December 27 2009 1:33 PM EST

A few more nights of good sleep would have been nice, heheh.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 27 2009 1:34 PM EST

I should have suggested Slayer keep the No whining rule

Joel December 27 2009 1:48 PM EST

Are you whining about us whining, novice? rofl

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 27 2009 3:42 PM EST

Yes

I'd like to see a few more people in on a tournament where the part of the prize sells to the store for 20m CB.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 27 2009 3:48 PM EST

i would and have suggested making the participation prize participation based rather than performance based...that should be a good start!

TheHatchetman December 27 2009 3:50 PM EST

If you're not performing, you're not truly p[articipating ~_^

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] December 27 2009 3:52 PM EST

Yeah. sucks there's 20+ million to the first place but then second place gets nothing. I liked the last tourney prize awards :), where one - five got a pretty decent prize.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 27 2009 4:11 PM EST

AdminShade December 27 2009 4:29 PM EST

I'll also give it a try. I was close last tourney :)

AdminTal Destra [G6] December 27 2009 4:45 PM EST

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] December 27 2009 6:59 PM EST

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] December 27 2009 11:16 PM EST

GO WINNING!

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] December 27 2009 11:27 PM EST

If you're not performing, you're not truly p[articipating ~_^

it is much more fun to have both more performers and participants though and if we can encourage more to participate then over time they will become better. if we cannot get them to try though then they will never move up to the next level.

we have about two hundred active players and in the last tournament a total of ten prizes were handed out including six for participation. there was a few more though that burned at least 50 percent of the top ba and i believe that is a better benchmark for participation.

if it were truly a participation bonus i believe it would also encourage people to not retire their characters once they are out of the running. ; )

stats for AS

QBJohnnywas December 28 2009 8:22 AM EST

The target is pretty tough. My mageseeker is the second biggest in the game (over 200 mill NW), with 7 mill strength behind it and 9 mill HP. I almost lose. Nice big GA.

A decent DM might do the trick in making that right, but then the other stats will be compromised.

Alatar Gloves does mean AMF might be more useful...

QBRanger December 28 2009 2:34 PM EST

By the statement "no tats", this includes lesser tattoos as well.

Lord Bob December 28 2009 3:31 PM EST

By the statement "no tats", this includes lesser tattoos as well.

Right, and I would like to come out now and confess that I used a lesser tattoo for a while on my tourney fighter. I'm kind of rusty on the whole tournament thing, and the rules kind of slipped my mind. I was politely notified by another player that I was in violation of the rules, so I immediately sold it back to the store where I got it.

Disqualify me as you will, but I'd like to play around with a low-level strat for a while, so if it's possible just rename the team to indicate disqualification so I can use it as a test team until the tourney ends. I'll still use it, I just won't be competing with it (and I wouldn't have won anyway).

Sickone December 28 2009 3:55 PM EST

The target is pretty tough. My mageseeker is the second biggest in the game (over 200 mill NW), with 7 mill strength behind it and 9 mill HP. I almost lose. Nice big GA.

On the other hand, my ELB archer (which has a huge DM) makes pretty short work of it in the minimum possible time (5 rounds for 5 minions).
DM+SoD will probably also do the trick quite nicely (probably even better), I assume.

Zenai December 28 2009 3:58 PM EST

Just tested out the Target with my regular char FGoD. I have the same results as sickone, I also happen to have a pretty decent DM. Hope the Info helps you T-Heads bouncing off this Titan :-)

QBRanger December 28 2009 4:00 PM EST

Then again, both ELB users are using a TOA with its bonus to PTH, str and (not needed) dexterity.

This allows one to put a lot more xp into DM and HP.

T characters will not have that luxury.

QBJohnnywas December 28 2009 4:03 PM EST

That was my thoughts Ranger, on the surface, an archer strat seems ideal, but that does need a lot of xp and NW to compensate without a ToA.

QBRanger December 28 2009 4:07 PM EST

I do have a feeling that the winner will be the person who manages to get their hands on a HoC.

