Since an item just came back to me, I'll lend it to you now. You just received a familiar that should give a boost for the next few days. Also, strap a bow on your melee fighter. He'll automatically switch between the bow and the other weapon between ranged and melee rounds.

Hope you stick around. This game does require a little bit more strategy and thinking than good old Legacy, but I'm sure you'll manage. :)
