Basic Information and Statistics

  • Abbreviation: SoC
  • Base AC: 0
  • Power weight: 0.2
  • Primary Effect: For each enhancement (+) the SoC absorbs an average of 0.5% of physical damage received.
  • Secondary Effect: The absorbed damage can be returned for triple the damage on the next hit if you use a Hammer Class Weapon or Unarmed Combat. (See Strategy and Comments)
  • No penalties to Direct Damage Spells cast by the wearer.
  • No penalties to Enchant Offense Spells or to Enchant Defense Spells cast by the wearer.
  • No penalty to DX and Skills with 1-handed melee weapons.
  • Negative 12% to DX and Skills with 2-handed melee weapon.
  • Negative 5 to Unarmed Combat (UC).
  • The Shield itself does not do the displayed damage, instead it is added to the next hit of the weapon that triggered the flash.
  • Average past auction price paid for this item: [1]

Forging Information

  • Durability: [120, 25] (Uses 29 BA / Cycle) 0.94 efficiency
  • After testing, this ^^ seems to be the sweet spot. Closest alternative was [125*, 25] (31 BA) .883 efficiency

Forging

Strategy and Comments

  • The second effect of this shield can only be used when using Hammer Class Weapons, like the Morgul-Hammer, Mace of Disruption, low-end hammers or Unarmed Combat.
  • Does not grant AC like the Mithril Shield does.
  • The absorption is the first damage reduction applied.
  • Damage taken but absorbed through PL will still charge up the shield.
  • The damage returned is added into the weapon attack so such modifiers as BL or VA also work with the returned damage.
  • Since the shield has zero penalties for the magic Spells, it is the perfect shield to stick on an Enchanter or Mage
  • The effects of the shield can be linked with the Amulet of Junction

Fun Facts

  • Original introduction was in June 2008: [2]
  • The amount of damage returned is doubled. [3]
  • It costs about 30M to get it to +32.