QBJohnnywas December 28 2009 4:16 PM EST

Heh.

lel December 29 2009 7:17 AM EST

I have an interesting idea that might work. I'll just say it involves heavy AC and DM.

TheHatchetman December 29 2009 8:45 PM EST

Just letting people know that they could start now and still stand just about the same chance of winning as those already in it... Plenty of time, a huge bonus, a big chunk to start with, and the path has been laid already, let's get some more people in this! ^_^

TheHatchetman December 30 2009 1:57 PM EST

Only a few more days to get in on the action before catching up gets hard! =-O

Admiralkiller December 30 2009 2:08 PM EST

I am going to have to agree with Hatch...I had a slow start and have slept a lot since it is holidays. I am doing well and i sorta suck.

A good attempt could be in the ranks within a week.

AdminShade January 4 2010 5:11 PM EST

With your tournament character? :p

AdminNightStrike January 4 2010 5:11 PM EST

Also, participation based on BA spent as opposed to MPR isn't a half-bad idea.

Also, I'll offer free unretiring for those with 5 parties who don't want to retire one to enter. Retire one, enter, and I'll unretire for free at the end of the tournament.

AdminShade January 4 2010 5:15 PM EST

Good idea, I think all admins should offer this :)

Miandrital January 9 2010 5:19 PM EST

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 17 2010 11:07 AM EST

Miandrital January 17 2010 1:05 PM EST

Thats what we said last time though, and 4 people pulled it off :)

lel January 17 2010 1:05 PM EST

last time the bonus is 10x of what it is now :)

QBRanger January 17 2010 1:06 PM EST

Thats what we said last time though, and 4 people pulled it off :)

Most likely due to novice increasing the bonus for the last part of the tourney.

I think Hatch will be able to beat it in 5-7 days at the rate he is beating characters up.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 17 2010 1:54 PM EST

Things would have been perfect last time if I hadn't caved and raised the bonus...

TheHatchetman January 17 2010 2:03 PM EST

Things would have been perfect last time if I hadn't caved and raised the bonus...

at least one or two of them woulda won. If i recall correctly, the bonus was doubled with like 4-5 days left, and the first winner got it the day after the bonus was doubled. If one person could've done it in the time given, then everybody could have. Granted, all 5 prizes wouldn't have been given out last tourney, but hey, "go big or go home", right?

My money is on Hatch!

My actual money is too, but I'm still seeing you as slightly ahead of me :P We've been neck and neck the whole way through though you got a slightly better start on things. It's definitely an interesting run to say the least ^_^

I mean, technically, I did it. I just, you know, had some help :P

Godpanda January 19 2010 7:20 AM EST

*So no one gets in a huff*

I used my real character to damage Big Prize first, then won with my Tourney character. Not actually trying to win, just thought it'd be fun to see if it worked XD

If you would have waited longer for responses I am sure someone would have gone crazy over it! :P lol

AdminShade January 20 2010 11:51 AM EST

In other words, you start out with 840k MPR so if you grow half as fast, you'll still be able to grab this ;)

QBRanger January 20 2010 11:53 AM EST

The current top MRI is 2M. Starting with 840k is almost there.

Winner!

We'll use a BA usage participation prize in this tourney, so you can probably still get enough BA in to get a prize if you aren't already there! Just need at least 65% of the BA that the top MPR character has used. (Participation prize was also doubled, see wiki)

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 January 21 2010 12:10 PM EST

If anyone else can defeat the character by 12:00 Noon tomorrow, they will earn 1m!

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] January 21 2010 12:12 PM EST

woot!

QBRanger January 21 2010 12:20 PM EST

I put all my rares into auctions.

Marlfox [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 21 2010 12:57 PM EST

Great job, Ranger!

Sickone January 21 2010 1:03 PM EST

I see your auctions have a 2 day duration...
... I wonder what will happen to them when the tournament is over in 1 day :)

That being said, I doubt I have any chance of beating the target in the next 24h with the strategy I am using now (which, to be honest, was tailored to beat other tournament members, and it did that very good, hehe)... so I'll be throwing my rare gear into auctions very soon too.
Just waiting for an answer first about what happens to an auction when the character issuing it force-retires with the tournament, just so I know if I can select a long duration to give everybody a fair chance, or if I have to adjust duration down to under 23h.

QBRanger January 21 2010 1:06 PM EST

The items stay in auctions.

AdminShade January 21 2010 1:09 PM EST

When placing items in auction with your Tournament character, the items will stay in auctions for their duration, even if the character is retired.

The same applies to rental items and loaned items when we ban a cheater (most of the times)

AdminShade January 21 2010 1:28 PM EST

Congrats ranger, I don't have the DM yet to beat the target fast enough.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 21 2010 1:33 PM EST

really well done!

QBRanger January 21 2010 1:34 PM EST

Yes,

The biggest problem I saw looking at BP was the huge GA and AS.

The only way to get such a huge DM to dispel them was to use my first minion for most of the DM.

Once I was able to obtain a MgS in auctions as well as an EH, and hire my first minion, the rest was just waiting to get enough levels to have strength to use an ELB.

I doubt using only DD, it would be possible to beat BP even in 6 weeks of playing.

DoS [Battle Royale] January 21 2010 1:45 PM EST

Very well done Ranger, way to go man!! :D

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 January 21 2010 1:48 PM EST

The tournament will end on the 24th, maybe we will test the new features after noon tomorrow.

AdminShade January 21 2010 1:49 PM EST

The tournament will end on the 24th,

Shouldn't we have it end on the 22nd then?

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 January 21 2010 1:50 PM EST

Nope.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] January 21 2010 2:09 PM EST

Why did you auctions your rares? Why not DE all of your items and buy as many rares as possible?

TheHatchetman January 21 2010 2:15 PM EST

Congrats man! I hope I helped keep it interesting ^_^

QBRanger January 21 2010 2:20 PM EST

Why did you auctions your rares? Why not DE all of your items and buy as many rares as possible?

To get them back into the game, as a T character I took them out.

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] January 21 2010 2:21 PM EST

Nothing wrong with that.

TheHatchetman January 21 2010 2:30 PM EST

<3 for rarer "rares" :D

AdminShade January 21 2010 3:59 PM EST

To get them back into the game, as a T character I took them out.

(one of the) last Tournament(s) in which this is possible / applicable though :)

AdminTitan [The Sky Forge] January 21 2010 6:40 PM EST

I know, I agree Shade, it's sad.

QBRanger January 21 2010 7:03 PM EST

Why is it sad?

The new T store will enable the admins to make better and fairer tourneys.

TheHatchetman January 21 2010 7:11 PM EST

but it will no longer be able to take from the flood of "rares"

QBRanger January 22 2010 4:41 PM EST

Game over?

Miandrital January 22 2010 4:44 PM EST

Speaking of which...we might have a problem in a couple days since Sickone is auctioning stuff for 5 days+, and the tourney is gonna retire his character in 2 days.

QBRanger January 22 2010 4:47 PM EST

Even if a character is retired, unless his items are reset, the items in auctions are just fine.

TrueDevil [AAA] January 22 2010 7:39 PM EST

I've been reading the rules about tournaments, I thought that tourny characters can only auction base item ? but it seems like there's few pretty high nw items being auctioned by tourny character.

AdminShade January 22 2010 8:46 PM EST

I agree Shade, it's sad.

Do you agree with me? I think not, I don't really mind this fix.

lel January 22 2010 8:48 PM EST

I don't really like it, a great source of profit just disappeared.

AdminShade January 22 2010 8:50 PM EST

an injustice source of profit will disappear. And yes, I've also profited from this from time to time but entering a tournament should profit you a little bit instead now. :)

In other words: work for yo' money!

QBRanger January 22 2010 9:23 PM EST

I also have profited from tournaments.

And I think this T store is an incredible addition.

Sickone January 24 2010 8:43 PM EST

So the participation prize is 100k, or the 200k mentioned as being applied retroactively in the T49 thread ?

Admin{CB1}Slayer333 January 24 2010 8:44 PM EST

200k
